Manicure Monday: Revlon Rich Raspberry

9:00 AM

Hey guys! Today's Manicure Monday post is dedicated to the newest polish in my collection, Revlon 250 Rich Raspberry. This is my first time trying out Revlon's new Colorstay line of nail varnishes and I was really looking forward to seeing how it would wear since I've heard so many positive reviews.

This particular shade is one that I haven't seen any reviews of and I was drawn to the creme finish with slightly purple undertones. I don't have any colors exactly like this in my collection, especially after the pre-move cosmetics purge of '12.

The color is gorgeous and classic and I definitely love it, but I honestly have mixed feelings about certain aspects of this polish.

The bottle is clean and simple and contains 11.7 mL (compared to OPI's 15mL and Layla's 10mL). It's selling for $7.99 where I purchased mine which seems a little pricey to me. Isn't $8 the normal price for OPI polish in the US already? I realize for international people $8 is nothing, but paying the same as OPI for a drugstore polish with less product surprised me.

The good thing is that being drugstore, there are frequent sales on Revlon which is what I took advantage of as well. Wait until a sale or coupon to buy these!

I applied a base of CND Stickey Base and 3 coats of Revlon Rich Raspberry with Seche Vite on top. The application itself was a little awkward because the brush on my polish was cut a little uneven. It has a flat wand and curved brush edge which I usually enjoy, but my brush was slightly pointed causing me to have to wiggle the brush to paint an even cuticle edge. Maybe I got a bad batch? Let me know in the comments if you've had this problem with Colorstay polishes before.

The actual polish itself applied beautifully and opaque in 2 coats. I did 3 because I love that super squishy, glossy look but 2 would be fine for most people. Colorstay polishes are known for this nice, shiny finish and I'm happy to say that it didn't disappoint. The wear on this polish has also been really nice although looking at these photos, I do feel like the color has darkened a bit. Still pretty, just slightly more purple.

Overall I'm glad I got this polish and I'd be open to trying more Revlon Colorstay colors, crossing fingers that I don't get another weird brush.

Readers, have you tried any Revlon Colorstay Polishes? Are there other shades you recommend? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I got Revlon Colorstay in Buttercup, it's a lovely pastel yellow. Unfortunately the formula disappointed me, maybe because it's a pastel. It seems to work with KONAD, but not on its own, so I'm thinking of adding Seche Vite Restore to it to thin it a bit at a later time. I didn't notice the pointy brush issue u had though, but maybe because I'm quite a noob at this! :P

    3. Hi Jen,

Wanted to ask you about your experience with Seche Vite Dry Fast top coat. I notice mine gets gloopy near half bottle, and despite adding Restore to it, it continues to screw up my manicures by not going on consistently as it used to when it was brand new. How do u deal with it, as the brush tends not to reach the top coat once the bottle reaches half or less its original size?

    4. I bought Seche Restore but haven't used it too much yet so I can't give a thorough review. I normally just tip the bottle to the side when it runs low and goopy and just endure the yuckiness! My top coat just ends up being thicker. ;)

  6. I actually have only one polish from this line so far...it is in Vintage Rose and I LOVE it. I am very fond of the quality of the polish and it definitely has a great opaque finish. The color you have is beautiful too! I actually don't think I have seen that color yet, so thanks for the review of it! As a matter of fact, I just did a review of the Vintage Rose on my blog if you're interested in seeing pictures! Great review!

  7. I haven't tried their Color Stay line but I love Revlon polishes, it's the only drugstore brand I use. The formula is really nice and they make a lot of dupes of higher end polishes.

  8. I love the color stay line. You need to try Rainforest. It's a hunter green with green glass flecks. The sparkle makes your nails look like emeralds. It's my favorite green of all time!!

  10. Hi Jen! I've tried my friend's in Coastal Surf and while the colour was gorgeous in 2 coats, it did have the same brush issue as you did! One of the bristles even fell off onto my nail which was quite sad, but brush aside, the shade i tried was really lovely:)

    1. Ooh darn I was hoping it was just me! I will probably still try more of the Colorstay polishes but just be really picky about the colors since it may be a recurring problem. Thanks for your input!

  17. Hi Jen! I have this color and I do like it a lot. The other two colors that I like from the ColorStay collection is Spanish Moss and Velvet Rope.

  18. That's such a lovely color. I might cave in :D

I love their formula (no chips, but they rather just wear off at the tips) but I have a major problem: the polish cracks after a couple days, even if I'm wearing their base & top coat.
That's the only gripe I've got.

Do you (or any readers) have the same problem as well?

Other than that, it's a pretty decent polish which I've recently grown fond to. I've got buttercup, marmalade, and barebones. They've got great shades that matches my olive skin tone, surprisingly!

  19. It's around $4.50 at Walmart or Target!!!
And I love the blueslate and spanish moss, they are so perfect for fall/winter!
