Outfit Of The Day: 9-28-10 quick video!

I told you guys I was going to post a quick OOTD video to try out the style and see what you think! ^_^

The video is really short because I recorded it before I went off to work. The weather has really been cooling down lately so layers are definitely a necessity. I don't enjoy feeling cold but I must say, I adore Fall fashion and playing around with layers during this season more than any other because you can see all of the fun elements of an outfit without being burdened by heat or huge coats.

To kick things off, here is an outfit that my coworker Jason (who is very into comics) said looked like the colors of a thousand villains, bright violet and acid green. ;D Considering my big MAC Venomous Villains haul I ordered last night, it only seemed appropriate that I post this today!

Isn't this necklace so bomb? Catherine of See Jewelry Online was kind enough to send me a few of her pieces so hopefully you will be seeing more of her stuff popping up in my future OOTD posts. This one is my favorite of what she sent me and I swear to you, it matches everything from these bright colors to a plain t-shirt. Very me. Love, love love!

 I also wanted to show a close-up of the eye makeup. Not because it's anything fancy but the opposite, actually! Only 1 eyeshadow. That being said, this is one of the coolest eyeshadows I've ever used.
The color is Rock & Republic's Lawsuit which is a reddish-brown with a green flash. I love the complexity of the color. :D

Purple Gradient Nail Art Tutorial

There were sooo many people who had asked me to do a tutorial for the purple gradient nails from my BoA Game Inspired makeup tutorial so I wanted to show you guys how I did it here, as a follow-up to my Basic Nail Polish Application Tutorial post.

It looks a bit goopy in this close-up pic but it definitely looked smoother in person. My coworker said they looked like vampire nails so I suppose it's only appropriate with October almost being here. ;)

I like how my right hand turned out better than my left. Gloopy left is the photo above, but the much smoother right hand is below. Pretty bizarre considering I'm right-handed but I can be fairly ambidextrous when it comes to nail art! It must be all the practice. ^_~ The real key is making the first layer really translucent because it's easier to blend the dark parts than to blend in the light color.

Hope you guys enjoyed it and forgive me for the short entry. The weather here is cold, dreary, and rainy today and I'm still sick so I think I'm going to wrap myself up in a blanket and have some hot soup. Have a nice weekend!

Summer Fashion: Part 2 Dressy-Casual Wear

Hey everyone! If you follow me on Twitter you'll know I've been battling coughs for the last few days so I've decided to visit to my backlog of images for today's post. I know I promised a while ago that I would post a "dressier" counterpart to my Summer Fashion Part 1 post so I better get this up before it starts freezing outside!

To start off, I'll ease you in with a transition-y outfit that worked well at my cold office. I'm always wearing cardigans since I can easily put it on or take it off depending on how freezing the air conditioning is that day, and this thick-knit grey one is very on-trend for fall. I added a gold bow pin to give it some extra detail. The girly touch plus the ruffles on the floral tank made me feel quite pretty.

I was really excited when I found this black dress at Forever 21 for $9. It fit great and was comfy. I did spend the day yanking down the hem though, so probably best for casual weekends. Check out the awesome drape of this cardigan! Love it. <3 By the way, everyone knows red heels are neutrals, right?

I was absolutely in love with this dress this summer! It also came in pink but it seemed a bit too youthful for me. The cut of this dress is perfection and gotta love the seersucker and pockets! It's awesome AE carries some 00 in stores now. :)

I flipping adore these patent heels from Pretty Small Shoes. They have the perfect almond toe and aren't too high or low, plus I bought them during the summer sale they had. Still pricey for me, but for fitting my tiny feet it was worth it! They have been squeaking on me lately though. Anyone have good tips to fix that?

This dress you'll probably recognize if you follow Alterations Needed because she posted the same one in black recently (which was too small for her and subsequently bought by me :D). She actually bought the dress because I bought this one first, so it just goes to show you how late I've been posting things AND how tiny I actually am. Oops. Anyway, I am pretty much obsessed with this dress.

For some reason I feel really awesome when I find things that look better on me than the model. These girls look depressed!

