IU "Real" Good Day Makeup Tutorial

Hi everyone! I have yet another Kpop-inspired tutorial to share with you today. It's one I recorded kind of a while ago and like last time, I had some troubles with the lighting. This always makes me hesitant to post since I want to produce really nice quality for you guys but -sigh- sometimes I feel like I put so much work into it, I might as well post.

In real life, I was super happy with how this look turned out. I don't think I look like IU myself, but the makeup on this look isn't too heavy and it's quite wearable minus the random lash wispies. It's very Springtime chic! The orange cheeks are unusual but so on-point with the orangey trends this season, no?

Products mentioned:
Paul & Joe Protective Fluid Foundation #15
Mac Select Coverup Concealer (NC30 mixed with NW15 to lighten it)
MAC Blot Powder in Medium Dark
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Urban Decay Naked Palette (Buck, Darkhorse, Virgin)
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack
Shu Uemura Lash curler
FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen mascara
Sugar lashes (sorry, these were discontinued long ago)
Pretty & Cute Synthetic Lashes in Victoria (dramatic lashes)
Individual lashes from Sasa
Darkness lash glue
NYX Blush in Cinnamon
Ardell Lash & Brow Growth Accelerator
Lioele Real Vivid Matte lipstick in Sandy Beige
Rimmel lipstick in Airy Fairy

Here are the photos of IU that inspired this look. She's so ethereal like a wood nymph, I fell in love with the look right away!

And here are photos of my rendition:

And I decided to add one extra nerdy gif just because I had so many people say I look like IU as Pilsook in Dream High when I wear my nerd glasses. HAH!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! I have some more photos that I took with this makeup while wearing my regular clothes (because I liked this look so much) that I'll have to post next time. I just don't pull off the all-red sweater as well as the doll-like IU! My face is much more angular and she has softer features than me in general as well, so for some reason I give off a more "sexy" attitude with this makeup. LOL! You'll just have to wait and see next time...

;D

Disclaimer: Lioele lipstick and dramatic lashes provided by Pretty & Cute. FAIRYDROPS mascara provided by the company. Everything else I bought with my own money. :)

Boston Vlog! Oysters, Owls and Falling Over

Ahh, I love looking back through vacation pics and reliving all the good memories of being there! I finally was able to gather all of my pics from my short Boston trip and some vlogging clips that I randomly took. :D

I hope that from this video, you can see how much fun I had not in just "getting away" to a different city, but enjoying all of the little things along the way from subways to shabu, outlet malls, and owls. Hehehe.

Here are some pics that I took:

Our view of the coast from the plane.

First meal the evening we got in. Shabu with gorgeous Jean of Extra Petite! Steam in our faces!

Drool... Look at all that food!

Me being a novice at shabu-ing. I only had it once before in Korea years ago and this was pretty different.

The next morning we got up bright and early for outlet shopping. LOL!
Me, Hannah, Jean. You know we are so pro at posing. Work it, girl~

Trying on pretty lacy things in the fitting room. See how ginorm these are?
We both bought it anyway to alter. Check out Jean's beautiful post-altered dress here.

Caught up with petite blogger Vicky while outlet shopping!
Judging by this photo, would you believe we are all 5' and under?

Went to a seafood stop afterwards to satiate my desire to try raw oysters for the first time!
These guys are shucking our yummy meal. \o/

Jean documenting the action like a good blogger.

Soooo goood!

Our plate. I would describe the taste as being similar to boiled shrimp dipped in cocktail sauce. YUMS!

Digging in and blinged out with all my silver rings. :D

Homg, this was the RIDICULOUSLY good clam roll and onion rings. Wow. I am drooling just looking at this photo again. I'm not even a huge seafood person (I thought) but maybe I just never had this kind of seafood before. I'm totally a convert now!

In contrast, this is back to my snapshot camera with a more true-to-life depiction of how the slurping action actually went down. I got better at it the more I ate. XD

Dinner at Bon Chon Chicken which I had heard so much about. Crazy 1 hour+ wait, but goodness that fried chicken is to die for. O_O

Hannah had an internship in Boston a couple years ago and told me about this amazing clam chowder at Joe's American Bar & Grill. The bread bowl, people! It's excruciatingly soft, flaky, warm.... Happiness in food form. Definitely did not disappoint.

Pretty pretty presentation of our salad with seared tuna. Ughhhh, so good!

Another day in our hotel room, being silly after getting ready in the morning.

Met up with Jean again for lunch at Shabu Zen #2 in China Town. We conquered our food and also the nearby H&M shortly after this photo was taken. And almost fell a few times in the crowded subway on the way back. Maybe you caught on Twitter a funnier version of this photo? ;)

Obligatory touristy photo in front of the church at Copley Square. Such ornate architecture! I love.

