What's In My Travel Makeup Bag?
5:54 PMHi everyone! So I am still coming back down to Earth from the wave of travel and excitement that ensued during my California trip, so hopefully you won't get sick of the upcoming loads of Cali stuff that I still have yet to blog.
Taking a step back into the travelling world, here's another post for you lovely creepsters who want to know what stuff I carry with me in my travel cosmetics bag. ;)
Products mentioned:

Josie Maran My Favorite Powders Palette (Josie Maran Eye Love You Palette)

Mini Josie Maran Argan Oil
Atomizer from Nordstrom (D&G 3 L'Imperatrice)
Purell Hand Sanitizer
So I do want to mention a few things that I forgot to include in my video. First of all, the brushes I brought with me are the Makeup Show brushes that I mentioned in my June Hits & Misses. Since they had their own travel case, they weren't inside my travel cosmetics pouch.
Second, I did have a few more liquidy things that I had in an in-suitcase bag like my sunscreen, lotion, shampoo & conditioner, etc. For these, I took travel sized items or I depotted them into travel containers. Although you can take larger amounts than 3oz of liquid in checked luggage, it seriously helps for staying under the 50lbs luggage weight limit that most airlines have.
image from the TSA website
Example items to put in the clear quart baggie:
- lipgloss
- hand sanitizer
- serum/lotion
- contact lens solution
- toothpaste
- eyedrops
- liquid foundation/concealer
- contact lenses
- perfume
- liquid eyeliner
- liquid eyeshadow/foundation primers
- eyelash glue
For me, when there was a question of if something was liquid or not, I went ahead and put it in the clear bag. Better to be safe than stopped, right? Plus, I actually had plenty of space left over in my clear quart bag.
I hope that was helpful for those of you who plan on travelling soon! I know that for me, packing took a lot longer than I thought it would so I'll definitely be better prepared for my next trip.
To wrap up, I want to share a little fun fact: I have yet to be scanned/patted at any airport thus far. All of my flight companions are never so lucky. It may be because I travel in leggings and a t-shirt so I don't have much to hide, but I like to think it's because of my undeniable charm when I wink at the security man/woman.
Just kidding, it's totally because I'm so intimidating they wouldn't dare ask.
Yeah, that's it.

I felt obliged to blog about it cos it's so good. I even mentioned your name and site in gratitude of introducing this to me.

Thank you! This is so useful!! The rules for taking liquids is similar in Australia. I've never gotten picked up for my makeup yet though.
ReplyDeleteI totally got the Panasonic Heated Eyelash Curler because of you! First, I bought the Sephora brand one and liked it okay, but Panasonic gets so much hotter because it uses a AA battery instead of the wimpy AAA in the the Sephora heater. I use the Panasonic eyelash heated curler everyday, and with the right mascara, I look like I have falsies on! Also, keeping small amounts of liquids/gels in contact lens cases is such a good idea! I was looking for something just like that for traveling. Thanks for being such a great blogger!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletehi Jen... got a question totally unrelated to travel makeup bag... how do you make sure the make up on both eyes are almost the same? i always got this problem that one eye looks nicer than the other, be it as shadow, eyelid tapes or falsies...
ReplyDeletelove love LOVED the idea of using your cute contact lens box as a travel tool (i.e. holding some makeup). i threw away one of those cute hippo ones since they say you should use different boxes for your lens. :( plus, i travel ALL the time, and this is the best idea ever to carry travel-size stuff without always buying the mini-bottles. thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI am really interested in the Josie Maran palette! That looks great for travel! I just got the sample of the argan oil from Sephora...loving it!!
ReplyDeleteNo scanner or pat down?! Lucky girl! :p
My five year old said, "She's already so beautiful she doesn't need to wear makeup!" He already knows how to talk to the ladies. :)
ReplyDeleteIn my experience, contact lenses and eye drops are exempt from the 3-1-1 policy. I have been told on more than one occasion that I could keep my contact lenses and eye drops in my purse. Just FYI but it is better to be safe then sorry. One of the most irritating things that I can imagine happening would be losing my contacts/solution!

ReplyDeleteThe most annoying thing about traveling is that different airports can't seem to agree on the oz limit for liquids! Some say 1oz, some say 3, and the Vegas airport allows 6 oz! I hate how they tell me one thing, and I pack for it, and it's a completely different story flying home. But I guess 3oz is official since you got it off the TSA site.
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute! It's always such a joy to read your post :) BTW, thanks for the contact case idea, it works great!!
ReplyDeleteoooh I love this post! It's great knowing what you bring with you. The stila palette looks amazing! and so does the josie palette!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, I love your tips!! thank you for sharing with us your travel makeup bag video! :D wish the stila barbie is out again
ReplyDeleteHi Jen,

Tutorial Request! I'd love to see a tutorial on Jia's eye makeup in miss A's new music vidoe for "Good Bye Baby." It's a great look for monolids *and* double eyelids. Thanks :)
ReplyDeletespeaking of travel, i'm going to Korea for a week, so I was wondering, since I'm not that familliar with Korean make-up but would love try some, if you have any suggestions for good make-up brands to pick up while i'm there. Also any good skincare?
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance, and love all your vids! Always amazing tips ^^
I LOVE your hair in this video! How did you get that color and that wave?? I've been trying to get my hair that color for YEARS. I even went to an upscale salon and spent $200 to get that hair color to no avail. Thanks Jen!
ReplyDeleteI love my Harajuku Lovers organizer too - functional and cute at the same time :) And thanks for sharing the 311 tip - I always forget what the specific requirements are for bringing liquids.
ReplyDeleteThe contact lens case tip is awesome!! I hate carrying too much on to planes but I still want to have a few essentials :)
ReplyDeletePlease check me out :) at ykhearts.blogspot.com
Hi Jen! Random question, but how often do you throw away makeup? Since you are so sensitive to products, I was wondering if you are super strict about following those guidelines. Makeup is just so expensive, its hard to trash it.
ReplyDeleteJen!! I totally found you on Soompi! By pure accident, too. I was browsing the Ugly Duckling to Beautiful Swan thread, and a saw a post with a girl who looked exactly like you! Bliss Kiss. Haha. I was super proud of myself for recognizing you. :p
ReplyDeleteSo irrelevant to the post but...
ReplyDeleteis it the make-up? or did you get more tanned? lol
Jen, thank you for the tips! I like your eye make up in this video. If you have a chance, please do tutorial for this look.
ReplyDeletethank you!!
I love the contacts case idea. I will definitely use it for my upcoming trip.
