Review: theBalm Nude 'Tude Palette

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes lately, theBalm's Nude 'tude palette. It seems like every company has come out with their version of the "Naked Palette" lately and while this is no exception, there are a few distinct differences that makes this palette a wonderful option for neutral lovers.

One of the most immediate differences you'll see between this and Urban Decay's Naked Palettes is the fact that the packaging is slimmer with a magnetic closure. It also has a large mirror, which makes it a great travel companion. There are 12 shades total and each shadow pan is smaller than in Naked, but the total cost of this palette is $36 versus UD's Naked at $50.

Sassy / Stubborn / Selfish
Snobby / Standoffish / Sultry

Sophisticated / Sexy / Serious
Schitzo / Silly / Sleek

Top Row:
Sassy - pigmented, frosty white

Stubborn - beigey peach satin
Selfish - taupe satin
Sophisticated - olive-brown with gold microglitters
Sexy - matte burnt burgundy (my favorite!)
Serious - matte black

Bottom Row:
Snobby - frosty champagne-gold
Standoffish - pigemented, frosty peach-beige
Sultry - matte tanned brown (swatches cooler than it looks in pan)
Schitzo - satin bronze
Silly - matte deep brown with red & gold glitters
Sleek - matte chocolate brown

This was my first time trying out eyeshadows from theBalm and I have to say that I've been very impressed. As you can see in the swatch, the shades are all very soft and pigmented and definitely compare in quality to the best eyeshadows out there.

I love the matte shades in this collection including the deep red "Sexy" shade which actually looks much more neutral and wearable on an everyday basis as I showed in this Smokey Eye Tutorial. They also have the obligatory medium brown blending shade Sultry, which is less warm than Urban Decay Buck but serves the same purpose.

The only missing piece I've found while using just this palette is that there isn't a good highlight shade. Sassy (top left) is perfect for inner eye corners, but would be too pigmented and distracting on the brow bone. Stubborn (second from top left) works in a pinch if you are medium or dark skinned, but on fairer skintones it would definitely look too pink. The gold shade "Snobby" also doesn't seem to be quite as smooth and pigmented as the rest. Otherwise, the consistency and pigmentation of all the shadows are quite nice and easy to work with!

You can find the Nude Tude palette here for $36 but I've also seen it randomly pop up on Hautelook or TJ Maxx and Marshall's for a discount.

Readers, have you tried theBalm products before? Is there anything you recommend? What is your favorite neutral palette? Let me know in the comments!

  1. hey jen! i recently purchased the Balm's cream concealer and it's the best concealer that I've bought so far. Reason being that it's really creamy, blendable and you can just apply it with your ring finger just about anywhere over your face. Am very happy with this buy =) Might just try out their eyeshadow palette.

  2. I've been eyeing this for a while, but since I have the Naked palette I don't think I need to get it!

  3. I just spotted this on HauteLook for half price and jumped on it. The colors in this palette seem more "neutral" and wearable for me than the Naked palettes.

  7. I really liked it until I saw the colour "schitzo".... how offensive and insensitive. Definitely won't be buying from a company that thinks its okay to use a negative word for something with an illness.

    1. That is a hugely valid point which I didn't consider in-depth before your comment. I wonder if the company has gotten complaints about it before? I'll send an e-mail to the company to inquire about it.

    2. Apparently, theBalm was receptive to consumer complaints about the shade name and changed it (from something which I'm sure was never intended to be offensive) to "Seductive" awhile ago.

  16. I really love theBalm blushes! My fave theBalm product since I bought it is the Mary Lou Manizer highlighter! It's perfect for facial highlight, but I love it as a brightening all over eyeshadow wash on the lids!

  17. hi Jen, you should get the Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette, it's so pretty.

  18. Hi Jen, would you recommend this palette or the urban decay naked 1/2 palette? I'm debating which one to get.

    1. I recommend them both for different reasons. If you are a big fan of matte neutrals and you like compact packaging, go with the Naked Basics but if you don't have many palettes and want a relatively cost-effective option for a neutral palette with a lot of colors try the Nude Tude palette.

