Korean Style Makeup Tutorial

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share with you an easy-to-follow makeup tutorial for Korean style makeup that is a bit edgy but basic enough to wear on an ordinary day.


Everyday Korean street makeup is frequently "no makeup makeup" style so I wanted to kick it up a notch, incorporating glitter (very common and well-loved in Korea) and silvery-gunmetal eyeshadow to frame the eyes while staying true to the basic shapes for color makeup application. For those interested in Kpop, this look is similar to what you'd see on Korean singing competitions or what girls would wear for special occasions like a night out with friends.

Here you can see the eyeshadow application is different from your typical Western smokey eye because of its distinct almond shape, following a nearly parallel curve to the lash line. The corners of the shadow are also extended to widen the eyes in a subtle way. Lips are given the typical Korean "gradient lip" treatment which gives an innocent, stained lip effect.


The key to the rest of the look is creating a clean and youthful face. Our base is very natural, brightened by bb cream and a liquid highlighter. Brows are kept full and straight and blush is subtly applied to the apples of cheeks.


I had to add in this obligatory "victory" pose which is so quintessentially Korean!

    I love this look! I actually have all of the products you mentioned (for once) and I'm excited to try this out at work tomorrow!

    It's always been a bit difficult to determine what can work as a safe smokey eye for work. I've never thought of using Gunmetal over my entire lid as I've always only used it to set my eyeliner.

      Gunmetal is one of my favorite everyday colors! You can easily blend it just slightly above eyeliner for a very simple, work-appropriate look and I definitely consider it a "neutral" shade. It's really great for those who have hooded lids and small creases too! :)

    Hello, Jen! I am really in love with all your looks! They are great! You as well very nice person. I watched lots of your videos, and noticed one thing. Long years ago your eyes looked a bit differently like real monolids, but now they look different. Have you done anything with your eyes like surgery. I really want to change my eyes as well.     I tried this today! I have slightly hooded eyes. I am darker than you, with my summer tan, so I had to leave out the blush because it would have started to look like too much makeup. Great job, great tutorial! I took a pic if you'd like to see. :-)

      I'm inspired by everything, but I do love seeing Kpop music videos and the creativity in how they apply makeup since it's quite different from makeup trends here in the US. I'm also very inspired by animals, nature, and illustration. :)

    Hi Jen, I noticed your lip freckle is gone. One popped up on my lip recently (sun damage? I don't tan though). Did you do anything or it just went away?

      It went away naturally, but it appeared randomly while I was in high school one day, so I think the skin just faded over several years.

    Thnx for all your videos. I have learned so much!!! Have found that using 'Asian' makeup breaks you out less or more? I have really sensitive skin and was wondering what works best for you. I use bare minerals because it doesn't irritate my skin. Other brands make my skin feel like its been burned and it makes it look that way too. I started using the brand 'Simple' for my night moisturizer and it has worked wonders.

      Honestly, no matter where makeup comes from, what things react are different from product to product. It seems that you happen to have an allergy with an ingredient frequently used in makeup products, so the best thing for you is to figure out what that may be (you can patch test behind your ear and look out for key allergens like talc or bismuth oxychloride) and look for products without it. :)
