HG Spotlight: Rock & Republic Eyeshadow Review/Swatches

11:43 PM

Since there is a Rock & Republic Beauty sale on Hautelook TODAY 1-24-2011 I wanted to post up this video I recorded this weekend. I didn't even realize there would be a sale so soon but I hope this review will come in handy for those of you who are interested in the eyeshadows!

If you don't already have an invite to Hautelook you can use mine to join here: http://www.hautelook.com/invite/836240
You don't need to use my link to join, but it does give the referrer credit after your first purchase if you do. I'm not an affiliate of Hautelook or Rock & Republic or anything, but I do think it's a great site and I've bought a ridiculous amount of great deals from it. :)

Here are the colors I own of the Rock & Republic Saturate Eyeshadow (click to view larger):

Veil - matte eggshell
Carat - creamy golden sheen
Exile - warm metallic honey-bronze
Vintage - warm matte brown with depth
Diffused - cool taupe (maybe similar to MAC Satin Taupe)
Lawsuit - duochrome with green flash over a burgundy-brown base

Snakeskin - grey-green-brown dusty awesomeness
Chronic - olive green with golden sheen
Envy - perfect forest green (maybe a MAC Humid dupe)
Jaded - a bright, shiny jade green
Electric - a saturated, glowy electric blue

Tempting - dusty, shiny purple
Paranoid - awesomely warm, matte, saturated purple
Twisted - glowy cool purple with a purple-blue flash

The colors that I LOVE the most from this collection are Carat, Lawsuit, and Snakeskin. Seriously, I could call nearly all of them my favorites on any given day though. I hope you can see from my swatches how high-quality and saturated these colors are. These swatches were with no primer at all, and they are the very swatches I did while making the video so it's not like I was trying extra hard to get great swatches.

Definitely HG material for me! :D

I also wore these during the video, but I'll talk about them in the future.
Rock & Republic Exhibition Pressed Powder in Satin
Rock & Republic Contrived Pressed Blush in Spank

Hope these swatches are helpful for those of you wanting to purchase from the Rock & Republic sales going around but were curious about the eyeshadows. My opinion? Absolutely try them out! You won't be disappointed, at least in the colors that I own. :)

If you bought some or own any already, let me know what you got in the comments!

(I bought these all myself. No disclaimers needed. :)

  4. I also love green shadowssss, green is basically my neutral color. After seeing your vid I really want Chronic but I already have 2 of MAC's Sumptuous Olive and it looks pretty close... can never have too many olive shadows I 'spose.

  8. these colors really are so great. i agree with what you said with blue. i am korean with tanner skin, and i have tried blue eyeshadow before and i it ends up looking sort of cheap and not elegant. the greens and purples look so pretty and i bet they really flatter asian skintones.

  9. I got really into R&R b/c of you =D You always get the BEST colors! I own Tempting, Exile and Lawsuit, and I tried to recreate the look you did in the OOTD post where you were only wearing Lawsuit alone... but it did not look as good as it does on you. It got very muddy for me when I tried to blend it.

Can you give any tips for applying duo-chrome shadows? I think I would like Lawsuit more if I could apply it correctly =P

  10. I love their eyeshadows! I actually bought lawsuit and snakeskin based on your recommendation a couple months ago. And I loveeee them. I bought about 5 more a couple months ago, love them also. And thanks for your review on the face powder as well! I've been wanting to try them for awhile but had a hard time color matching my skin based on the online pics. Now I can get it. Thanks Jen! You're so helpful.

  14. Hey! I just recently found your blog and wanted to thank you for all the great recommendations. Even at 38 I think women should look their best and I think you can certainly be an inspiration to even us older moms! I'm very impressed with your maturity and the way you present yourself...not to mention how beautiful you are. I have a little girl and even though she's only 9 she sits up on my lap and we watch all your fun videos together. I hope she grows up to be as sweet and as beautiful as you are! We need good roll models these days (unfortunately the pickins are slim these days where roll models for young girls are concerned). Thanks again for such a great blog!

  15. Hi Jen! I recently came across your tutorials on youtube for tips on how to apply makeup for monolids, and was blown away by how thorough, detailed, and helpful your videos/blog posts are! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into making them; I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your advice! I am only starting out in makeup and afraid that I need a lot of help...I purchased lawsuit and snakeskin on your recommendation, and hope that someday I will be skilled enough to wear them properly!

  16. Thanks so much for the post, the swatches & description are very helpful. I've been interested in their eyeshadows but hautelook never describes them in depth (matte, shimmery etc). I've just picked up Veil & Vintage b/c of your blog & review :)

  24. I can't wait! I just ordered your top 3 picks because the swatches were absolutely gorgeous. Plus they look so versatile, and I like the idea that you can just put one shade on and still have a lot of dimension ^^. Thanks for your review! It definitely helped.

  38. Hi Jen.
This is a little off topic but I picked up a bottle of vanicream from walgreens and I love it. Its definitely something I would repurchase. I bough the lite lotion which absorbs pretty quick and keeps my skin moist. Thanks for the recommendation. I would never picked it up.

  40. I was always wanted a pressed powder but was afraid to order R&R's because nobody reviewed it. It was always the blush or eye shadows. So I thought it wasn't very good. But after I saw your video I ordered it lol :D
So, How do you like it so far?? Mine has not shipped yet so I'm very nervous to try it out :P

  46. Hey jen! There's another haute look r & r sale today but all of the blushes were sold out within minutes of the sale starting. Would u recommend using any of the pinkish r & r eyeshadows as blushes? I was wondering if the formula was similar to the blushes. I was interested in buying privilege as a blush. I also plan on buying the matte brown r & r eyeshadow and using it as an eyebrow powder.

  47. Because of you I got really crazy into R&R and I've bought over 30 different eyeshadows... Well at least I got almost all of them at just over $6 a pop, thank you sales. The ones I use daily are veil, skintight, vintage, and ammo. They make a fantastic neutral combination that isn't too much on a regular day. And for the person who asked, I use Privilege and Corset as blushes, the first one is a medium pink with gold shimmer, and the other one is a baby pink.

  48. Sorry, one other thing. Does Exile have a good dupe in the Naked Palette?
