Top Trends for Spring 2014

9:00 AM

Hey guys! It’s about that time of year when the birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and the beautiful scent of weather change is in the air. Along with the seasons getting both sunnier and warmer, I’ve had my eye on a lot of trends that have been tugging my heartstrings for Spring!

NEON PASTELS

On the fashion front, you really can’t beat a great floral print paired with delicate jewelry like in my recent Spring Lookbook. The whole “neon pastel” color palette really speaks to me and I’ve been noticing myself gravitating toward those peaches, limes, and sky blues.

ELECTRIC BLUE

Another trend that I’ve been seeing is using electric blue as a go-to pop of color. The easiest way to rock this is to use a coat of polish like Urban Decay Chaos, add a hint of eyeshadow to your lower lash line, or accent a mostly neutral look with a bright accessory.

FRESH SCENT

I also like updating my perfume wardrobe with a spritz of a fresh, springy scent like Daisy by Marc Jacobs (which has been a returning favorite of mine for years) and Daisy Eau So Fresh, Daisy’s bright and charming sister.

I personally can’t wait to wear brighter colors, take Oreo to the park more, and wear all the sun hats and maxi dresses!

Readers, what is your favorite Spring trend? Do you switch up your key color/fragrance for the Spring? Let me know in the comments!

  1. The picture of you is so gorgeous! Love the background with all the flowers :) When it's cold outside I like wearing black! Now when it's getting warmer I'm more into flower prints and pastel colors :)

  2. I LOVE THE FIRST PIC SO MUCH! you look fabulous!!! <3 <3 <3

I switch colors when the spring comes but it's kind of automatic reaction rather than something I plan to do or do intentionally.

I guess the weather makes me wearing brighter and different clothes.

  4. I loveee bright colors for spring tune and floral! And I see you have the new Too Faced Melted liquide lipstick in I believe the color Melted Coral? I tried that one out at Sephora but it seemed too bright for me! Maybe I was also rushing it and didn't apply it well, but I ended up with Melted Peony. Could you do a swatch/blog post on this color?! That'd be bossss...haha

  20. Hey, just discovered your blog. This is some great stuff! I'm just starting to delve into Korean beauty products and it's so helpful to have a point of reference! Also, as a young professional, I love that your looks are so natural and polished; they're definitely practical lessons for someone like me, who wants coverage at work without that dreaded overly-made-up look. Thanks!

  22. Hi Jen!!! I love your blog and youtube.com videos. I'm a more mature reader (late 30s), but still find inspiration in your perspective ! The neon pastels are my favorite current spring 2014 trend. I've noticed that I do change my color palette based upon seasonal preference. I change my fragrances often based not only upon season, but upon mood. Lighter fragrances for spring & summer and heaver fragrances for winter.

    1. Haha I wouldn't call late 30's a "mature reader" at all! According to my demographics you are definitely in good company. ;) And I agree about the mood thing. Sometimes I wear a lighter fragrance during the day and a heavier one at night, year-round!

  23. Deborah Lippmann like many nail lacquers brands which were brought into Singapore sells at a price about USD$25 while Amazon is selling it at USD$18. Price is a bit steep for common folks like myself. Unless it's a color which I really really really really really wanna have, am gonna just settle for more affordable options like the drugstore brands and the Korean Beauty shop ones. The colors are enticing though.... What do you think?

    1. I love a lot of colors from Korean brands but I find they have a lot more chemicals in them and smell stronger. Also, they chip quicker for me, but maybe that's just me! Do they have OPI in Singapore? I find that to be a solid quality mid-price brand. :)

    2. Hi Jen,
Yes we do have OPI here which generally costs about USD$16 here. I tend to buy then during departmental store offer which is between 20% - 40% off the regular price. Although rumors said that some of the nail lacquer brands sold in Qoo10 (gmarket) may not be authentic, it's my alternative option. And Yes I do agree some of the Korean brands do chip off quite easily. But some of the colors they are have are sooooo cute and sweet I can't help buying a few for myself. I guess OPI is still the best option I can fall back on and is available here. =)

  25. Too Face Melted is supposed to be super hydrating. I find they dry my lips out like crazy. Anyone else? I tried the new formula Melted Metal and find these to be much more hydrating than the original.