And a closer view + the back to show extra detail. The eyelet lace over pink is adorable, plus it has layers of folded material at the waist band create a pretty belt. I even think the weird pooch at the back is cute, almost like a bustle. I'm probably just weird and it's probably just weird too but I like it. ^_^

I know I showed this before, but I adore my Ekilove necklace and I wear it all the time. :D Sometimes simple accessories speak loudly too.

The bow in my hair is actually a fringe holder velcro thing and I did not wear it all day. LOL. -_-;;;

I guess drapey cardigans are a running theme for this post! Love this Banana Republic cardi's heathered fabric and the color combo of the American Apparel dress is one of my favs as well.

I'm always drawn to rich jewel tones, especially when it gets closer to fall and I feel like the greenish-teal of this one makes my skin glow. I can't wait to wear this "versatile-straps" dress with some tights, boots, and a leather jacket during the cooler months! The necklace is a statement piece, of course, with no other jewelry to keep it simple. There's something to the combo of soft and hard textures that I love about it.

Another transitional outfit! Mustard yellow is really big for Fall, and I really love how it looks on Asian skintones especially. I was so stoked when I got this eyelet skirt in and it fit so well. It's too bad white can't be worn as often in the Fall season because it's one of my favorite colors to wear. I'll miss it!

2NE1 "Clap Your Hands" 박수쳐 Sandara Inspired Tutorial

Hello everyone! Today's look was another highly requested Kpop-inspired video look, once again from 2NE1's Dara. I'm not sure why I get so many requests to do Park Sandara's makeup but I think it's because people can see a resemblance, or they can see that I can "pull off" a look if she can...

This tutorial is based of their new music video, "Clap Your Hands" which I've been fairly well obsessed with lately. The song is catchy and the looks in the video are so fun to watch. ^_^

Close-up of the look. It actually really reminds me of pin-up style makeup except the eyeliner is more edgy, and actually my eyeliner is less intense than Dara's! Also, NYX Snow White is my favorite red lipstick. The deep, saturated red really fit the look this time too. The key point is having a perfectly precise edge by using lip liner first + a lip brush.

I know this is totally not like the video, but I find this makeup rather sexy! This is my attempt (fail again) at a "sexy face". LOL!

Ok, this is more like me. Pouts and smiles. Hehe.

Anyway, I hope you really enjoyed this look! I had a blast doing it and it's actually one of my very favorite inspired looks so far. I do the cray cray looks for fun, but somehow I am more pleased when I still look like myself in the end. I think my Sandara looks somehow bring me that satisfaction, even while they are intense. ^_^

Basic Nail Polish Application Tutorial

Ahhh, it's such a beautiful Saturday! Sometimes I wish the weather would always stay this for the Fall: 74 with a high of 80, sunshine, blue skies, and mild enough for lightweight cardigans and flip flops. It really seems like it went from BLAZING HOT summer to Fall in a matter of one week where I live! But hey, that's midwest weather for you. ;)

I'm not complaining, but I do want to soak it up while it lasts. As soon as October hits, I'll be grasping my legwarmers and wool jackets for dear life! I much prefer the heat to the cold because I'm a weenster like that.

So getting back on topic, I've had an interesting time with my nails lately. This last 2 months I've gone polish-less (GASP!) for more than I have in the last whole year. Really bizarre, but I just haven't always found the time on my weekends to reapply something fun. Hopefully that will change as the weather cools since I'll want to be inside and warm up all day. ^.^

For those of you who are used to having naked nails and wanted a tutorial for a good polish application technique -- base, polish, and topcoat included -- here is how I apply nail polish.

* Seche Natural - this is a nail treatment but it works well as a basecoat. I also have and love Seche Clear. (similar here and here)
* OPI Who Needs A Prince? - sheer-ish cute, red-flash pearly pale pink. needs 3 or 4 coats to be opaque, but is SO PRETTY when opaque. (other pale pinks I love here and here)
* Seche Vite - my HG top coat. Basically, this is the magic product that keeps polish on way longer, dries faster, and makes it super shiny. LOVE!

Here is a pic of the final look I did right after the basic polish application. The tutorial for this purple gradient nail art will be coming up very shortly.

Urban Outfitters Haul & Recent Fashion Purchases (including Chanel!!)

