February 2014 Beauty Favorites!
9:00 AMHey guys! Today I wanted to share my February Favorites. This month I had a couple of favorite new blush and lip products as well as a new regular foundation. Easy, go-to products we the name of the game for this past month since I did so much traveling, but I'm thankful because it gives me a chance to distill my product choices and know what I really love. Check out the video below!
PRODUCTS MENTIONED:
foundation | bareMinerals Original in Medium Beige
blush | Mac Riri "Good Girl Gone Bad"
blush | Clinique "Cheek Pop" Blush in Berry Pop (full review & swatches)
eyebrow pencil | Liole Artist Auto Eyebrow Pencil
lip tint balm | A'Pieu Kissable Tint Stick SPF14 PA+
cleansing sponge | boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge With Bamboo Charcoal
I know I talk a lot about liquid foundations but I wanted to mention a product that I always seem to cycle back to every couple of years: mineral foundation. I'm not new to minerals since it was the first foundation type I really got into back when I first started wearing it, but I am new to actually using the original brand Bare Minerals.
First of all, I really love the packaging of this compared to other mineral makeup brands since it makes it simple to add just a bit of foundation to the lid so you can swirl your brush in it. The plastic bit on top twists and locks open or closed. Mineral makeup is always messy so it's a huge bonus in my book.
The color I use is Medium Beige in the Original formula which is just barely tan on me but will be perfect during the spring and summer when I get a little more sunshine. It should be perfect for those with a MAC NC30 complexion.
I haven't tried the whole Bare Minerals system yet (primers? setting powders? blushes?) so I think those will be my next experiments. Maybe some of you Bare Minerals junkies can offer some advice for the best combination for a lasting, smooth look.
Readers, have you tried mineral makeup? If so, what brands? What are the best products to use in combination with mineral foundation? Let me know in the comments!

Bare Minerals is the best. I had cystic acne back in college. Once I got out of college in 93 I stopped wearing any liquid foundation and discovered Bare Escentuals, once I found it I was hooked, I very rarely get pimples, occasionally around my period I might get one or two, or sometimes if I do a detox I will get one, but it truly is amazing.
ReplyDeleteLove watching your favourites videos Jen, could you please provide some tips on how to find the right foundation for your skintone? Preferably when buying in drug stores =)

honestly as much as I would want to try mineral foundation I HATE loose powder! It's gotta be press for me to use it. I'm too messy/klutzy for that!
ReplyDeleteI tried Bare Minerals a month or so back thinking it would be great, but unfortunately it broke me out :( Boo! Happy to see that your skin is loving it (as are you)!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of people say that! It works for some people and there is something in it that breaks some people out. Sorry to hear it doesn't work for you!
DeleteI have really sensitive skin and mineral foundation is the only thing I can use without getting breakouts. I've never used Bare Minerals because I thought it was like any other mineral foundation but now I'm getting curious about it.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend loves bare minerals and it definitely works well for both sensitive and acne-prone skin. Personally I have never tried it but I heard many positive feed backs about it. Love your favorite vid, Jen! :)
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Sandy

Swear by Bare Minerals. I like the Matte. The original is has a bit of a sheen/shimmer in the powder. The Matte is perfect for every day. Simple swipes, and I'm set for the work day in an office setting (fine, plus some eyeliner!). Blends immediately into my skin and looks 100% natural. It's a huge improvement in blending my skin tone to be even.
ReplyDeleteThe Bare Minerals Prime Time foundation primer (for oil control) was no good for my oily skin. It's one of the cheaper choices at Sephora, but definitely not worth buying. :(
ReplyDeleteOk, good to know. Right now my fav foundation primer is the Hourglass Mineral one so I'll stick with it for now! :)
DeleteGorgeous as usual! :) Ciao!

Hi Jen! I love your videos and as a student, I often look at your reviews before buying something because I can't afford to buy them all! The one thing I think that's super important is eyebrow pencil/gel/powder cause defined eyebrows makes a face. But I don't know which ones to use, their benefits/disadvantages, etc. And although you've showed us quite a few eyebrow make up throughout your videos, they always keep changing and I'm still as confused. Would really appreciate it if you'll make a review on your favourite eyebrow make up (like you did the mascara one, which I enjoyed tremendously being Asian myself and having sparse shorter eyebrows) if you're looking for new video ideas (:
ReplyDeleteAhh, that's a great video idea. :) I'll add it to my list, but I will say my current brow favs are Lioele Artist Auto Eyebrow pencil in grey/black and Anastasia brow duo powder in brunette. I go for the Anastasia when my hair is browner and the Lioele when my hair is more black. I prefer powders lately since they give a more natural look. Hope that helps!
DeleteLaura Mercier is another good one! I did a review on that on my blog. :)

Hi Jen, thanks for the video as always!!! You look gorgeous and I love your nails! I'll def gotta try that eye liner!
ReplyDeleteBtw, I bought that Sigma Kabuki brush you talked about in another video, it is just AMAZING!!!!!
P.S.
Where do you buy your clothes? I'm 5'3 and weigh 108 lb, and it's not super hard to find clothes but sometimes it's such a pain in the butt. I've been wanting to buy some nice spring clothes but when I checked Nordstrom and Macy's, even their petite section didn't help that much. Thanks <3
I love love love bareminerals! I honestly haven't enjoyed the bare minerals face primer, but I love their bronzer and their eye shadows are pretty great! Also, I use golden medium for my foundation. It's great for asian skin. You may want to try that out, because it isn't as tan as the medium beige! Thanks for your blog. I love it and having your recommendations especially as a monolid asian! I love you!

I love your nails! Would you do a tutorial? xxx
ReplyDeleteI swear by bareminerals. I don't usually wear that much makeup, but everyday I just use the medium beige foundation over my eyes and around my nose for some concealing and I'm done. I have realized that you only need the foundation. If you want to conceal, you just use more of the product. I have a birth mark near my eye and it does a good job of concealing it. It is also lightweight, so it is comfortable for everyday. I'm lazy so sometimes I sleep in it, and never broke out. Their lip gloss is also surprisingly awesome. Most lip color products look weird on me, but I am able to use their lip gloss and feel confident in it.
ReplyDeleteI work at BareMinerals. I like to use our new BB-Primer first, then the Original foundation and Summer Bisque concealer on the undereyes, the illuminating Mineral Veil (if you like a very glowy complexion, if not, the Hydrating one gives a nice natural complexion), then I use Skinny Dip (a bronzer, it's good for those that are in the light foundation shades) or Faux Tan (the loose bronzer, which is good for everyone) as a contour, as for a highlight I like using our eyeshadow Queen Phyllis, and lastly I use our loose blush (I find the colors prettier than the compact blushes, my favorites include Golden Gate, Hint, Joyous Jennifer, Aubergine, I'm Amused Rouge, Kiss, and Vintage Peach).
ReplyDeleteplease make a video on make up tutorial bareminerals products , thanks