  19. I'm in love with The Balm products, in fact I've recently reviewed this and the Balm Jovi palettes on my blog ^^ Their blushes are amazing too, plus the names are so clever. Speaking of which, I find it more offensive for a brand to use parabens and still test on animals than use a name for an eyeshadow like Shcitzo. It's just a name, I'm sure they didn't think anyone would take offense at that, otherwise Stubborn, Selfish, Snobby and Silly could be considered offensive as well.

  20. This palette looks excellent! Love how pigmented it is and the names are a good laugh. It's great that this palette has a few more different shades of neutrals instead of the usual brown, whites, and black/greys.

  21. I haven't encountered anything from The balm that i didn't like. Their packaging is gorgeous, the prices are reasonable and the products are fabulous, My favorites are their blushes (hot mama and fratboy in particular) and also their eyeshadows, buttery to the touch and their other palettes have these big 3.5 gram eyeshadows in it. I love the balm, my favorite neutral palette has to be the too faced natural eye kit.

  24. Nude 'tude is a great palette, and another that I recommend is their "Meet Matt(e)" for matte eyeshadows. I don't always like shimmery eyeshadows (anyone else getting tired of all the sparkle?), and their Meet Matt(e) is just as pigmented, soft, and long-wearing. The Matte palette has nine shades and each shade is a tiny big bigger than the size of those in Nude 'tude. Only caveat of having both palettes is that the "Sultry" tan brown shade in the Nude 'Tude is almost a dupe of the "Matt Gallagher" in the Matte palette. Still, I think both are great value and very much loved by me.
Also, I bought my both palettes a few months ago and the "Schizo" shade name is indeed replaced as "Seductive" in Nude 'tude.

  25. I am very happy with theBalm products. I use the Nude'Tude palette everyday I put makeup on. I use the dark brown and black together for my brows, and the lightest matte brown shade as my blending color (although it is a smidge too dark, but I can manage). I use their blushes, LOVE! And their Bahama Mama bronzer is my favorite right now. I really can't complain. I use their products everyday I put on makeup.

  26. I purchased this palette on the weekend (where there was a primer GWP). The palette is very shimmery as compared to the UD Naked Palette and I would have preferred there to be more matte shades.

Just purchased the UD Naked 1/2 palette and bronzer palette, so I am looking forward to trying those out soon!

  27. My fav neutral is Too Face's natural eye palette, it just has 9 colors but enough for everyday use, and I tend to use every one of them once in a while to mix&match.

I've always wanted this nude palette from theBalm, but I don't think I need that many colors since I have most of them. Do you have any recommendations on palette that has just a few red/burgundy in different shades?

oh more videos on youtube plz!! Love all your videos!!!

  28. theBalm's Balm Shelter tinted moisturizer is terrific! Paraben-free, mineral oil-free, non-comodegenic with SPF 18 to boot! I'm also a fan of their lip glosses (Daddy's Girl is my fave) and the Mary Lou-manizer highlighter. :)

  30. Have you tried the Shady Lady palettes from the Balm? I recently purchased the volume 1 and 2 and been pretty happy with the result. I was torn between getting Vol.1 or this NudeTude palette when I was at the store cos I really like the colour sexy in this but in the Vol 1 Curvy Cami is pretty similar and also Jealous Jordana can be a dupe for Loaded form Urban Decay. Anyway I tried your 1 colour smokey eye tutorial with the Curvy Cami in the ShadyLady palette instead of Sexy and got amazing result too :) I'd like to see some tutorials for the Shady lady palette as I found some of the colours can be a bit too challenging to use. Thanks Jen

  31. I purchased mine from Hautelook a little while back and used it for the first time yesterday and absolutely LOVED it! I'm pretty fair skinned myself, but I didn't find that the stubborn shade wasn't too pinky on my eye, but nothing compares to foxy from UD :)

  32. Hi Jen
Have you heard of Lisi Cosmetics (www.lisicosmetics.com)? It's a new company that opened in NYC last year. I never heard of them until I went in to the Cosmetic Market last night and saw their products and I bought 4 eyeshadow for $5 each. When I got home I Googled them and found out that they are having a 50% off sale (so I over-paid). Anyway, I thought you might want to give it a try since the colors are beautiful and very pigmented.
    p.s. I love your blogs and video~ :)
