Manicure Monday: OPI The One That Got Away
9:00 AM
Lately, my mind has been marinating on the upcoming holidays. One of my favorite things about American Thanksgiving dinners is eating turkey with cranberry sauce which is exactly what today's Manicure Monday reminds me of. OPI's The One That Got Away is a gorgeous glass-flecked polish from the Katy Perry collection and stunningly Fall-appropriate color. Let's check it out below.
My eye gravitated toward this bottle because of the amazing, slightly multi-chromal shimmer. The chrome effect is much more pronounced in the bottle than on my nails, unfortunately, but the end result is so beautiful that I can forgive it.
On the nails, The One That Got Away becomes a highly reflective raspberry with shimmers glinting hot pink. It actually reminds me of stained glass due to its rich color and slight translucence.
Here I used a base of OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, 3 coats of The One That Got Away, and Seche Vite top coat. This was a thinner formula that applied easily with my favorite wide brush that OPI polishes have. Each layer also dried quickly.
Overall, I'm loving this polish on my nails as a gorgeous, not-quite-vampy shade. It has enough depth that it reminds me of gemstones and I have a feeling it will look lovely on every skintone. It may be a work-appropriate, but far from boring. Love!
Readers, are you a fan of Fall gemstone shades? What is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

My favorite OPI Color is Linkin Park After Dark. Have you tried Julep? I'm in love with their colors and a lot of the time you only need one coat and the color lasts a long time, especially on natural nails which tend to chip easier, or at least mine do.
ReplyDeleteNot usually a fan of cranberry shimmers but I love all of the gold here!

I agree! This one doesn't have that 90's vibe to it that makes it look dated. It's even prettier in person. :)
DeleteHey Jen, I just stumbled upon your blog today and I really love it!
ReplyDeleteThis might be a bit off-topic, but I love your hair! I'm a recent transplant to Los Angeles, and I've yet to find a good salon here that knows just how to work with my super fine Asian hair.
Where do you go? Any advice for finding a good salon for Asian hair in LA?
I actually haven't found a hair person in LA yet! I got my hair cut when I flew back to my hometown a few weeks ago. Hopefully a nice reader can give some helpful salon-finding tips!
DeleteThis is a gorgeous color!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the color so much! It's so pretty! It's perfect for holidays! Do you have a nail tutorial on youtube? I looked but couldn't find one. I love Seche Vite too! It's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have a super duper old one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Uv0ZcgMAEo
Delete:) Maybe I should make an updated one.
Pretty color. Suit for fall.

Hi Jen!
ReplyDeleteLove your MM post as usual! Just wanted to let you know about a new drugstore polish called Revlon Parfumerie if you haven't seen them already. I stumbled across it in a Fred Meyer the other day and bought a dupe of Deborah Lippmann Mermaid Dream. Opaque in 2 coats, and the best part is... ITS SCENTED! and the smell actually lasts all day after the varnish is dried! I tried to research it some online but its apparently only being previewed and figured you might want to take a look at them if you haven't already. Also... the bottles are to freaking die for! They look like miniature perfume bottles! so cute!

ReplyDeleteThat nail polish looks really nice! BUt I have to say the other glittery nail polish you just got, the expensive one you were looking forwards looks spectacular compared to this one

Hi Jen!
ReplyDeleteCould you do a tutorial on how you trim and shape your nails to such perfection? Your Manicure Monday series posts are awesome! But getting good polishes is one thing, having nice nails to start with is crucial! So yep!
This is my favorite from that Katy Perry collection. In the bottle and on swatches it doesn't look remarkable (been there, done that), but on my nails it is just so lovely.
