TAG: Top 5 Perfumes

8:21 PM

Hey guys! It's officially mid-November and I can't help but think to myself that time is traveling by extra-fast this month. Maybe it's because I've started preparing gifts for Christmas and, like last year, I am preparing to donate an item to the BeautyBloggers.org charity auction. I'll give more information about this year's auction closer to the starting date (Nov 28th) but as a little teaser, I am donating a very special lipstick this year. ;)

For today's video I wanted to share some of my very favorite perfumes in a fun tag:

As I mentioned in the video, my favorite types of perfumes are fruity-florals and I try to avoid perfumes that have baby powdery scents and "old lady" classic perfume scents like the plague. They just don't work with my personal body chemistry and end up smelling very flat and unflattering.

I also appreciate adorable packaging like this cute DKNY Be Delicious apple! ^_^

Here are my top 5 altogether in their cute glass bottles.

Paris Hilton (2005)
Fragrance Notes: Frozen Apple, Peach Nectar, Wet Ozone, Sparkling Muguet, Freesia, Mimosa, Jasmine, Tuberose, Skin Musk, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Oakmoss, Pheromone.

I'd describe this one as being "cute and sexy" on me. It's on the sweeter end of perfumes I like but it's great for a night out. It's purported secret ingredient is pheromone in case you want to bring all the boys to the yard.

Marc Jacobs Daisy (2007)
Fragrance Notes: Violet Leaves, White Woods, Strawberry, Gardenia, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Jasmine Petals, Violet Petals, Vanilla, Musk

This perfume is a lighter floral that is a bit preppy and appropriate for everyday. It's not too strong that it's distracting but it's still nice and put-together. I also find that this one doesn't seem to change on different people's skin as much as other perfumes, or maybe it just smells good on most people. The clean wearability reminds me of Clinique's Happy perfume and it's a good "starter" perfume for those new to fragrances.

L L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani (2007)
Fragrance Notes: Water Hyacinth, Violet, Fresh Pear, White Freesia, Jasmine, Muguet, Sweet Pea, Rose, Orange Blossom, Heliotrope, Peach

This perfume is one of my more sophisticated and heavier perfumes and has fresh, floral top notes but definitely has a cooler, muskier base to it that is more masculine than my other perfume picks. I like it for an elegant date night since it's very classy.

DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom (2009)
Fragrance Notes: Apricot, Cassis, Grapefruit, Smooth Skin Accord, Blond Woods, Jasmine, Rose, Apple, Muguet

I really love this perfume as an everyday daytime fragrance. It's a bit sweet, floral, and feminine. The "Fresh Blossom" name originally scared me since I usually stay away from heavy florals but it's actually quite light and I absolutely love undertones of apple in it. It's a really nice balance of florals without trying too hard.

Fragrance Notes: kiwi, watermelon, musk, pink cyclamen
From Sephora, "3 L'Imperatrice is a confident, charismatic, boundary-shattering blend with a top of rhubarb, kiwi accord, and red currant; a heart of pink cyclamen, watermelon, and jasmine; and a base of musk, sandalwood, and grapefruit wood."

I don't know if I would call this boundary-shattering but it's certainly the first scent I've ever felt wholeheartedly connected with, like we stared each other down and we knew it was meant to be. From the first application through the dry-down, I absolutely adore this perfume. On me, the rhubarb-watermelon notes really come through and smells to my nose like sparkling strawberry mixed with cherry blossom. It's sweet and sophisticated at the same time and I never feel like its wearing me. On the contrary, when I wear this I find myself constantly smelling my wrists and thinking I wish I could smell like this all the time! Although this line of D&G perfumes claim to be unisex, this one is definitely NOT for guys. Come on, it's pink for goodness's sake!

The one downfall is that the scent disappears pretty quickly (3 hours max on me) so it takes reapplication throughout the day to keep the scent lingering. It also doesn't have as much depth on my friends or sister, so it really has to work with the chemistry of the wearer. For me, 3 is my #1 perfume love!

Some honorable mentions I wanted to include are:

Burberry Brit Sheer
A fresh, fruity floral that I don't own yet but want! I recall it being slightly more citrusy than my other loves, which I enjoy.

Salvatore Ferragamo Incanto Shine
This one reminds me a bit of the Paris Hilton perfume. It's on the sweeter side but it's very fresh and lovely. It doesn't last too long on me though, unfortunately.

