Manicure Monday: OPI Liquid Sand "Stay The Night"
9:00 AM
Hey everyone! So today's Manicure Monday is quite appropriate for the month of February because, whether you are spending Valentine's Day with a loved one or your best single ladies, it can totally match both moods. Just like the previous OPI Liquid Sand polishes I've tried (here and here) this one has an asphalt-textured, glitter matte finish however I find this shade to be much more age-appropriate for a variety of women and wearable than the both previously worn. How different is Stay The Night compared to the other two? Let's take a look.
Stay The Night is another OPI Liquid Sand polish from the Mariah Carey collection which looks like textured rubber with red glitter embedded in it. If you think about textured polish it seems like it would feel rough but these polishes actually have a rather nice feel to them. It's kind of like when you touch fabric and you can feel the grain but it's kind of soft at the same time.
Here I have 3 coats on over CND Stickey Base with no top coat. It did take a little longer to dry than the other two, not because it will smudge out of place but because it starts off with a slightly glossy finish which seems to evaporate after a couple minutes before it turns fully matte. Even in the close-up photos here I can see a barely-visible glossy sheen whereas my nails now have no gloss whatsoever. Keep this in mind when looking at swatches online! The best look for Stay The Night is definitely 100% matte. ;)
Here you can see the wicked red glitter in the polish bottle. In fact, the bottle makes it seem like it will be a red or vampy polish! The glitters are definitely in the polish just not as saturated as it may seem since the matte black is the dominant factor here. It's also interesting that after being worn a couple of days some of the red starts to wear off and silver glitters start to appear, which I found to be a fun transformation.
Out of all the liquid sands, this one is surprisingly my favorite because it's classic like black polish but the red glitter gives it some femininity and takes the edge off the harshness of total matte black. It matches every outfit I've worn as well so I can see myself wearing this again and again, even after the "liquid sand" trend is over.
Readers, have you tried any Liquid Sand polishes? Do you think black is a "classic" polish color? Let me know in the comments!

This one is my favorite liquid sand, for sure!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the Illamasqua Imperfection Freckle polishes? They look really cute -- like speckled bird's eggs.
ReplyDeleteNo I haven't! I'll have to check it out. :)
Deletewah, love the swatches, never knew OPI has this the sand line >.< boo me

I absolutely love that polish!!

I have one of them on right now - I love the color and texture but unfortunately it chips really quickly. Did mine on Saturday (base, 2 coats + top coat) and it looks like a 5 day old manicure already. I will probably take it off in the day or two and put it right back on since it is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's so strange! All the liquid sand polishes I've tried (blue, red, black) have had very impressive lasting power for me. This one has already been on for a few days and they still look nearly perfect other than growing out at the nail beds. It could be the polish reacting with your base coat or just your natural body chemistry!
DeleteHmmm didn't think about that - I will try sans base coat next time! (or maybe sans top coat)
DeleteI don't have anything "liquid sands" but the texture is really nice. Three coats look great.

These look so neat! Are they hard to remove though? They look like they'd be worse than glitter polish.
ReplyDeleteThey are about as bad as glitter polish but I'll do a video soon on how I remove them! :)
DeleteYes please!!!
DeleteI've never tried any liquid sand polishes yet, but I'm really tempted. I've been seeing some gorgeous swatches.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning texture! It looks great on you Jen.

Looking at it, it really does look like it has a rough texture so I'm surprised it feels like fabric and soft?? This polish looks great; I've been dying to try liquid sand polishes.

Yeah I don't know how else to describe it! I actually find it kind of fun to feel the texture on my nails while I'm wearing it. :)

ReplyDeleteJen! I love glitter nail polish but I HATE taking them off! How hard is this one? You have a trick for it? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI do have a trick! I'll be recording a vid on it soon. :)
DeleteHi Jen! Love your blog. Long time reader, rarely comment though. I've never seen this kind of textured polish before. Definitely have to try.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I've been seeing commercials lately for a new Maybelleine "sheer" lip gloss, which got me to thinking: I am a student and have a budget and can't afford a lot of the stuff I'd love to have (Urban Decay products, etc) so I've relied on your reviews of drug-store options. It'd be awesome to get your opinion on some of the new stuff out now!
Woow love it Jen !!!!

Hey Jen! i really like this type of polish but i have no idea how to remove it without sticking the glitter all over my hands and face... can you make a vid on how to remove this type of polish please? it would help a lot of slowpokes like me :P
ReplyDeleteStay awesome!
Love, Oana
Yes absolutely! I already plan on making one soon. :)
Deletei just tried the OPI liquid sand in the purple color and i don't know if i like it. It's very gritty in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI just tried out the purple OPI liquid sand color and the texture is a little werid to me. A bit too gritty.
ReplyDeletewhen they come back in stock on pretty and cute can you do a main monday on one of Etude House's Juicy Cocktail Gradation Nails please?
ReplyDeleteYes definitely! The pre-made gradation set is a cool concept. :)
DeleteI love it, must be a popular nail polish! And really weird to wear and feel for the first time.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that there is a mini-set of the Liquid Sand collection? My sister and I went to buy Liquid Sand at Beauty First. I really liked the teal color and she liked Stay The Night, so we were each going to spend $9 a bottle. Then we saw that there was a mini-set of all four for $13. This is a great option for people who want to try them all!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! That's a much more cost-effective way to try all the different colors for sure!
DeleteI bought the mini set, and I just wanna warn you that "the impossible" mini has no stars. Doesn't bother me but just wanted to give you a heads up in case you were counting on them. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis polish is my new favourite. I have all 4 shades of the collection. Going to try the purple one next. This has amazing staying power. I am on day 11 with only 1 small chip on my right pointer finger and I am not easy on my hands. Amazing! I do have 2 coats of OPI top coat on at the moment. But I didn't put it on until day 2 or 3 and I only did it to see how it changed it thinking I'd be needing to remove it in a day or so anyway. Not the case. Changing it tonight due to grow out only. Love it!
ReplyDeletedid you find the black faded after a couple of days? the red glitter started to go silver as you say but then my black went greyer after a hot bath, and again after washing the dishes (I know, should have worn gloves - but if you don't try you don't know!!) having said that I still LOVE Stay The Night
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty!!!
