MAC Turquatic Inspired Summer Eyes
10:38 PMI know that a lot of us who watch Youtube makeup videos and read beauty blogs are fans of really extreme makeup but are hesitant to wear it out in public. I personally love bright colors but I usually default to my neutrals for work days.
Still, I think it's quite beneficial to conjure up a nice Pantone-bright look every now and then. If you can make bright shadows flattering for your eye shape, you can pretty much do any less-bright look and pull it off easily. It's all about the right shape and blending, blending, blending! ;)
Products mentioned:
Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ in 40
Urban Decay Primer Potion
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
Sugarpill Cosmetics eyeshadow in Buttercupcake
Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette (Deep End, Evidence)
Sugarpill Cosmetics eyeshadow in Midori
NYX Slide On Eyeliner Pencil in Esmeralda
Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner in Siren
Eyeko Graffiti Eyeliner Pen in Black
NYX Slide On Eyeliner Pencil in Sunrise Blue
Shu Uemura Lash curler
FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen Waterproof Mascara
Lioele false eyelashes in #12
Kiss lash adhesive
Lioele Artist Auto Eyebrow Pencil in Grey Black
Panasonic Heated Eyelash Curler (similar here and here)
Rock & Republic Blush in Spank (similar to Mac Well Dressed or perhaps NYX Angel)
MAC Blot Powder in Medium Dark
Urban Decay Lipstick in Naked
For this look I was inspired by the amazing packaging from the MAC Turquatic perfume collection. Check out these promotional images. Gorrrrrrgeous, right?
So for my particular almond-shaped eyes, since they aren't super huge and I don't have a defined crease or eye socket, I didn't want to bring the color super high up on my lid. When I do that I tend to look a bit like I got punched in the eye. I just bring it gently above my lash line which makes the look a lot more wearable.
Seriously, I tried out different poses with my hand just to show off my matching nails. XD
The color is Sally Hansen HD in Lite. :)
Close-up of the eyes. You can really see the outer-v contouring in this shot well.
My reference pic while I applied the makeup. I usually print it out but I <3 my new ipad! So handy! :D
Obligatory silly pics
Showing off my nails again and being mysterious. Ha!
Finger mustasche GO!
Jazz hands aka extra mysterious. I take myself very seriously. Also, #whalenecklacewin.
For those who are wanting to recreate this look, my biggest tips are these:
1 - Eyeshadow primer is key! It helps colors to stick to your eyes and not crease
2 - The white base really makes shadows pop, especially yellow
3 - Start with a little and add bit by bit
4 - Check the overall shadow shape with your eyes open as you go
Like I said before, if you can get your own "perfect" shape with bright colors, it's much easier to tone the same shape back to neutrals and have it look very flattering. Feel free to try out this look with other colors as well!
I hope you enjoyed watching and let me know if you enjoyed seeing a bright, colorful look. Should I do more of these dramatic eyes? I know they are less wearable but it's really fun to do. Let me know in the comments! ^_~

This is such an amazing look! I absolutely love it. Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial. I have enjoyed all your make up tutorials but I have to say this is my absolute favorite because it is so vibrant and unusual.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think you should be doing more dramatic eyes like this one and the prom one because it's great to use these on special occasions :)
I would like to ask a question as well, if you don't mind. What is the name of the song in the background? I absolutely love it :)
You are so beautiful and these photos are amazing. I love it all.
ReplyDeleteAlly: I just use good ole' photoshop!
ReplyDeletestephaniecee88: You definitely can but make sure you make your browbone highlight color really matte then. You wouldn't want to look like a disco ball from too much shimmer!
Amanda: The song is "Night Cave" by Kevin MacLeod

ReplyDeleteThis look was so much fun, Jen! It reminds me of how excited I got as a kid when I brought home a new batch of color markers. Although the look isn't wearable every day, it's definitely something I'd try to pull off at least once during the summer. Do more looks like this one, please! :D

Jen, you look so nice! Enjoyed watching your video, even though it took forever to load. lol
ReplyDeleteThe colors are vibrant and bright! It's not suitable for everyday but I love how you play with the different colors and create such great looks! Hope to see (even) more in the future! ^^
THANK YOU Jen for one of the most--if not THE most--informative makeup tutorial I have come across in a long time. The close-up view and commentary were a tremendous help in understanding your steps. Thanks for the charming yet non-distracting music as well. Some makeup tutorials out there have cool music, but it's so loud that I have to change the volume up and down as the person speaks and the music turns back on!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colors on an even more gorgeous lady as usual =).
The bright eye look is gorgeous! I really love your earrings, too - where are they from?
ReplyDeletesuch a gorgeous look. You look a bit like Dara from 2NE1!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! This look is gorgeous, especially because it takes the colors of my country flag. Greetings from Brazil!!
ReplyDeleteThis was totally amazing!! I mean, it's not only just GORGEOUS to look at, but it's so artistic as well! I love that it's wearable too! I love these fun, colorful and bright looks! I would love to see more. ^___^
ReplyDeleteGreat makeup. you look so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful look! I hope you do more of these in the future!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering though -- how does UD's Siren compare to their regular eyeliner color of Flipside, or the old liquid liner Minx? Thanks!
Id love to see more looks like this, even though they are less day time i like to play too!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!! Looove this look so much.... absolutely gorgeous.... thanks for sharing ^___^

ReplyDeleteJust wondering if you could do a hair tutorial for your hair in this tutorial and your tag one? I love it!
These tutorials are very helpful. I'm a new makeup artist and learning to work with eyes like yours are always a challenge for me. I'm definitely trying this out on a client tomorrow. Definitely more tutorials love. They're amazing <3

ReplyDeleteJen, could you tell me what brush you use to apply your M.A.C. Fluid line eyeliner?
ReplyDeleteI love your step by step tutorials. What a way to pull off the vibrate colors esp the yellow! I always think its difficult to wear bright yellow eye makeup. This is a must try eye makeup look before the summer ends ^_^
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I love it! Going to try it tomorrow night. This is my first time here and I must say.... if you're not a model, you should be!!! ;)
ReplyDeletehi jen. I'm Yen and I'm from Viet Nam. I really love the look of SNSD when they perform Run Devil Run on stage. I see it's different from the tae yeon look tutorial in RDR that u did before. I think it is gorgeous and really suitable for a night club. I'm dying to know how they make up. Korean always make up so naturally and still pretty. If u can't do a tutorial for this look please just tell me how I can achieve this look.
