REVIEW & SWATCHES: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush

9:00 AM

Hey guys! Today I wanted to share with you a review on a blush that I've been rather smitten with lately. Hourglass, who is known especially for their fabulously glowing setting powders, came out with a line of corresponding Ambient Lighting Blushes which have the same finely milled texture and glowing appearance. Obviously this was going to be a huge cult hit from the get-go.

Um, can we just take a moment to appreciate the sexy gold marbling? Ahhh....

The shade I'm sharing today is Radiant Magenta which is a lovely hot pink with peach-gold veining in the pan. This is not just a spray-on shimmer overlay, but the actual product has the gold baked into the formula.

When it blends into the skin, the color transforms into a gorgeous rosy peach with very, very subtle gold shimmers. The shimmer is so finely dispersed that it's virtually undetectable on the cheeks but it does give the slightest natural glow.

You can see here that it looks like a matte blush but with just a little more life. The wear on me has also been really great and lasts throughout the day when other blushes would normally have faded. As far as blushes go, I'm not sure what else I'd ask for in an everyday blush!

As with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders, the formula is quite soft and if your brush or hand are too rough you'll get a lot of dust fallout. I don't see that problem translating to application and wear, but it's worth noting if you tend to be heavy-handed.

In particular, I've found that this pairs really well with powder foundations since it really glides right over any textures

Here I wore Radiant Magenta over my Bare Minerals Original Foundation. Overall, it's been a wonderful addition to my blush collection and definitely my go-to pink blush at the moment!

You can pick Hourglass Ambient Blushes up for $35 at Sephora, Net-a-Porter, and Barney's.

Readers, have you tried any of the Hourglass blushes? Which is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

  3. Such a pretty shade, I'm still contemplating on spending money on the blushes since I just bought the ambient lighting powder, veil primer AND foundation!! So far I'm loving Hourglass though. Maybe I should splurge before the sale is over !

  5. Haven't even heard of this brand before, but am now tempted to try! Have you ever sampled Stila's Convertible Color (blush + lip color)? I've found it super easy to use, and the Peony shade is beautiful. I highly recommend!

  9. Thank you so much for this post! I have heard rave reviews on these blushes but have been hesitant to buy one because I wasn't sure what color I would like the best and the ones I have seen swatches of, the colors are just too bold for me. This color looks perfect and so glow-y on your skin that I might just have to take the plunge and buy it!

    love always, Tanka

  14. Been debating whether to go for one of these or one of the Clinique blushes. If the shimmer is very subtle, it definitely helps put aside some worries about this blush.

    1. Texture is the main difference between this and the Clinique Cheek Pops. Hourglass is more powdery whereas Cheek Pop is almost like a baked cream-powder. Hourglass sits over skin texture and Clinique gives translucent color. I like them both based on my mood, but they are VERY different!

  17. There have been many other blogs that have talked about these terrific blushes, so I finally bought one and am SOOOO happy with it. I purchased Dim Infusion (looking for a soft peach) and it was exactly what I needed. Excellent purchase without a doubt.
