REVIEW & SWATCHES: NARSissist Cheek Palette

9:00 AM

Ahhh, blush. There are few things in the makeup world I am more apt to collect than a really great blush. There's just something about them that makes me weak in the knees and convinced that I need multiples of the all-flattering "warm pink with gold shimmer" iconic shade of which NARS Orgasm is the Original-Gangsta-Mac-Daddy of them all.

To have such a blush-inducing (pardon the pun) name that beauty addicts spit out without a second gasp (ok, I really need to stop) must mean that the color is so well-known that the usual whispers and giggles should only be used after an exhilarating.... ahem. Shopping haul.

Well, NARS' new NARSissist Cheek Kit has the perfect balance of contour, blush, and highlight that will leave even the most neutral of clients flushed. ;)

Included in the kit are 3 pans plus 1 brush:
Devotee Highlighting Blush (pale pinkish sheen)
Orgasm Blush (peachy-pink with gold shimmer)
Laguna Bronzer (diffused brown)

The Travel Brush included is slightly smaller than the size of my hand, but as you can see the brush head itself is actually quite large. Since the pans on this palette are narrower than the brush width, I prefer using something like the Sigma F40 Large Angled Contour brush instead.

Typically freebie brushes are sub-par in quality but this one is actually extremely soft and usable on an everyday basis. I've been loving it for all-over setting powder.

Devotee Highlighting Blush was previously only released in another limited edition blush palette and has a flattering pinkish-alabaster sheen.

Orgasm Blush has peachy-pink tones with gold shimmer. It works on most skintones and has medium pigmentation so it's very easy to get this right without too much fussing.

Laguna Bronzer is a matte, medium brown bronzer which is well-loved due to its not-too-orange and not-too-muddy coloring. It falls perfectly in the middle and will work as a contour or all-over color for those NC40 and lighter.

I used a particularly heavy hand to apply these swatches so they would show up on camera, but you can see the colors themselves really compliment each other and will work for a nice everyday look. The compact is perfect for travel and definitely encourages me to highlight and contour on an everyday basis and hey, everyone looks better a bit more chiseled and glowing, am I right?

If you have significant fine lines or just prefer a matte blush, you may want to skip out on this trio since it's shimmery for the most part. Also, if you are a deeper skintone than NC40 the Orgasm blush may not show up enough (to whom I would recommend the similar but slightly deeper NARS Deep Throat blush instead).

The price is on the more luxury end at $49 (compared to $30 for a NARS single-pan blush) but if you consider the full-sized NARS blush brush is $42, the NARSissist Cheek Kit is actually a really nice limited edition set which I have no regrets purchasing. For simple makeup days, this is absolutely my go-to which I highly recommend while it's still available.

  3. Hey Jen, what do you think of the brush?
I bought this a while ago and, though I haven't tested out any of the shades, have been using the brush with another compact I have. I've noticed that bristles tend to fall out every time I use it. Are you having the same problem?

    Thanks!

    1. I haven't had that problem at all with mine actually! Maybe the one you got was a defect? I'm not sure!

  4. If only they had other shades :( They always push laguna in the kits but I already have that one!

  5. Ahhhh, If I didn't already have the mini Orgasm/Laguna duo, I would've definitely gotten this one. If they came out with another trio with different shades, or a trio with the blush Taj Mahal (the orange blush I've been eyeing and obsessing over since my orange kick came in) I would totally swoop that up.
I've been loving my I Love Sasatinnie Fusion gradation pink blush though and my cream UD blush in Bang!

  8. Oh, Orgasm, do you really need to be in every single palette?

That is a gorgeous shade! I'm not one for shimmery nail polishes, but that could be an exception!

  17. Love this. I've always wanted to try Orgasm (yes even with that cringe-worthy name) and Laguna. I already own a NARS bronzer in Casino and while I love mine and wear it on a daily basis, a girl can never have enough bronzers right? I think $49 is a very reasonable price to pay for this palette.

  19. Have you tried mixing the bronzer and blush? I'm super pale and don't contour much, but love a soft pinkish-browny color for blush and would love to see how those two mix.

    1. I usually put the bronzer just under the cheekbones with the blush right over it so the colors definitely overlap, but I do apply them separately. If you love the pinky-bronze color you should try this Too Faced Pink Leopard blush: http://bit.ly/1isAHmq <---definitely your style!

  21. I'm usually for separate items but this palette is an exception; I desperately want it!! I feel its perfect because I want to try out orgasm and laguna but not pay the full price. Plus, I've never seen a highlighter/blusher/bronzer trio before so I feel it's super convenient. Unfortunately I can't seem to find this palette anyway in the UK and Sephora won't ship it to us for some reason :(

  26. Hi Jen - just wondering how you think this compares to the Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette?

PS - recently came across your videos and I'm a huge fan!

  27. This reminds me so much of the little palette that came out with the Divergent colleciton @ Sephora earlier this year! These kindsa palettes are so useful when you travel! HowDoesDeeDoIt

  28. I just bought a Sleek Face Form Contouring and Blush Palette in Light which is pretty much the same concept but I believe it's much cheaper. Not sure about the colour payoff, but the blush shade in Rose Gold is a supposed dupe for Orgasm. :)