Haha! If you follow me on Twitter you will know that I was teasing about posting my new haul from Urban Outfitters yesterday. Just wanted to post a quick FOTD with this look. This is about what I've been doing everyday lately. Just eye makeup, blush, and nothing else on the face. The past month has been too hot for foundations, concealer, or lipstick. My skin has been better to me since I've been wearing less, but you can still see some pigmentation spots, acne, and pores. Anyone else do the half-bare face in the summer?

Speaking of lace, have you noticed I've been wearing a ton of it? I'm pretty much obsessed with lace and always have been. :) Here's another couple lace items, this blush-colored sheer top from Marshall's and a white eyelet-lace skirt from Karmaloop.com.

A petite coworker had ordered some J.Crew Petite Minnie Stretch Twill crop pants online in 00p and they were too small for her so she kindly passed them on to me. They were too large at first so I shrunk them in the wash. A bit of warning to those interested, they stretch over time so they fit at first and were baggier as the day went along. Still undecided on if I'm keeping them or passing them along to another petite. 

I was also hesitant about crop pants since I am petite, but they are all over the place this fall! Channeling my inner Audrey Hepburn, I pulled this outfit together. I personally prefer cuffing the bottoms for a casual look. The bow belt was also a gift from the gorgeous ExtraPetite since it was too small for her. Lucky me! What do you think?

Another amazing purchase that I talked about on Twitter is this ridiculously beautiful Chanel purse that I managed to snag on Hautelook. It's actually sort of like a giant clutch since the chain handle zips across, but it does have a little gold chain with the iconic double C's near the zipper. Lovely ruffles in lovely soft lambskin leather. My first Chanel anything! No words, my friends. No words. ^_______________^

So, this Kimchi Blue Knit Jacket is another thing that had tons of buzz among the petite blogging community. First spotted on Chloe Conspiracy, then on Alterations Needed, I abruptly decided I needed it myself since I am fairly well obsessed with blazers. Ironically, Extra Petite, Petite Little Girl, Petite XXS, and Stylepint, all decided the same thing. It's so bad how we all enable each other, isn't it? ^.~ 

The fit is a little loose in the waist on me, but I'm hoping that will shrink a little in the wash. I wanted extra oomph at the neckline, so I took the satin belt on this top and used it as a loose bow-tie. By the way, isn't the back of this jacket just the cutest?

The Gucci is another lucky snag from Hautelook. I think refreshing the screen a billion times has gotten me lucky because I'd never be able to afford this at full price with a clear conscience. It's so luxurious, it is real crocodile on the outside, and lined in leather on the interior. Pretty much tiny and Jen-sized (don't let the proportions fool you). Eee, my biggest designer purchases ever!

Along with my Urban Outfitters order I also bought this Thistlepearl dress that I had again seen on Chloe here. She said the top was huge but the reviews said the hips ran small so I took a gamble and sure enough, it works for me. A bit loose at the waist, but the hips are nice and small on me, and the shoulder straps were long but are an easy hand-sewing fix. I love the dreamy, floaty fabric. It'll look great with a cardigan and boots for the Fall.

I also bought this ruffle-front bodysuit to wear under skirts based on reviews saying the torso was super short. My own torso isn't actually short, but the bodysuit fit like it was made for me. The linen skirt is also new, from the BCBGeneration store. Love the little buttons and pockets on it, plus it ran small.

Another dress. What can I say, I love dresses! Belted, and with its original elastic waist. Thank you Jean for sending me this belt too! I like how the tan belt makes the ruffles look cuter somehow. Also, you can see the black elastic is rather loose on me in the side photo. Hubby likes the dress though, so I'll keep it anyhow.

And to pull things around full circle, (this was not planned either) the outfit I wore yesterday. The slightly more shrunken-from-the-wash Banana Republic navy blazer, and a bit of this adorable White Rabbit print. I also bought these sandals for $7 at the Marshall's by the lake! I love their stock of nicer kids' shoes since they are narrower and fit more like womens'.

I also bought a couple adorable jewlery stands to organize my bling in a cuter fashion. I love the bird one but I'm on the fence about the color of the turquoise basket one. It looked mintier online and mint green is one of my favorite colors. Turquoise I'm afraid will clash too much, so maybe I'll exchange it for the pink one in-stores.
