Manicure Monday: Etude House Ice Cream Nails #OR201 Grapefruit

9:00 AM

Happy Monday! I hope you guys are excited to see another Manicure Monday because I am so excited to share the next *few* with you. This one in particular is a Korean polish that has had a ton of beauty guru buzz over the last few months and I'm sure you can see why! Etude House came out with a line of ice cream-shaped polish bottles in a few irresistible candy-pastel shades including OR201, a peachy-orangecicle shade I picked up during my travel abroad. Lets check it out below.

Etude House Ice Cream Nails in Grapefruit comes in an adorable upside-down ice cream cone bottle which retails for (2,000 won) about $2 per polish. When I purchased mine there was a 1+1 deal going on which translates to "buy one get one free" so I bought 2 bottles for $2, a really stupidly inexpensive price for something so quaint.

Here I used a base coat of OPI Nail Envy with two coats of Etude House #OR201 and topped with Seche Vite. The color's English translation is aptly named Grapefruit which captures the brightness this shade has despite its creaminess.

Unfortunately, the application experience is not quite as nice as the shade or the cuteness of the bottle. The handle's cone shape is difficult to hold comfortably and is very lightweight plastic making balance for even coats challenging, although the brush is slightly wider to aid in application. The formula itself is thick and goopy as well, with a very strong chemical smell. The good news is that full coverage was completely achieved in two coats, coming as a pleasant surprise after a streaky application experience.

Overall, I love the color and creativity in bottle design but it definitely comes at a cost in polish quality and application. If you know this ahead of time, you might not be disappointed collecting it at this price. ;)

Readers, have you tried Etude House Ice Cream Nails polishes? Would you buy a nail polish based on the bottle design? Is polish quality or color more important to you? Let me know in the comments!

  2. I love this range of ice-cream nail polish from Etude House! I don't have this colour (T___T) but I totally love the turquoise one. It can be a lil hard to hold the cover during application, but for me the polish went on quite smoothly and was opaque enough in 1 coat. It did get rather gloopy after a while though, so I had to add some thinner to the bottle. >_<

  5. For being a thick and goopy polish, you made it turn out very well! I think i'd still buy it just for the packaging.

  9. This looks like the nail polish version of MAC's cremesheen glass in richer lusher. I love me some coral for summer! Very pretty nails, Jen :)

  10. Oh, as a nail polish junkie, I definitely purchase based on the color, but formula is also a deciding factor as well. I have a few colors I absolutely love, but have terrible formulas that are super thick and goopy T__T but I deal with it because I love the color payoff when it's all over lol. Lovely color and it looks great on you! <3 So glad you are posting again! I missed your MM's.

  14. Thanks for this post review! The nail color is so cute it's so tempting but the quality isn't that good so I'm still considering it. I hope there's other better alternatives out there that I can easily get in Malaysia.

  16. Jen you have such beautiful nails. Could you do a post on how you paint your nails? I am always left with streaky, uneven, and bubbly nail polish and I'm always wondering how the pros do it. Maybe I'm too impatient or apply my coats too thick but sheet marks and knicks always ensue no matter how long I leave it -___- Got any tips for a beautiful application? Video perhaps :D
