NYFW: Badgley Mischka Fall 2014 Backstage

10:54 PM

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to do a non-traditional "Manicure Monday" to share with you one of the most exciting experiences of my life: going backstage at Badgley Mischka's New York Fashion Week show for their Fall '14 Ready-to-Wear collection. I cannot begin to say what an honor it was to not only be there in New York this year but to see first-hand the beautiful looks and preparation it took to get the girls runway ready for the big show.

I can't wait to share with you the hair, makeup, and nails of this beautiful collection!

First of all, I wanted to show you how insane it is backstage! There was a sea of makeup, hair, and nail artists filling every space as well as journalists, photographers and videographers trying to soak up every bit of insider info possible. Everything was frantic, as you can see by the guy's eyes in the photo I took.

I was invited backstage by the amazing team at Deborah Lippmann who I can't thank enough for allowing me to tag along. Here, the manicure was a gorgeous "luxe chrome pewter" from the DL fall 2014 collection called Take The A Train. Isn't the smooth satin finish to die for? I'm not kidding, it looked this cartoony-perfect in person.

To give the nails an extra special detail, Be Glitter And Gay was applied to the cuticle edge for a decadent half-moon mani.

With the gorgeous Deborah Lippmann herself! In her own words, "The nail inspiration was drawn from the Badgley Mischka concept of a Viennese princess leaving the ball and stopping at the club to visit her Russian boyfriend."

The makeup was created by Tom Pecheux for MAC Cosmetics which consisted of layering gold and black liquid liners with a glowing, peachy cheek and lip.

Tom was impossibly kind and humble, giving not only thorough and charismatic explanations of the look he created but also generous compliments. He reinforced my belief that great men and women get there not from a pompous attitude but from talent, hard work, and humility at every level.

The hair was sponsored by Moroccan Oil which was blown out, then slicked back into a sleek side-part with soft curls at the bottom.

The most fascinating part of this style was that they created a secret braid near the nape of the neck to connect the small sections of hair to. This way, the look stayed tightly and in place without many visible ties or clips.

Finally, here are a couple shots of the actual fashion show. The dresses were elaborately embellished while being classic and feminine. Coupled with the makeup, hair, and nails, the overall look was truly stunning.

I hope you guys enjoyed coming along with me on my NYFW journey! Thanks again to the Deborah Lippmann team for letting me come backstage to capture this amazing experience!

Readers, what did you like best: the hair, makeup, nails, or fashion of the Badgley Mischka show? Let me know in the comments!

  3. THAT'S SO COOL YOU WERE THERE!! It's especially neat that you've reviewed quite a few of Deborah Lippmann's polishes and then you got to meet her in person. Thanks for sharing your experience! Do you have pictures of what the hairstyle with the "secret" braid ended up like?
