March 2013 Beauty Favorites
9:00 AMIt's the beginning of April which means that it's time for another round-up of last month's favorite beauty products. Included this time are a couple of newly discovered face-enhancing base makeup products that I'm obsessed with and also a few reeeeaaally favorite nail products that you may remember from Manicure Mondays recently! Check it out below!
PRODUCTS MENTIONED:
ON ME:
necklace - My mom's vintage Avon zipper necklace (similar)
cross bracelets - Forever 21 and Hautelook (my invite)
nails - China Glaze Re-fresh Mint with CND Green Scene (my swatches)
foundation - Neutrogena Healthy Skin in Natural Beige
eyeshadow - LORAC Pro Palette
Basically, out of this month I have 2 huge favorites which I plan on doing full reviews of on the blog soon: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer and Benefit High Beam.
The Hourglass primer is honestly the first foundation primer that I've seen a significant difference from when I wear it and when I don't. Maybe I just never found the right primer before that really worked with my particular skin balance, but this one I used without really expecting to be wowed. I didn't realize until using it and not using it on back to back days just how much longer it made my foundation last without the greasiness or weird patchiness that can happen at the end of the day! Very impressed!
Benefit High Beam is of course a crowd favorite but it actually took me gifting the product to one of my BFFs that I remembered just how amazing it can look. Highlighters are once again going to be a huge Spring and Summer favorite for me and since my skin is drier than it used to be, this type of liquid highlighter is totally up my alley! It just gives the perfect fresh and glowy look to the skin that can't be matched by powder highlighters.
Readers, what is your foundation primer? Do you like powder or liquid highlighters? Let me know in the comments!

I usually like cream highlighters, but, during these warmer/ humid months here in Mumbai, I use powder highlighters. My fav is Dior Amber Diamond.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Amber Diamond!!! It's one of my powder highlighter favs too. :)
DeleteBecause of your recommendation Jen, I am in love with Lioele Auto eyebrow Pencil in Grey Black! It's been my favorite as far as eyebrow pencils and I've been continuing to buy them from Pretty & Cute (thanks to your rec as well!). :)

I use Laura Mercier (oil Free) foundation primer & Benefit the POREfessional Face Primer.
ReplyDeleteIf you like the Hourglass primer, you should try the Laura Mercier secret finish as a primer(not the primer they have, the secret finish). That one makes my face matte for longer than the hourglass one and my foundation looks smoother. The problem I have with the hourglass veil primer is that it has a slight tint of white colour which makes my foundation half a shade too bright on my face, can always balance it out with a bronzer but I think I prefer the LM secret finish, maybe you can ask a sample from sephora to try :)
ReplyDeleteI'll look into that one the next time I'm there!
DeleteHigh Beam is one of my favourite highlighters, if not my favourite. I'm a big fan of dewy, glowing skin and this does the trick every single time, never had any complications with it just perfection. They last forever too!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely prefer liquid highlights, then creams!
Fabulous post girl ❤

I have always wanted to try Benefit's High Beam, but I could never bring myself to buy it. I have been obsessed with theBalm's Mary Lou Manizer highlighter and I have always loved NYX powder highlighter. I also loooove the mint manicure you have going right now! I was in a mint mood as well for Easter, but I went with polka dots! ^__^ I actually never use a foundation primer. The one time I did, I used a Laura Mercier sample and it worked really great! I suppose if I ever purchased a full size primer it would be that one. ^^;
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely try a liquid highlighter! They seem to give a more "lit from within" kind of glow compared to powders. :)
DeleteAmazing products!

Do you have a tutorial on what lip color goes best with what eye look? I have all these lipsticks but idk what kind of look to pair it with. If you don't, could you please please please make one? That would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteUsually a good rule of thumb is that if you have a "statement" eye, you should go more nude or neutral on the lips and if you have bright lips, you should go more basic on the eyes. Obviously if you have an everyday neutral eye, you can usually go either way with lipstick!
DeleteThank you. I'll try it out. I want to do more bold lips but am always afraid of how it'd look. Thanks.
DeleteI've never tried benefits high beam. I do like Mac's strobe cream. You look stunning in your video x