J'adore Dior
I love the sample of this I have but won't buy the full size until I run out. It's a fresh floral that is sexy, sophisticated, and very lady-like. This is another date night at a nice restaurant kind of perfume for me.

Lacoste Essential
Clean, fresh, long-lasting, and sliiiightly citrusy without losing any masculinity in the process. Ugh, so sexy. I die. This is my current favorite cologne.

Victoria's Secret Very Sexy For Him 2
Both Very Sexy For Him and Very Sexy For Him 2 are very sexy but 2 is a bit cleaner and lighter for day-wear. It's my original fav scent on hubby and I can't imagine this would smell bad on any guy, it's that good.

This is another scent that I think would smell good on every male. Very clean, very sexy, very I-smell-hot-but-I-don't-try-too-hard. Hubby also has the deodorant of this and I swear to you, his t-shirt pits smell fantastic.

I hope this was informative if you have a similar nose to myself or if you are in the market for a new scent! Let me know in the comments what your favorite perfume is (and why, if you can describe it) as well as your favorite cologne... Who knows, maybe hubby can find something new too!

i agree acqua de gio smells sooooo good!! i <3 it haha but another scent that i was sooo surprised by was this men's scent by Express. It smelled so friggin amazing I was tempted to buy a bottle xD me & my friends all agreed it smelled so good haha and honorable mention is Issey Miyake

  3. i'm uber sensitive to scents and perfume usually gives me a headache. i, too, would likely choose something unscented vs. scented. there is only 1 "perfume" that i use (and absoluuutely love). givenchy ptisenbon tartine et chocolat. it's super fresh and clean and subtle. it's actually for "boys" cuz it's the blue one. there's a pink one for girls, but i prefer the blue. it's more citrusy, than floral, though. if you do try it, would love to know what you think. it's kinda hard to find but you can find it on amazon. =)

  4. Hey Jen! Thanks for the post, I love seeing people's favorites. I love Jo Malone's "Honeysuckle & Jasmine", but really really want to try Marc Jacob's "Blush" - so hard to find though!

  5. I never wear perfume, but I just got a sample of Marc Jacobs Lola from Sephora, and...I am very tempted to start wearing perfume. I can't stop smelling it on my wrists. Almost all the perfumes I've smelled before were variations of the same "old lady" scent, but this one is definitely floral and not overwhelming to me. I'll try Daisy and see what I think of that one.

  9. The DKNY sounds amazing, I love apple. Personally I still love Polo Blue on guys and as for the Aqua di Gio, although I love it, my dad wore it at some point in my childhood so I can't call it sexy, haha. My favorite is van Cleef and Arpel's Feerie.

  14. I've tried a lot of the ones you've posted here, but DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossoms is my favorite perfume! =D
You should try Incanto Bliss. That one is light and fruity. It's really nice. And Versace's Bright Crystal is very nice too.

  15. great timing on this post - i've been looking for a new fragrance and the d&g perfume is what i've been debating on! i've been wearing ck one for a long time as my every day - not super over powering for work - scent. but i'm so tired of it and i've been debating between #3 and #6. #3 always smells so amazing but for some reason i'm afraid, like you said for some of your friends, it just won't wear well on me or last over the course of a day...
i do recommend getting ferragamo incanto shine, though. i wear it when i feel very playful, flirty. and how funny - i always find that fragrances tend to fade quickly on me yet this one will last all day for me.

  17. Hi Jen, you should try the new Daisy Eau So Fresh its like the original but with a fruitier and softer feel. It's notes include Raspberries, Peony Rose and Plum. Its Playful and whimsical.
Chloe is also a favourite of mine which has note of Lychee, Honey and Peony Rose. Very elegant but with a modern touch.
Also, for guys my favourite atm is Marc Jacobs Men which has fig and it is just so special, distinct and sophisticated on the skin. YSL L'Homme is sexy too.
I've been working as a fragrance consultant part time whilst studying in the last 4 years so I hope my info is helpful :)

  21. Hi Jen! =D
    I loved this tag!
I'm also so demanding when it comes to perfumes... But I'll check those scents out, because it might be good to me! Thanks!
In Japan there are tons of samples in department stores but I smell like, 10 different ones and then my nose is compromised, I can't feel any difference...haha that's why those ideas will help me to get the right samples next time!
I loved the descriptions on each one and most of all your kindness!! You're so cute!!!
My favorites are TOMMY GIRL(Tommy Hilfiger), LIGHT BLUE(Dolce and Gabbana) and Lost In Fantasy(Victoria's Secret)
I loved the video clip too you were in too! Downloading the song!
    Hehe!
    Well, that's it!
Check it out my blog when you could...
    See u soon!

