April 2013 Beauty Favorites!

6:44 AM

Hey everyone! I have a bit of wifi from my hotel room in Korea today so I wanted to do a quick update to share with you my April beauty favorites video that went up a few days ago. This month was filled with a few Spring trends that I'm loving including some highlighters that I am absolutely obsessed with and, of course, bright lipsticks! Check out my top picks this month below.

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:

Maybelline Color Whispers lipstick in Rose of Attraction
Maybelline Vivids lipstick in Neon Red
Tarte Aqualillies lipgloss in Charmed
Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Medium
Benefit Moonbeam
Chanel Illuminating Powder
Clinique Moisture Surge Intense
Benefit It's Potent Eye Cream
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

ON ME:

Foundation - Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation in Natural Beige 06
Eyes - Urban Decay Naked Palette
Lips - Maybelline Color Whispers lipstick in Rose of Attraction
Nails - Sensationail Gel Nails in Gold Glitter

As I mentioned in the video, I've been really enjoying the Tarte Maracuja concealer this month as it's one of the best non-creasing and non-drying concealers I've tried for undereyes. I have a crease that goes right from my inner corners under my "aegyo-sal" (undereye puffiness) and most concealers accentuate those crease lines to the point where it seems to look better without any concealer at all!

In terms of concealers, a huge thing to keep in mind is that you may need a very different concealer type for undereyes than for covering my hyperpigmentation. Undereye skin is very sensitive, so you want something hydrating enough that it won't cause a look of extra wrinkles. You may also need something slightly more orange or salmon-toned to counteract any blue or purple that may appear in undereye darkness (they are opposites on the color wheel and neutralize each other). This Tarte concealer is a bit orange on my skin so it blends to cover up my dark circles nicely plus it isn't too dry.

Definitely let me know if you've tried this concealer and your thoughts on it, or if you have another great undereye concealer recommendation!

Before I go, I wanted share a quick & easy lash application tutorial for Winks by Georgie false lashes that I did recently which you can watch on Youtube here. These lashes actually remind me of Asian false lashes in how they look and feel which I haven't found very often from American brands, so I wanted to let you know that they will be on sale on Hautelook starting May 6th at 11 AM EST for 48 hours. My personal favorite which looks very natural and not too long on shorter-lashed girls is #7 L'Amour. It's the one I used in the tutorial so if you like that look, it's my recommendation. :)

I hope you enjoyed my favorites! For those of you curious about my Korea travels you can take a peek into my life through following on Instagram @frmheadtotoe and Vine @frmheadtotoe which is how I've been sharing short video clips. I have been updating both of those, of course, through Twitter as well. I can't wait to pull together all my photos and videos after this trip and overload you with Korea! Hahaha!

Okay, time to get some rest for another long traveling day tomorrow so I'll talk to you guys again the next time I get a chance. Hugs from around the world!

  2. I've been using Giorgio Armani's master corrector in orange--I have a lot of purple shadow under my eyes, fine lines that get accentuated with any concealer formula that is drier than thin liquid (cream, stick, powder, you name it) and it does the trick perfectly.

    1. I haven't tried Petals and Peacocks but I like a lipstick from NYX in the shade Orchid which is a nice fuchsia that may work well on light skintones!

  14. you are looking very lovely and Audrey Hepburn-esque in this video! :) I would like to try that concealer, I have the same problem with the 'under-eye crease' (although I lack a crease on my eyelid - would be convenient to have them swapped :P). I have been using the Garnier roll-on concealer but it still finds its way into my little crease.. I've stuck with it because of its wetter formula but now I'm super tempted to try the Tarte one! Cheers for the heads up :) :)

  19. Hi Jen! I have been following you for a while now and I really love all your videos. They are all so helpful. I know this is kind of unrelated to this video, but I have recently just tried a mask that I love, so I thought I would share with you. It's the L'Occitane Angelica Instant Hydration Mask. It works so well and has an awesome scent! If you want to give it a try and maybe do a review on it, maybe other people will enjoy it also! Hope you like it!!! Thanks and keep up the great work!
