March 2012 Beauty Favorites!

5:55 PM

I'm so glad it's almost April! This month has marked a clear change from Winter to Spring and some of my favorites have followed accordingly. For one, my skin has gone a little crazy (for reasons I talked more about in the video) but I've also transitioned some of my favorites into brighter, Spring-appropriate shades.

In the video I also talked a bit about my personalized Urban Decay Build Your Own Palette which I received on my trip to Urban Decay's Headquarters. I swatched each shade for you for those who wanted to see each color life-action style. What can I say, I only bring exciting things for you here at From Head To Toe. Haha.

Check out the video and products mentioned below!

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:

Silicone Pore Cleansing Pad
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer in Cream (new Lumi Touch Concealer)
NYX HD Eyeshadow Base (NYX potted eyeshadow base)
Elisha Coy Mineral Touch Velvet Blusher in 02 Sweet Orange
Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lipgloss in James and Colin
Urban Decay Build Your Own Palette (Virgin, Buck, Busted, X, Psychadelic Sister, and Loaded)
Revlon Whimsical Nailpolish

ON ME:

Shirt is from Forever 21 last year (similar plain/PINK)
Tank top is from J. Crew (similar/similar)
Nail polish is Revlon Whimsical

So some products I wanted to highlight from this month's video are (no surprise here) the Urban Decay eyeshadows that I chose to put in my palette.

Here I am giving my best "fighting" fist which contains all of my excitement. Yes.

The individual shadows come in this subway token-inspired pot.

The back shows the name of the shadow in the same color as the shadow itself, so it's easy to know which color it is. You can see the round seam of where you can push out the middle part to depot.

The shadow popped out!

And here are swatches of all the colors in my palette:
Loaded / Psychadelic Sister / X
Busted / Buck / Virgin

Also, just because it's funny, I wanted to add my favorite Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lipglosses in shades Colin and James. Colin (the firefighter on the left) is actually the boyfriend of famous fashion blogger Rumi of Fashion Toast!

Fun Fact: The names of the Pocket Rockets are actually the real names of the models featured on each cap. Another Fun Fact: If you tilt the holographic image, you get to see each guy in their undies. Teehee! ;)

Here are my swatches of the two shades. Colin is a nice tomato orange-red (which I have a sheer layer on in the video) while James is a gorgeous iridescent pink. The nice shimmer flash doesn't really show up on the lips but it does give a lovely pink flush which is perfect for everyday looks.

These can both be applied sheerly or thicker for more opacity but they aren't completely opaque. The formula is also super sticky which makes it generally longer-lasting but also hair-sticking if you are turned off by that. The biggest love it or hate it deal breaker is the smell. They straight up smell like cereal so if you don't mind that then definitely try it out! The scent thankfully doesn't last after application but it's something to note since it's so polarizing.

I'll definitely do a bigger post on all of the Pocket Rocket lipglosses that I own with lip swatches if you'd be interested. Let me know in the comments if that's something you'd like to see. :)

Anyway I hope you guys enjoyed this month's favorites! If you like my glowy face makeup here, I recorded a How to Apply Blush video which includes contoured blush and highlighting. I will try to edit and post that very soon for you guys so be sure to check back in!

  17. Ooo I love the UD Build Your Own palette. I like how you're able to pop the shadows in and out of the single containers so if you wanted to switch out colors, you can. love the colors you chose for yours :)

  18. Another awesome informative video! And I am very interested to hear how it is going with weaning yourself off of birth control. I'm on birth control for acne as well, I started it about 4 years ago. 2 years ago I decided to try to take a break, and I got the worst cystic acne. It was starting to scar my skin so I was forced to go back on birth control, and now I'm afraid to stop. Do you have a method of weaning yourself off, or did you just stop cold turkey?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I stopped when it was the beginning of the "off week" (aka period week) which I recommend other than stopping mid-cycle. Other than that, I stopped cold turkey. :)

  21. Oh my my, I absolutely love the palette you pick for Urban Decay. I just checked the Sephora website and they are not there yet. Wonder they are exclusive to the Urban Decay website for now. Anyway, will definitely watch out for that.

  22. The palette is super cute. I'm not sure if I can pull off the purple but I'm loving the green! I'm super jealous you got to visit the headqtr for UD! It must had been an eye opener!!

Please visit my blog if you have time. I started it recently so there's lots of room for improvement!

  23. I've always thought the UD lip glosses were too expensive for me, but I think I'm going to get one...that's named after my boyfriend, just for kicks. lol

  24. Hey, I'm from Brazil. Love your blog. It's so sad we don't have UD in here. I absolutely love UD products. =*

  25. Do you think it'd be possible to modify existing pots of UD shadows to fit into the new customisable palette? I've got a pot of Last Call (absolutely love that shade) that's still really new. I totally wanna get the palette, but I'll definitely want Last Call in it, and it seems a waste to buy another pot when my current one's so new. I don't use makeup very fast, so I wouldn't run out for some time yet. Any suggestions?

  28. Hi Jen, I'm interested in trying the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and I was wondering if you could tell me how long a bottle of product usually lasts for you. I realized that there are 2 layers of liquid in the bottle and you are only suppose to use the pink layer. Thanks so much!!

    1. I don't recall exactly but I want to say it lasts me at least a few months. Maybe 4-6 months per bottle?

  29. I have that same type of pore pad. I got mine @ sephora. I've been using it for the past month & it rocks. I also have that polish in whimsical as well & I adore it. Thanks so much for the UD info I'm so jealous you went to their HQ. What a girls dream to go and choose your own palette.

  30. I wish you had done a review on the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion earlier! I just bought some tea tree oil to use on my acne, but if that doesn't work I'm definitely going to try the drying lotion.

Just a quick question though, for your hair are you just using bobby pins and a hair tie to keep it up? It looks like a really well made bun and I know that you also have your hair layered so I was wondering if you had any tips on controlling the pieces of hair that sticks out when you put your hair in a bun.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I did the "sock bun" method which keeps stray hairs tucked in nicely. You can youtube it for tons of tutorials. :)

  31. I use the SAME silicone pore cleansing pad. I use the scrublet that goes with the Loreal go 360, I use this with my Murad. You can find it on sale and sometimes with a coupon from the Sunday paper, so you could get it for less than the $5 at Sephora.

  33. Hey Jen, I just purchased the Mario Badescu Dying Lotion today and I was just wondering if you knew what the difference is between the glass bottle and the plastic bottle? And also, why shouldn't you shake it? I mean, being in the bag shook it up but I think both the liquid and the sediment separated eventually. Now I'm paranoid that I've ruined it or something haha

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You haven't ruined it! Just let it sit for an hour or so and the pink part should settle to the bottom.

  34. Hi Jen! I was wondering if the Nars stick concealer is still your current favorite for hyper-pigmentation and old acne scars.I can't seem to find the maybelline mineral power concealer so I guess you were right about the discontinuation. :(

Also, I'd love to hear your opinion on the Smashbox pop ultimate palette, in case you've already tried it.
    Thanks Jen!