  26. You are so right about "old lady" scents. I hate Chanel No. 5 like the plague because it smells all talcum-powdery and old lady like. I haven't tried all of the fragrances you mentioned, but I dislike Daisy passionately, too.

I'm desperately trying to find a fragrance I like to be my signature scent but I keep coming up empty handed.

  27. Hahaha "and I think it kind of smells like foot on me" That made me laugh :D
I'm also very picky when it comes to parfume but give me anything that smells like vanilla and I'll probably love it!

  28. you and I have very similar tastes in scents! I wear Marc Jacobs Daisy or J'adore Dior every day. Thanks for the recs, I'll check out your other fragrances. I may have to do this tag too :)

  34. My all time favorite is Chanel No. 19. It's got a lot of floral hues, but it is extremely heavy. It isn't a perfume I can wear during the summer months. The humidity here in Florida makes it so strong I can be smelled a mile away. The same goes for Chanel No. 22, another favorite of mine. Those are my two winter fragrances.

For summer I have been alternating through the original Harajuku Lovers collection. G is my favorite, though Love is something light with a bit of tang that I wear to work.

Of course Aqua Di Gio is probably my favorite male scent. My boyfriend wears it, as does my best friend. It's not unusual for me to spray some on myself so I smell like him all day, haha.

I tried the Paris Hilton a few years back, but it has absolutely no staying power on my skin. The smell is lovely, though.

  35. For some reason I always feel like perfume is "too much" on me. I'd love to wear them but I rarely do because I feel like the scents are really strong. Or maybe it's just my sensitive nose :P

By the way, new Unii palettes are out! Some new colours, and now the palette itself is magnetized! I've already ordered one hehe :) this will be my first.

  38. I've been using Ralph Lauren's Ralph since the beginning of high school... and I'm 25 now. It also has a fruity-floral fragrance and I get lots of compliments when I wear it. I am, however, ready to branch out and try some new scents. Because I don't like really strong perfumes either, I'm gonna give your suggestions all a try ;) Thanks Jen! You're my idol!

  39. Hi Jen! My first time here ^^
If you like wearable frangrances, you may try Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, I don't know why it smells like a garden to me.
I have a suggestion for your hubby too: Versace Pour Homme, it reminds me of acqua di gio, but it's more classic and fresh.

  40. Currently, I'm using Calvin Klein's "Beauty" (or "Beautiful" in some places) a floral scent, its sophisticated, cool and classy. My work scent. However, it has been described as nondescript and "old lady" ish. Guess it depends on the chemistry.

Givenchy's Irresistible Intense is my heady, seductress, cold weather/night wear scent. Not a scent I would normally go for - very strong and heady, but there's something addictive about it...

Miss Dior, Cherie, this is a dangerous scent. It's strong, and in hot weather it's probably cloying, but I like it, and it's long lasting. You should perhaps give Cherie L'eau a try, it's milder, more of a green scent, but still gently floral.

And finally, my personal fave...the original DKNY Be Delicious. I just hate how so many people wear it! Argh!

  41. Bravo! I'm thrilled you posted this tag! I had actually requested it and..tadamm!!! My favorites lately are Burbery : it opens up with burst of fresh fruit: peach, apricot, cool pear and black currant. The heart is a woodsy floral , composed of sharp jasmin notes combined with sandalwood and cedar. The drydown is all about warm musk and a delicate touch of vanilla... This is a soother: I get so many compliments on this scent!! The lasting power is awesome, it leaves a warm sillage. I find it to be elegant, understated yet potent. Perfect for fall or winter: it wraps me up like a cashmere blanket and lifts my spirits like hot cocoa xxx thanx for this tag!!! rosie

  45. I'm not a giant perfume person either, and this video is great for me because I also adore not-too-heavy, fruity-floral scents. A perfume I wear a lot is Fresh "Sugar Lychee" - which, admittedly, doesn't have a lot of floral, but it smells really fresh and clean to my nose. Speaking of D&G #3, I actually smelled it at Sephora ~a month and fell in love with the top notes, but I'm still hesitating on buying the giant bottle because I'm not sure if I'm as crazy about the base notes. I think I'll ask for a sample the next time I'm there and give it a proper trial period.
