Manicure Monday: Urban Decay Nail Color in Blackheart

9:00 AM

Hey everyone! Today's Mani Monday is another Urban Decay nail color. It seems Urban Decay has decided to get back into the nail polish world by releasing 2 nail polishes each Spring and Fall season and Blackheart (which shares names with the eyeshadow shade in the Naked 3 Palette) is one of the holiday offerings. You guys know I love complex, hard-to-describe colors so it's no surprise that I was happily surprised after applying this one. Let's check out more about it below!

As with UD's previous two recent releases, Blackheart has the same sexy bottle with sleek gunmetal cap. This shade looked like it may be interesting but I kept my hopes low since past promises of duochrome sheen have fallen lower than expectations. I wanted to switch up my polish shade from my previous red and mint so I thought this greyish-purple-brown might be a nice Fall alternative to straight black polish and I'm so glad I was right!

It's almost hard to properly describe Blackheart. The eyeshadow version is clearly a matte black-brown with reddish glitters, however the nail polish version is quite a bit more sophisticated. Tones of grey and purple make up the base color while duochrome shimmers flashing green-to-gold create the effect of brown tones as well.

From afar, the effect is still neutral enough to match anything, but up close you can really appreciate how unique this shade really is. I had to share a second, slightly-blurred pic to convey the truly dynamic nature of this polish. *ooh, ahh*

Can you see what I mean about all the colors? Is it green? Gold? Red? Purple? Grey? Brown?

Aside from the very cool color itself, I found this shade to have a nice, opaque formula which covered perfectly in 2 coats with medium thickness. I used a base of Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab Base Coat, then Blackheart, and Seche Vite top coat to seal everything in. There were no problems with application and I can say that this is definitely my favorite UD polish to date!

Overall, I am loving how different this polish is from anything else I own. It's dark enough to look edgy but neutral enough that it matches every outfit. I can easily see this being my go-to black replacement to get me through the cooler months and it also doesn't hurt to mention that my polish color was a charming topic of conversation at a party, when asking friends to describe this color to the best of their ability. Every answer was different!

You can pick this shade up for $15 at urbandecay.com and soon at SephoraMacy's, and beauty.com.

Readers, will you be trying any of UD's new nail polishes? How would you describe this shade? Let me know in the comments below!

  10. That's a very pretty color, I'm wearing a very flat mousy brown from Illamasqua so I'm in on the brown thing but yours looks prettier! (PS I'm kind of fascinated by these pseudo-English spam comments!)

  12. This polish reminds me of an Illamasqua lemming, Facet, which is kinda like this shade from UD, brown-grey-based with a "lit-within" gold/copper shimmer. I am crazy over such shades atm! Though to be honest, I'm not so crazy about how Illamasqua polishes wear :|
