Manicure Monday: Sally Hansen Strobe Light

6:00 AM

Happy New Years Eve (or New Years, depending on where you are located)! As the year comes to a close it only makes sense to celebrate it in a sparkling and festive way. I actually needed to record a New Years makeup tutorial so I knew my nails should be something that would match the mood as well. As I looked through my nail drawer, this lovely polish caught my eye.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear nail color in Strobe Light is a show-stopping polish with a mixture of rosy pink glitter infused with medium and small holographic circles in a clear base. I've only ever worn this polish over other colors since I'm usually impatient to remove layers of glitter, but I decided this was a special occasion and I wanted the full glitter-bomb impact!

Here I used CND Stickey Base with 4 coats of Strobe Light, topped with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. The coverage after 4 was dense enough to appear decently opaque in real life and really gives it that wow factor that you don't really get with less layers. This was one of those "go big or go home" kind of moments and since glitter polish is very forgiving of imperfections, it wasn't a pain in the butt to add extra coats.

This is a true glitter polish so there is some texture to the finish even after top coat but not enough to snag and would probably be remedied by an extra coat of Seche Vite. I'm also a big fan of the flat wand Sally Hansen polishes have since it makes for a less gloopy application.

Overall, I am in LOVE with the final look! It's such a feminine, pretty color that is very wearable considering it's a glitter polish. The shade really compliments my skintone and I couldn't be happier with my New Years choice. :)

Do you love or hate glitters? What polish are you wearing for New Years Eve parties? Let me know in the comments!

  1. love this look. like you I'm impatient and don't mess with glitter since its so hard to get them off which means more acetone on my Nails which means weaker and dryer Nails

    1. Have you tried foil wraps? Soak cotton balls in acetone and pull it apart into small sections that cover each nail completely. Then, use pieces of foil to wrap each nail so it's pretty air-tight. Leave that on for about 5 minutes, then wiggle off the wrap and it should remove easily! Should I do a video on it? :)

  6. Have you heard of the glue base coat method for glitter removal? Just get some elmer's/pva glue and use it in place of a basecoat. Let it dry for a couple minutes and do the rest of your mani as normal. Whenever you are ready to remove just peel it off! I use this all the time and love it because I can wear as much glitter as I want with hardly any effort in removal. Hope that helps someone! :)

    1. Certain colors tend to stain nails in my experience, like certain reds and greens. Make sure you use a base coat each time you paint your nails to avoid most stains, but sometimes it seems inevitable!

  11. How was the dry time on this Jen? I'd really like to get this but I don't like to wait too long in between coats--especially if it takes 4 coats to get this kind of coverage.

    1. I feel like the dry time was typical-to-quicker than normal. Because it has a clear base it seems like it doesn't take too long!
