May 2013 Beauty Favorites!

9:00 AM

Hey everyone! May this year has absolutely flown by in a giant Korean whirlwind! One of the first things I did when I got back home was to record my May Favorites video which includes some of my go-to products while traveling abroad, as well as a couple of new-found loves. Check out the video below!

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:

Skin79 VIP Gold BB Cream
Tarte Amazonian Clay in Blissful
Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush
Benefit Cha Cha Lip Tint
Etude House Dear My Jelly Lips-talk in Hot Pink
Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Diamond Dog
Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Stargazer

ON ME:

Face - Charmzone Charm In Cell BB Cream
Lips - Benefit Cha Cha Tint
Nails - Essie Mint Candy Apple
Tee - Forever 21

Of course when in Korea I couldn't skip out on using BB Cream, the product which found its popularity first within the country. Skin79 VIP Gold has been my favorite BB Cream for a long time and gave me a bit of extra coverage and brightness on days when I didn't want to wear a full face of foundation, so it easily made it onto my list of favorites this month.

I am also absolutely loving Benefit's Cha Cha Tint. I'll do a blog post talking more about my visit with Benefit Korea in Seoul, but suffice it to say that Cha Cha Tint is Korea's #1 best-selling Benefit product  since its launch and I am totally enamored. I've enjoyed the original red Benetint for a long time but Cha Cha looks even better on yellow-undertoned skin like mine, plus it's very long lasting. LOVE!

I guess you could say coral/orange have been my colors of this month since I have 2 blushes and a lip color all in the same family. It just screams Spring to me!

I don't want to be too redundant but I also wanted to include this last picture since it shows more of my hair. Yes, I did re-color my hair this month at Atform Chosungah in Seoul's Chungdamdong district. I wanted to go darker, and no more ombre for me! I'll share more about that experience soon as well. It's definitely a May favorite, haha! :)

Hope you guys enjoyed your May and let me know in the comments what your favorites were this month!

Readers, what is your current go-to color? Any favorites you'd like to share? Let me know in the comments!

    2. I love your hair color. I am half korean and of course have naturally very dark brown hair. I've always wanted to lighten it a bit like yours. I've been looking for a video or a post about the color and your experience. A reply would be great with the color you dyed it.

  6. I love tints and cheek stains! I've been a little afraid to try the Tarte Amazonian clay since it's supposedly very pigmented but I love their bliss cheek stain.

    1. The Tarte blushes (depending on the shade, of course) aren't over-pigmented in my experience. You should definitely try them out!

  12. I picked up the Urban Decay Moondust eyeshadows a couple of weeks ago more out of curiousity than anything else since I don't normally like glitter eyeshadows. They were just too darned pretty to pass up. I'm glad that I did as I like them, the glitter fallout isn't horrendous and it just adds such a nice shimmer.

  21. Waaaaahhhhh I want your hair in this video! I know it's probably "easy" to do those curls, but seriously, how did you get them to look like that? I'm not a talented curler, lol. And Korea makes amazing beauty products. My mom used to buy me Korean BB cream and didn't appreciate it very much back then since I barely wore anything on my face, but now that I'm a bit older and take better care of myself I can see how good of a product it is.

  22. Hi Jen!

I had to come back and comment again. Have you tried Bite Beauty lipsticks? I just got a mini from Sephora's 100 VIB points and much say that I'm in love! I think that you and I like similar lipstick formulas. The Luminous Crème Lipstick feels really nice. I ended up placing an order for a full size in a different color.

  23. Jen - LOVE LOVE your eyes in this video! Being a Korean girl myself, I always turn to you for tips on accenting our unique eyes and lids. Please do a tutorial on this look if you have time! Definitely going to pick up some UD MoonDust shadows. You mentioned the lid color but did you say what you used as the inner corner highlight?

  26. I THOUGHT your make up looked different today...and I would love a tutorial!!! :))) I love coral/peach, but I think it looks odd against my yellow skintone. :( Perhaps only fair-skinned girls can pull this off!

  29. You said the original Benetint is "an orange," but that's not the case at all. It's actually a quite rosy pink!

  30. Hi Jen!
I was wondering if you've ever had a problem with the tarte blushes where it sort of looks like a waxy film forms on top of the blush.
I've been using it for a couple of months now but I've noticed that it's getting a lot harder to get the product on the brush at all!

    1. I have had that happen before and my guess is that it comes from the oils in your skin or makeup brush transferring onto the product. The same thing often happens to eyeshadows too, especially if you use fingers to dip in them. You can just scratch off that top layer and it should be good as new. :)

  31. Hi Jen!
I know this post was from awhile ago, but for some reason I just saw it recently and I really really like the make up you were wearing in this video! I really really want to see how it is done. Can you please do a tutorial for this look? I've seen the other Korean style make up tutorial and it is really cute too, but I'm just still so curious about this one. Thanks! :)

  32. Hi Jen!

Did you ever figure out what the color of the Etude House Dear My Jelly Lips Tok was?
It looks like it's JPK003 (Cotton Pink), but it could be JPK002 (Strawberry) too...
I'm trying to buy one online, but I wanted to know which one you got since I always trust your judgment when it comes to make-up ;)

    Thanks in advance!