And, I will leave you with one last photo of the ending of my last meal in Boston. A slice of the most amazing chocolate cake I've tasted in my life, courtesy of our charismatic waiter at Joe's. The best clam chowder, and I can verifiably also say the best chocolate cake. We ate half and finished it on the plane ride home because it was gigantic. ^____^

Eeeee, the trip was so wonderful I can't even tell you! I haven't taken a proper vacation in almost 3 years so this was a super fun getaway of just eating really great food, shopping, and spending time with some of my favorite girls. <3 <3 <3

Thank you so much to Hannah for letting me tag along with you and do extracurricular blogging along the way, and also to Jean (and "petite asian boy") for welcoming us into your place and showing us around your city. It wouldn't have been nearly as much fun without you. BIG HUGS!

A Personal Milestone

Trying not to cry. Failing. No words.

Thank you for all of your love and never-ending support. I couldn't be doing any of this without you. I never in my life dreamed I could reach 100k subscribers, I seriously mean that. I was so excited to get 10k 1 year ago in March, remember? I'm just a nobody "dorky girl" from the midwest and I have nothing more to give than my two hands and the tiniest bit of knowledge that I know and I am humbled to the ground that anyone would choose to subscribe to me.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, from my head to my toes. Thank you! I feel incredibly blessed and unworthy. I wish I could hug every one of you.

I'm going to go cry tears of joy into my pillow now and try to get sleep before work tomorrow.

Prom Tutorial: Adaptable Golden Purple

Oh, high school prom. If only I could go back and re-live my old prom days! It was a time when your biggest concern was if your hair would be curls down your back or an updo with braids. Honestly, I had a wonderful time at my old high school proms even though I didn't quite have the makeup skills I do now. ;)

I'll have to make it a point to dig up my old prom photos for some good laughs.

Until then, you will just have to endure this tutorial for prom makeup so you high school girls can get your dance on this year.

Products Used:
MAC Studio Sculpt foundation in NC30 (mixed w/ Skin79 hot pink bb cream to lighten it a bit)
MAC Select Cover-up Concealer
MAC Blot Powder in Medium Dark
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Inglot palette (AMC Shine 15, Pearl 439, Pearl 434, AMC 63, DS 467)
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack
Lash Expander Frame Plus Mascara
Forever 21 False Eyelashes
Rock & Republic Contrived Press Blush in Call Me
MAC 3D Glass in Racy

I was actually pleasantly surprised with these Forever 21 lashes. Usually when I see lashes this style they are too long but these are shorter and full, which is perfect for prom. They are a bit too much for everyday makeup but I think they add the right touch of drama for a special occasion.

I specifically wanted to do a look that would be adaptable for whatever colors will match your own dress, so I chose a bright purple as the main color so it would show up better on camera. I also have a golden peachy color on the inner half of the eyelids to brighten up the look.

I pulled my hair up to simulate how it would look with an updo. I actually like it better this way! It really shows off the eyes without all the distracting hair.

Big smiles!

Here are some of my personal tried-and-true tips for prom or other special occasions with lots of pictures:

1. Avoid foundation with high spf since this will give you a mask-face in photos.
2. Go for a matte finish on your face instead of satin or pearl so you don't look oily.
3. Use a highlight shade that is matte or nearly matte. This brings more attention to your eyes and not your brow bone.
4. Go for classic cheeks and lips. Heavy lipliner, dark lips, or overly contoured cheeks may haunt you years later. ;D
5. In your purse or clutch, keep it simple. Gloss and blotting sheets are lightweight and make for easy touch-ups.
6. Neutral shadows will always look great with bright dresses, and jewel-tone dresses really pop with a similar accent color in your shadow.
7. For neutral-colored dresses like black, grey, or gold, a neutral eye with bright lips looks really classy.
8. Be safe and have fun! No matter what happens, you will never regret dancing with the girls, laughing, and feeling beautiful on prom night.

I hope this tutorial was helpful! I know I wish I had youtube videos to help me out when I got ready for my prom (which was eons ago because I'm so darn OLD).

Let me know in the comments:
what your best (or worst) high school dance memory was
OR
what color and style your dress is if you are going to prom this year

I hear kids these days don't wear the giant, pouffy, floor-length princess dresses that we wore back when I was in high school. Loooooooooooooooooooooollllllllllyougirlsdon'tknowwhatyou'remissingouton. I am a pretty pretty princess!

