90's Kid Survey with Philip Wang!

9:00 AM

Hey guys! I wanted to take a short break from the beauty world to bring you a video that is just for fun. I saw the 90's Kid Tag going around Youtube a few months back and seriously, it just made me so filled with nostalgia and happy kid-memories that I couldn't NOT do this one. Am I right? Therefore I grabbed my fellow 90's kid-in-crime, Phil of Wong Fu Productions (yes, the very same WFP who created Away We Happened last year) and recruited him to walk down memory lane with me.

QUESTIONS:

1. Favorite TV show
2. Favorite Toy
3. Favorite Commercial
4. NSync or Backstreet Boys
5. Weirdest Fashion Trend
6. Favorite Collectables
7. Favorite Beanie Baby
8. How many Tamagotchi's did you go through?
9. Favorite Game Console + Game
10. Favorite Disney Movie
11. Favorite Music Artist
12. Favorite Nick Jr. show
13. Favorite Candy
14. Favorite Game (Board game, School game, etc.)
15. Favorite McDonald's Happy Meal Toy
16. Favorite Book
17. Favorite Clothing Store
18. What would you watch when you'd get home from school?

A few additional notes that didn't make the final video cut:

- We both stand in awe of the marketing genius behind Pogs
- I DO remember the Noozles after seeing this nose-booping koala intro!
- Remembering these Burger King silicone(?) puppets made my life

- Yes, I did watch Power Rangers. Looking back, boy did they typecast! lol!
- Did anyone else watch Kids Incorporated or Roundhouse?
- Ooooh, or Ghostwriter?
- OR WISHBONE?
- No children's cartoons have ever compared to the powerhouse duo that was Tiny Toons and Animaniacs. I still can't get over how these ever stopped airing.

- As far as weird toy trends go, Trolls were pretty odd, and I definitely had a couple including a large one with blue hair that I adored.
- Please tell me someone here remembers Magic Nursery Babies! They had a dissolving vest and inside it told you if you had a boy or girl. I also had the triplets and they were my faaaaavorite!

- Two words. Dream Phone.
- Neon biker shorts were a serious thing
- I also loved miniature-sized toys like Quints, Littlest Pet Shop, and Polly Pocket

- I owned a purple Game Boy Color with the original Pokemon Red game, Zelda, and Tetris
- Shoe trends that were really cool: Airwalks, Adidas Sambas, Platform Sneakers à la Spice Girls, Platform Flip Flops, Birkenstocks, and Dr. Martens

- I dreamed of being/dressing like Cher in Clueless and also Aaliyah
- Mariah Carey x Boyz II Men = "One Sweet Day" musical perfection
- Speaking of music, I played the following on my Magnavox portable CD player non-stop: TLC, Ace of Base, Real McCoy, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Hanson, DC Talk, Spice Girls, and the Backstreet Boys

Okay now that I've properly made myself feel "well-marinated in adulthood" (aka old-ish) on the eve of my birthday, I hope you all enjoyed going back in time with me and reliving some happy childhood memories!

Since I'm positive I've missed something in the recesses of my past, please "do me a solid" and let me know in the comments a toy, tv show, music, fashion, etc that makes you squee to think about again! Nothing would bring a bigger smile to my face. ;)

    1. Skip-it was my favorite!!!! Wow, I can't believe I didn't remember to include that in my video. I had a pink one. Did you also have a Ribbon Dancer? I loved pretending like I was a rhythmic gymnast. :D

    2. I remember I always wanted a Ribbon Dancer but never had it! I loved watching the commercials and the cool looking moves those girls did lolz. I ended up making my own Ribbon Dancer with those long gift wrap rolls and ribbon from wrapping Christmas presents haha.

  2. Oh. My. God. You just brought back a WORLD of memories with those photos of the Land Before Time and Eureka's Castle puppets! Those were my bath toys for YEARS growing up. Sigh...

You nailed it with Tiny Toons and Animaniacs. Those were definitely my favorite shows growing up. I was so excited when they started re-airing them on The Hub recently! As for favorite commercials, um...does anyone else remember the commercials that came on Nickelodeon for those Pure Moods CDs?

Also: I'm totally going to see if I can find a Tamagotchi keychain and relive my youth. And some Ring Pops. I never met a Ring Pop I didn't like.

  5. Hahah such a fun interview and you looked very cute in your onesie :P
I used to be total Pokémon freak, even set my alarm clock extra early to watch the show before I had to go to school. And was also a total Dragonball Z fan (they aired that in my country in the late 90's I think).

  7. I thought I was a 90's kid till I saw this video (I was born in 91) and I guess I'm the 'pretend 90s kids' Phil was talking about :( Also, I grew up in Korea till 2000 and then moved to Canada so I wasn't experiencing the full North American 90's experience like the rest of my friends.. I have to say my 90's was dominated by groups like H.O.T and S.E.S, and shows like Cardcaptors, Pokemon, and Digimon. I did collect both Beanie Babies and Legos when I was in elementary though, and also YuGiOh cards (kinda embarrassing to admit but I had a pretty impressive deck. lol). I watched sooo much TV by using the excuse "I'm learning English" which was half true, but really, I just wanted to lay on the couch and do nothing but watch TV.

    Btw cute onesie Jen!

  8. I didn't buy a lot of music CD's when I was a lot younger, but I do remember getting the first two albums by both TLC and Spice Girls. I can't really answer the BSB vs NSync questions either though, cuz I was a huge fan of 98 Degrees instead! For TV shows, a few that stood out were Saved by the Bell (Zack Morris and A.C. Slater!), the original Beverly Hills 90210 (Dylan <3), and for cartoons I loved Tasmanian Devil and Animaniacs. As someone else mentioned, my favourite video games to play were a lot of the ones for the N64, as well as Final Fantasy 7 and 8. And I totally collected Beanie Babies! I still have a whole bookshelf full of them (almost 200 of them, I think!) in my old room at my parent's house! Ahhh, the nostalgia!
