IMATS LA 2011 Haul

Hello everyone! I hope you didn't miss me too badly but I am now back from California and it was a total whirlwind! I literally jam-packed nearly every single day and I can give myself a pat on the back for braving LA traffic and 8-lane highways with aplomb in my little rental Corolla, if I do say so myself. I guess those hour-long commutes to and from work have finally paid off. ^_~

Although I am still recovering from the jet lag, I did manage to film a little video on my IMATS haul yesterday. Ignore (or appreciate?) the raspy voice. I did a lot of talking, talking, talking this past week. LOL!

If you are curious about what I purchased at the huge makeup convention, please watch below!

Products Mentioned:

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet Foundation in #40
Make Up For Ever HD Foundation in #140
Sugarpill Eyeshadows in Buttercupcake and Midori
Sugarpill Loose shadows in Goldilux and Lumi
Parian Spirit Brush Cleaner set (Japonesque Parian Spirit here)
Unii Palette
Make Up For Ever single eyeshadow in #92 (bright matte purple)
Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara

If you've tried any of the items I got, let me know what you think of them in the comments. I've heard lots of people say they think MUFE HD 140 will be too dark for me... Eek!

As I said in the video, I'm so sorry if I was super shy if I met you at IMATS! I was so overwhelmed with everyone and everything there! It was for sure an amazing experience and I'm totally planning on going next year and I feel so fortunate to have met so many subbies in person. ^_^

If we did meet please send me the photo to my business e-mail! I'd love to compile them to put in a blog post!

Okay, time to get back to the grind. Going to work on editing my Cali vlog next and watching the vids makes me so nostalgic. I can't wait to go back. :D

Everyday Taupe Eyes Makeup Tutorial

Hello everyone! Today I just wanted to officially announce something that if you already follow me on Twitter you've probably known for a while: I will be flying out to Los Angeles next week and attending IMATS in Pasadena, CA! I know I mentioned this at the end of a blog entry earlier, but my plans are obviously confirmed now since I will be flying out in a couple days. Excited!!!

If you don't know what that is, IMATS is the International Makeup Artist Trade Show which is a big annual makeup convention where tons of top makeup brands have glorious booths of sparkle and magic and there are speakers and attendees alike who I am dying to meet. (Literally, dying. One of the keynote panels includes the makeup artists for True Blood! Omg love that show!) If you will also be there at the show please let me know in the comments. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you. ^_^

So on to today's tutorial. This look is what I recently wore in my May Hits & Misses video and I got several requests for the makeup. It's my favorite way to wear taupe eyeshadows!

Products mentioned:
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place ShadowCreme in Silver Leaf
MAC Eyeshadows in Vex, Satin Taupe, and Shroom
Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Yeyo
Holika Holika Wonder Drawing Dot Liner
Shu Uemura Lash curler
FAIRYDROPS mascara (updated version here)
FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen Mascara
Model 21 lashes in #63
Kiss Lash Adhesive (more accessible Duo lash glue here)
Rock & Republic Contrived Pressed blush in Spank
NYX Mosaic Powder in Highlighter
Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick in Coral Sensation (new Dior Addict lipsticks here)

And here are some images of my final makeup:

You can really see the extra glow on the cheeks here. I love that NYX powder because it's the perfect balance of inner glow without tacky sparkles.

A close-up of the eyes so you can see the shading.

Oh, I forgot to mention, my denim shirt is the same one from Target that I wore in my NYX Black Label lipsticks post and my necklace is actually my husband's grandmother's. The silver was all tarnished but I cleaned it up and absolutely love how classic it looks even now!

Well, I am super behind on my packing because I haven't started so I'm going to go do that now. Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and let me know in the comments what you want to see in my next videos (tutorial, hair, nails, vlog, tag, etc). Since I will be in Cali for a while I probably won't be updating the blog while I am there but you can be sure I will be taking tons of pics and video along the way so I can post like crajee when I get back. :D

What I will be updating lots of while on the coast is my Twitter so if you want to stalk me while I am local, feel free to follow me there. Spontaneous meetup maybe? Who knows!

Hope you guys have a great next week and I will try to as well. :D :D :D

Crackle Polish Demonstration :D

As I mentioned in my May Favorites video, a fun polish I've been playing around with is the current nail trend: crackle polish! It seems like each new year there is a new gimmicky nail polish trend that can mayhaps be amazing and mayhaps be a little meh.

