Fox Halloween Tutorial!

7:34 PM

Today's tutorial is my rendition of the quintessential "sexy" animal costume. We've all seen the cute mouse or sexy cat roaming around each Halloween with their face makeup being no more than a black button nose and liquid eyeliner whiskers, right? This year I wanted to have something a little more out of the ordinary.

Some of you may remember my Lion Halloween Tutorial from a couple years ago. Because I had so much fun doing a feminized, semi-realistic animal before it made me want to try my hand again. I had this fox costume from my visit to Leg Avenue last year so I remixed the makeup to match the sly, exotic nature of the animal while retaining some of the realistic elements of shading and coloration of an actual red fox.

Check out the video and photos below!

Fox costume is by Leg Avenue

One thing I love about this outfit is that the ears are on the hood, which makes for a really unique and cute look. In fact, it reminds me of my Rainbow Dash hoodie! I gotta say, I'm a sucker for anthropomorphic costumes.

Here you can see the shading and contouring on the face. The eyeshadow shape actually enhances the length of the nose while the cheeks hint at the muzzle/whiskers of a fox. I didn't want to draw in whiskers since it would detract from the realistic look I was going for, but you could skip the dark muzzle shading and add the whiskers for a "cuter" effect.

Looking straight on, you can see the triangle shape the shadow was applied in over the eyelids. I love taking elements like this eye shape from the real animal and exaggerating it when experimenting with makeup.

Obligatory animal paws up!

For the holidays, we pulled out these Halloween Domo plushies from Target a couple years ago. This is my best effort recreating Domo's face. ROAR!

And I just wanted to give you a peek at the whole costume 'cause seriously, how awesome is this tail? It's connected to the top by a large safety pin and it's HUGE AND FLUFFY!!!

Hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial!

  19. Adorable costume! I think you would really look good with some shorter bangs that sweep across your forehead at an angle! But I love your hair and you did a great job with the makeup! And... the tail... I want it!

  20. This looks so good! I'm going to try it this year. I'm trying to find that leg avenue costume...the sizes seem to be very broad (they have a "Small/Medium"). Is that the size you're wearing here?

    Thanks

  22. I've been wanting to get this costume, but I'm trying to find out if the tail is detachable or not. I would totally wear the dress part even if it wasn't Halloween!

  23. I just got this outfit in the mail today, and was highly disappointed. Its got the most terrible flimsy flat tail on it? How did you get yours so fluffy and full. That's the whole reason I wanted this outfit
