TUTORIAL: Urban Decay Smoky Palette Makeup

3:00 PM

Today I wanted to share a tutorial using none other than the totally sexy Urban Decay Smoky Palette which I previously reviewed here. Although there are a variety of looks that you can create with this palette, I thought it would only be appropriate to share its namesake look: the smoky eye.

This smoky is very red carpet glamorous but not too over-the top so I consider it more of an everyday smoky you'd wear on a date night or going to a special event.

Yes mom, you can wear red lips with a smoky eye! *teenage angst*

Step-by-step tutorial video:

Here you can see I kept the darkest part of the shadow fairly close to my lash/crease line so it doesn't overwhelm my hooded eyes. Therein lies the trick to balancing a bold lip and bold eye! Even

The brown transition shade really adds a softness to the deep charcoal on the main part of the lid.

Can I just say that this particular red is SO gorgeous? Urban Decay's 69 is one of those universal deep reds that will match most skintones so if you want something really sexy but haven't picked out the perfect red, it should definitely be on your list of reds to try.

Readers, have you ever tried smoky eyes with bold lips? Do you have a different technique for applying smoky eyes? Let me know in the comments!

for the lips I think I'd choose a nudy beige color because I'm really into this this season but I love how you're rocking the everyday glamorous look^^

    1. You could honestly pair this look with almost any lip color! It's really versatile since it's neutral and smoky but not "too much". Nude would be a gorgeous classic for sure! :)

  2. Really pretty but I have never seen falsies applied above the lash line. That kind of blew my mind. Won't people see lashes coming out of your eyelid?

    1. It depends on your eye shape! Since I have monolids, my crease sits right by my lashes so the lash band doesn't show up as much, but for those who have a higher crease or large eyes I like applying the lashes as close to the lash line as possible. I definitely recommend a very black, matte liner if you try the angled false lashes technique though!

  4. Hey Jen! Love all your videos! Could you do an updated video or blog post about your favorite false lashes? I'm asian and am having a hard time finding lashes that aren't so ridiculous looking. Thanks!!

Love your tutorials Jen..if it wasn't for you I wouldn't know how to wear makeup lol

  9. Whenever I wear the naked eyeshadows it always runs on me and I end up looking like a raccoon. Is the primer the key to preventing this? And waterproof mascara and eyeliners don't work on me either. I love the smoky eye lol but I'm worried it'll run at the end of the night