Honestly I was very hesitant about crackle polishes at first because they just didn't seem very pretty. It wasn't until I saw dear Yasumi of Worship at the House of Blues have her post on her China Glaze Crackle Glaze in White on White here that I decided YES! I want to try it out too!

Products mentioned:
Sally Hansen Nail Growth Miracle polish in Loyal Lavender (from CVS)
China Glaze Crackle Glaze in Lightning Bolt (from Pretty & Cute)
Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat (from Sally Beauty)

And here are some pics:

Ridiculously pretty Sally Hansen Loyal Lavender polish

A second so you can see the dimensional color :D

Crackle on my ring finger. Too in love with the base polish to cover it all. I'm a timid crackler! Baby steps!

Close-up of good crackle action! (Although I hear the OPI crackles better? I'll have to test that.)

I got a bit more adventurous and crackled my thumbs also.
Look at me being all hip and with it 40%! *shakes cane*

I do have another hot pink China Glaze crackle polish and a black OPI one to try out, but for a first run I do have to say that the white crackle really grew on me. Part of the fun is simply watching that first 30 seconds when it splits apart, which I have to say is oddly satisfying. It's like the visual equivalent of eating a flakey Butterfinger bar, or really great baklava.  Mmmm, baklava...

This will probably split opinions, I know, but what do you think of crackle polishes? Are you on the crackle train? Let me know what you think in the comments. I honestly think it's fun but I probably won't buy the whole collection. :)

Disclaimer: China Glaze polish was provided by Pretty & Cute. All other items were purchased myself. Actually, the Sally Hansen polish is Hannah's and I just borrowed it but we won't tell. There are some affiliate links included in this post. I was not paid in any way nor required to do a review on the samples. :)

May Hits & Misses

I'll probably sound like a broken record at the beginning of each Hits & Misses entry, but I literally can not believe how fast this year as been going by. Seriously? It's June already? I feel like I was just bundling up for winter weather last week! (Or maybe was I hiding from all those tornadoes? ;p)

Anyway, this month I tried out a few basic color products including cream eyeshadow, 2 mascaras, blush, and eyeliner.

Products Mentioned:
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place ShadowCreme (Silver Leaf, Lilac Petals, Antique Gold, Precious Jade)
Lioele Crystal Muse Blusher in 02 Soft Lilac
Covergirl Lashblast Length Water Resistant Mascara in Blackest Black
Love by Joycos Power Curling Mascara
Holika Holika Wonder Drawing Dot Liner
China Glaze Crackle glaze polish in White on White (OPI version here)
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock in spf 45
Forever 21 Mirror Necklace

Eyes: Estee Lauder ShadowCreme in Silver Leaf, MAC Satin Taupe, Vex, and Shroom
Lips: Dior Addict High Shine lipstick in Coral Sensation
Face: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in b30 (I'm testing it and I think it's too dark for me)
Nails: Sally Hansen Nail Growth Miracle polish in Loyal Lavender

So definitely my favorite items this month that I've tried are those Estee Lauder cream shadows! I checked online and it seems that Silver Leaf and Lilac Petals are both probably shades that were discontinued so you'd have to find them at a Cosmetics Company store, but Antique Gold and Precious Jade are both still available everywhere. They are originally $17.50 but were $12.25 at my CCO.

Here's a screencap from my video of the swatches I made, so they are wonderful quality but you can at least get an idea of the shades.

Precious Jade - medium green with gold flash
Antique Gold - gorgeous medium copper
Lilac Petals - iridescent lavender (similar to the color of my nails in this video)
Silver Leaf - warm silvery taupe

As I said in the video, I did record some footage of my crackle polish in action so you'll get a better view of my lavender polish and also the white crackle polish in that one soon. I'll also definitely try out some more Korean and Japanese cosmetics items for next month's video.

By the way, I booked my flight for Cali so I'm planning on heading out for IMATS plus meeting up with family, friends, and companies at the end of the month! I'm super excited since I have actually never been to the west coast before! ^__^ If anyone has good advice of places to go and restaurants to eat at around LA definitely let me know.

I guess that's about it so I hope this month's hits & misses were helpful if you were interested in anything I tried. If you have anything you recommend that you want me to try leave it in the comments. Until next time~

Disclaimer: Lioele, Joycos, China Glaze, and Holika Holika items were provided by Pretty & Cute. All other items were purchased myself. There are some affiliate links included in this post. I was not paid in any way nor required to do a review on the samples. All my reviews, as always, are 100% my honest opinion. :)
