Manicure Monday: Blue Argyle Nail Art

9:00 AM

Hey everyone! It's the last Manicure Monday this year before Christmas and I wanted to make sure my nails were properly festive for the season. You may remember that I did a cute Snowman Nail Art tutorial last year, so I thought a slightly broader concept would be fun this time around. When Elleandish's Sweater Weather nails recently came up in my blog feed, I knew argyle nails would be the perfect answer!

Here I used a base of OPI Nail Envy and 3 coats of OPI Blue My Mind. I then used Essie Chinchilly and St. Barths Blue (similar) for the diamonds and Zoya Trixie for the X accents. The sparkliness of Trixie really pops over the creme finish diamonds in a lovely way! To smooth out the nail art I used Seche Vite Top Coat which enhanced the shine of the manicure.

Since Elle already has a spectacular tutorial, I won't add too much other than to say it's so simple but looks way more complicated than it actually is. Just two diamonds and two Xs! I also recommend picking diamond colors that aren't distracting if the base shade is bright like mine here. Elle used a cream base with orange and purple diamonds which looks super cute as well.

For the polishes themselves, Blue My Mind was beautifully opaque at 3 coats. The diamonds each needed about 2 layers to look really filled in which would be less of an issue if the base were light. Definitely go with a foil-finish shade for the Xs like silver or gold since the shimmer plays so prettily across the top!

Overall I am IN LOVE with these argyle nails and will definitely have to try it again sometime. It almost looks like those sticker nails but you can impress your friends by saying you DIY'd it instead. ;)

Readers, what do you think of argyle nails? What do you have on your nails for the holiday season? Let me know in the comments!
