Interviews & Updates

10:30 AM

Today I wanted to share with you a couple of interviews I've had the honor of being a part of from around the 'net!

First off the lovely Kat from one of my favorite fashion & lifestyle blogs, Feather Factor, posted this in-depth peek at my style, favorite things, and advice on what to shop for. I'm a huge fan of the interview series on her blog (past interviewees include A Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin as well as fascinating and successful women from all walks of life... I'm so flattered to be a part of this list!) so definitely check them out if you enjoy reading about different people or seeing drool-worthy bag and designer collections. Thank you so much Kat for the interview and I can't wait to read your future interviews as well!

Next, I wanted to share the LA18 interview I did last month. The show was "Halo Halo with Kat Iniba" and I got the opportunity to talk a bit about my experience being on the cast of Away We Happened.

This was my first time being in a tv studio so it was a lot of fun to see everything behind-the scenes like green-screens and reflective monitors on cameras. If I look nervous at the beginning of the interview it's because I was trying hard not to stare at myself in the monitor. So awkward! Hahaha.

I am currently in the process of moving out of my apartment (any moving tips would be helpful!) so things will likely slow down on the Youtube and blog end, but please let me know in the comments what reviews or videos you'd like to see coming up!

  3. Thank you so much! I loved having you on and I am heading to the drugstore this weekend to try out some new products :) Best of luck with the move Jen...I am a horrible mover myself (yet I'm cheap about it so I want to do it all myself) so it never works out well. Thanks again!

  4. That's a really fantastic interview, Jen! Always enjoy reading about your faves. :) And reading about how you didn't really wear makeup until you were 21 is so relatable for me. I didn't really get into fashion (beauty as well) until I was a senior in college!

And I agree with the commenter above me--always label your boxes, it sounds so simple, but it's a huge help!

  6. Hope you guys have a "good" move?!?! I don't even know how to say it haha Quick tip, number all your boxes and make a list of what's in them, I guarantee you won't loose anything. I tagged you earlier today on twitter to do the no mirror makeup challenge ^^ Best of luck with your new place xx ♥

  8. Congratulations for everything! You deserve all your blessings.
Re: move, i agree with all commenters above, BOXES! Box the stuff base on your room area. let's say, boxes for Kitchen, boxes for Living room...etc...

Don't forget a lot of packaging tapes too!

  10. Moving tips: heavy stuff (books, dishes) in smallest boxes so easy for you to move around while packing and unpacking other stuff. It gets crowded with boxes. Wardrobe boxes are great for hanging clothes and throwing shoes in the bottom (you can buy some at home depot). Light stuff like blankets and clothes in huge boxes. Use blankets to wrap tv and large frames. Use towels to wrap between dishes and cups. Ask a pharmacy or other hospital friend to pick up free boxes for you before they're recycled. Pharmacy receives tons of IV fluids in WONDERFUL sturdy boxes and throw gazillions away every day. Otherwise, consider ordering moving supplies from uboxes.com, cheap and fast and good variety of stuff like tv boxes and sofa covers. Cover your mattress/furniture, professional movers' blankets often are dirty and smelly. Took weeks to remove a stink from our couch with lots of washing, use large masking tape as quick labels, write with sharpie large print what room, smaller print what's inside, like "LIVING books" for Living room and books inside. Rough estimate if you're FAST, 3 weeks for a 2 bedroom apt. And MOST importantly, put stuff you immediately need in specialy marked boxes, like with red marker all over it or something. Stuff like shower curtain, toiletries, toilet paper, medicine, phone charger, light bulbs, scissors (to open other boxes), checkbook, a couple days of clothes, bedsheets for first night in new place. And don't lose your purse or phone in the chaos. Good luck! And microwave meals are easy meals after dishes and silverware are packed.

    1. Oh, and try to label top and side of boxes. Top is useful so you don't have to squat to see label on the side, and side labels are useful for when you have 50 boxes stacked an lining your walls and the tops are impossible to see. Label large, so you don't have to squint and get close to find something you may need sooner than later. And last tip, unpack as fast as you can, or else whatever is still in boxes will stay in boxes for the next 3+ years. Donate whatever you can and get receipts from goodwill or salvation army and it's tax deductible. And if you donate furniture, salvation army will come pick it up.

    2. And I LOVE your site. I stumbled upon it while searching for makeup tips for monolids, since I'm standing for a friend's wedding. In my chaotic life with 2 babies, the only thing I self-indulge in is spending a few minutes exploring your site each night, and then I feel like a girl again, rather than a living drool bib sprinting between different cries. I was crying laughing when you described how some colored circle lenses look reptilian... XD anyways, good luck with your move! We're about to move 6th time in past 4 years. (>_<);; hopefully last time in next decade. :)

    5. Last tip, get good movers, either recommended by someone else with experience or from job's HR dept. HR should know movers, for when they recruit people to move into the area. Don't go with cheapest folks, they'll break your stuff and mover's insurance sucks. They reimburse you a fraction of value depending on WEIGHT, so light fragile stuff, forget about it. And the reimbursement may not come in for like 6 months, conveniently long enough to forget to follow up. =\ or look up good movers on Angie's list.

  11. How fun! I'm so excited for you, Jenn!

As for moving tips, I think I was telling you a little of what I did when we moved last month, but just go through everything while you pack. Make 3 piles - toss, keep, donate. That will cut out a lot of clutter and "stuff" you've accumulated while living in your apartment for so long. And definitely label your boxes. Keep same type items together, over label your boxes (so you know exactly where stuff is) - I got lazy toward the end and didn't label well and we've had a crappy time of trying to find stuff!

  15. It's a joy to know Jen, especially of her style, her jewelry that comprises mostly gold and sterling silver rings. The vintage sterling artichoke ring looks awesome.Remarkable interview!! Good job done.

  17. Jen--I really love how you share little tidbits of your personal life with us (like the fact that you're moving) and that somehow generates conversation that is applicable to many of us even though it may have little to do with beauty. Like, packing tips!! I so copy and pasted Elizabeth's tips.

Elizabeth--that is way above and beyond helpful advice. I am copying and pasting to hang onto!