Boston Haul: H&M and Urban Outfitters

I'm back from my trip to Boston and I must say, I had a really amazing time there! I haven't taken a proper vacation in years so it was a great relief to fly out somewhere with my friend Hannah and just eat really good food and, of course, SHOP! :D

Because I haven't ever been to an H&M and I had heard so much about how they have plenty to choose from in small sizes (I wear the smaller-fit size 2 there) I fully expected to haul quite a lot and luckily I wasn't disappointed.

Items mentioned:
H&M Divided Leopard-print billowy tank top - size 2 (similar here and here)
Pink Ralph Lauren kids' shorts - size 10 (similar here)
H&M White blazer - size 2 (similar here and here)
H&M Divided black cardigan - size 2 (similar here and here)
H&M Chambray shirt-dress - size 2 (similar here and here)
H&M Blue knit jacket - size 2 (similar petites here)
H&M printed skater dress - size 4 (skater dresses here and here)
H&M Divided tank dress in white - size 2 (similar here)
H&M Divided tank dress in brown - size 4 (similar at American Apparel here)
H&M Divided Lace "boho" dress - size 2 (similar here and sexy version here)
H&M geode ring - size 5 (it's big on me) (similar here and hyperventilating here and here)
Urban Outfitters nailpolish in Hangover (similar at F21 here)
H&M navy fluttery dress - size 2 (VERY similar here)

I didn't take many pics but I did snap this one in the fitting room of the navy dress while I was trying it on. I think I might get it hemmed shorter. What do you think?

I also posted pics onto my Twitter of my curiously blue-heavy haul here. Pretty weird for me. Nothing pink and lots of blue? I think the New England air was getting to me. ;)

Sadly, H&M doesn't have an online store yet (rumors say it will come out in 2012) but I will be anxiously awaiting for its arrival. So far my experiences with the store have been quite good. I made about 3 trips there while in Boston. ^_^

I still have quite a lot of footage from the actual trip to go through, so I'll be posting a little vlogging clip with cameos from sexy friends very soon, and hopefully also a "what's in my luggage" video. I also have a hair tutorial that I recorded right before this haul vid of my casual up-do since I got so many requests when I wore it the last few times here and here.

Now I am on a mission to do some major Spring cleaning. I already gathered a bunch of beauty and makeup products to donate to a local women's shelter (half a big box! eep!) and I need to get rid of lots of clothes because, for some reason, my wardrobe is trying to tell me to dress like a lady. What the heck is up with that?

*clings to plush Ice Bat Ugly Doll*

Pfft. Of course I didn't buy an Ice Bat while in Boston. Pshhhhht. Pfstttt.

March Hits & Misses

Whoo, April has gotten off the a super busy start! I can't believe how quickly this year is going by, seriously. I can barely even catch my breath. *wipes brow* I can't complain because I am a firm believer that it is better to be too busy than not busy enough.

I realized that I've tried quite a few new things recently so as promised, here is my very first Hits & Misses video, for the month of March.

Products mentioned:
Cargo Blu-ray HD powder in shades 20 and 30
Physicians Formula Mineral Wear blush in Blushing Glow
Lioele Crystal Muse Lipstick in #3 Juicy Orange
Lioele Blooming Gloss in Orange Sherbet
Lioele Dollish Vita Veil BB in purple
Origins VitaZing
Josie Maran My Favorite Argan Powders Palette
Josie Maran Natural Wonder Powder Palette

I realize that I didn't do a very good review of the Cargo powder because I literally didn't realize I had been using the wrong shade until I had started recording (oops, switched the packaging). I had been fully prepared to be all "oh hecks no" but I've been testing out 20 lately and it's been surprisingly good. I'll keep testing it more, so maybe it will make an encore appearance in my next Hits & Misses vid. ;)

Also, I'm not sure why I never realized I had such... interesting recording ticks. Does anyone else do that? I mean, I always had my "ummm"s and "so..." and "like" but seriously, duck face and lip smacking? *face palm*

LOL!

Anyway, I'm leaving for a little half-week vacay so I've got to go pack for my flight in the morning but I hope you enjoyed watching! I'll definitely try to make this a monthly thing as much as possible. I've already started a metal list of what will be included on the next one. ^_^

Just for kicks, tell me in the comments if you have a "tick" when you speak publicly or while recording yourself. Please tell me. Just so I don't feel like I'm the only one. XD

Review & Swatches: Josie Maran Argan Powder Palettes

So a couple months ago I got a message on Youtube from supposedly Josie Maran (you know, the model and owner of the cosmetics line of the same name) which I was slightly hesitant about. She said she was a fan of my videos, but seeing as there are many PR companies out there that may scour youtube for young gurus to pimp their products, I had to ask if it was actually her! When a PR rep actually e-mailed me in following up, I asked straight up if it was THE Josie Maran and to my surprise they actually said it was indeed her who had messaged me.

