Manicure Monday: OPI Liquid Sand "Get Your Number"

9:00 AM

I'm not sure why it is that I torture myself with trying to share with you guys the most difficult-to-capture polishes for my Mani Mondays, but today is yet again another polish that wows so much in person that photos of any kind simply don't do it justice. It's not just my photos, it's literally every photo of this polish on the internet. Still images just don't twinkle like Get Your Number from OPI's new Liquid Sand collection! It's a whole new look and texture compared to every other polish I've tried and I was pleasantly surprised by it.

I recently got to try out this frosty polish which belongs to my sister. She got the entire Liquid Sand collection and each one she tries, she has lovingly sent me cell phone pictures, going on and on about how unexpectedly love and unique each one is. I must say I was intrigued.

3 coats of this true blue polish were applied over CND Stickey Base with no top coat to retain the natural glitter-sand-matte effect. I thought it was a little pretty and a little weird on the first two coats but by the last one it really grew on me. Although I'm not typically a fan of this shade of blue and find it's actually quite unflattering on my skintone, it's the execution of the finish that really impressed me. It's a serious glitter bomb! Like the I-keep-staring-at-my-nails-in-traffic kind of glitter bomb. Like freshly fallen snowflakes glitter bomb. That coupled with a soft-concrete texture makes for a fun new nail experience.

I was actually a really huge skeptic when I heard about the entire "liquid sand" concept after being so disappointed with matte polishes in the past (Zoya Savita made it on 2010's Naughty List). The promo pics didn't look that appealing, I'm not too swayed by Mariah Carey being the star of the line, and I like my nails to be glossy, thankyouverymuch. Now? I'm eating my words. I'll be begging my sister to bring over the other 3 colors in the collection so I can share them with you. ;)

OPI's Liquid Sand Collection, as well as the rest of the Mariah Carey collaboration polishes will be available at retailers sometime this month. If you've seen them in stores already, please let me know!

Readers, what do you think of the Liquid Sand concept? Is it something you'd try? Do you like experimenting with polish finishes? What's your favorite finish? Let me know in the comments!

  2. Wow! That is such a neat color! It's hard to believe that it could look any more awesome in person, but I'll take your word for it! I am usually a fan of just plain gloss finishes in nail polishes...I love glitter polish but hate the removal process. I'm not sure that I would purchase this polish because of my love/hate relationship with glitter polishes but wouldn't be adverse to trying it if someone brought it over like your sister did! :D

  3. They sell these at Ulta already. I wasn't impressed with the swatches they had in stores. The Zoya Pixie Dust collection is something I would like to try out though.

    1. My sister had another Liquid Sand on when she came over and it seems like it's as hard to remove as other glitter polishes, which sucks, but I actually use a technique to remove glitters. I should make a video on it! :)

    1. I've never tried that product before so I can't say... If you try 2 new things, introduce them to your routine one at a time to make sure you know what is working or not working for your skin though!

  15. Yes I think it's very difficult to take nice pictures of this type of polish. I've taken a pic of a glitter manicure once...very hard to make the pic match the reality^^
Holographic polishes are very hard to swatch too...
I'm not sure to like it if it's textured.

  19. Such a unique polish and I love how blue it is. But does it snag on clothes and does it chip easy? Thanks for the post Jen :D

    1. This particular one doesn't have any snagging problems for me since the particles are smaller, but the pink/red version from the collection snags a bit from its star-shaped glitter. It's VERY anti-chipping, even with no top coat!