^_______________^ Hehehehe. Please excuse me while I have a short fit of giggles.

Say what you want about companies being all about the money; I still respect a company owner who would go out of her way to be personal in messaging people like that! I've been a fan of Josie ever since her modeling days so I am very much humbled that she would write to me.

Anyway, the e-mail from her PR "people" asked if I would like to choose a few things to review and I heartily agreed. I will go over some of the other items I tried in the future but today I want to share with you my favorites of the bunch, two all-in-one powder palettes.

The My Favorite Argan Powders palette was actually the very first thing I picked out from her whole product line. I had only read positive things about this palette from Makeup Alley, so I wanted to see for myself if it lived up to the rating. I love the ease of a palette but I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to multi-use palettes because it seems like there is always a fail or five folded into the package. Thankfully, this was not the case with this palette.

As you can see here, there is a nice range of neutral colors of shadows, one bronzer, and two blushes. I'm glad there weren't any random lip colors in there because I personally dislike lipsticks/glosses in palettes because they tend to be drying on the lips and I carry lip things separately with me anyhow. (Is this just me?)

Here's a swatch with no primers underneath. The shadows go on buttery smooth and surprisingly saturated. The clear winners are the chocolatey brown and the light copper. The matte brown on the far right could be more pigmented, but with a primer on the lid I've had zero problems with that shade as well. The only thing I would change about the shadows is that I wish the shimmery beige were slightly less shimmery and pink so it could be a more perfect brow bone highlight shade, but it's fine for highlighting inner eye corners and works on the brow bone with a light hand. What shocked me the most was how AWESOME the bronzer and blushes were! The texture is super creamy and all 3 colors were very flattering on my skin. Overall, I am in love with the fact that I actually use everything in this palette. Nothing is gone to waste, which is so rare!

Second up is the Natural Wonder Argan Powder Palette which I was drawn to for the gorgeous-looking shadow colors. They look so happy and vibrant in the packaging and I was really hoping for a lot of color payoff.

These colors went on buttery as well, but sadly some of the shades were not as amazing as with the My Favorite palette. The pink shade is a cute color for natural days and the purple is my favorite of this group which goes on a bright, true purple without the bluish reflection that a lot of my other purples have.
The teal is quite pretty and very smooth but definitely not as pigmented in 1 swipe as I expected. The gold is perfect for inner corners, but again, not at all right for the brow bone. The copper here is very nice and is warmer than on the neutral palette. The blushes, the left one especially, is very vibrant and more suited for those with warmer complexions but all 3 are nice.

cool natural light

I guess what made me the most sad about this palette is the fact that I would absolutely need other colors to balance this palette out. The shades themselves are nice but there is no highlight color and no contour/outer crease darker color. I would have gladly traded out the pink for another darker brown or even a charcoal grey to deepen the brighter shades, as well as the gold for a paler gold that would work for both the brow bone and inner eye corners.

Still, in conjunction the two palettes are pretty fantastic together. I've actually used both palettes at an abnormally high frequency since the texture is so darn nice and I will be taking both when I travel next weekend. I just wish they were a bit cheaper since my highly recommended Favorite palette runs $45 and the Natural Wonders is $35 and they aren't very large at only 4 x 2.4 inches. I forgot to take size comparison pics here, but I'll show them both in a future video so you can see. ;)

Here's an OOTD I did using mostly the My Favorite palette with a pop of the teal in the middle of the lid from the Natural Wonders palette, which mixed with the copper to create a pretty olive color. Notice how nice the blush/bronzer is (I used both here). Lips are just clear lip balm. Also, do you like my hat? Kitty ears! LOL!

*poke*
Sorry for the blurries but I didn't have another shot of the lid color!

If you were curious about these palettes then definitely check them out because you will NOT be disappointed. The neutral one especially is a big winner and stands out among the rest of my makeup collection which, I'm not gonna lie, is not an easy thing to do. It's just so easy when everything you need is right there and everything in the palette is high quality, all natural, and chemical free.

Anyway, as I said I do plan on doing a video including these... Maybe my very first "favorites" video? I've been toying with the idea of doing monthly favs since I find those videos super informative and helpful from others. What do you guys think? Favorites? Hits and Misses? Let me know in the comments what you prefer. :)

Disclaimer: Items in this post were sent to me for consideration by the company's PR. As always, these are my 100% honest opinions.
