Best MLBB (My Lips But Better) Lipsticks!

9:00 AM

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share a video that was requested by a commenter in my What's In My Purse? video. I mentioned a few of my necessary MLBB lipsticks in it, which you all in the beauty community know means "My Lips But Better". MLBBs are my favorite type of lipstick and I try to keep one (or five) on me at all times so I thought it would be life-improving for all of you to see a breakdown of my all time top MLBB obsessions!

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:

ON ME:

The requirements I look for in MLBBs are being a wearable medium pink, hydration, and that they fill the niche of "goes with everything" in my makeup wardrobe. It's the lipstick that doesn't require too much thinking which is so necessary for those who need a quick, reliable lipstick buddy for work or school. I'm mostly a natural makeup gal but that doesn't mean I don't have a respectable variety of MLBB iterations on hand for the subtle differences of life's callings. ;)

I'll start off with NYX, one of my first makeup brand loves. I'm concerned this particular shade may be discontinued but I am still a loyal fan of their Black Label lipsticks which are a step up in quality from their popular Round Lipstick line. Bling is a cooler, barely plummy-pink which looks especially nice in the Winter when my skin is a touch lighter.

Urban Decay Fiend is from their new Revolution line of creamy, pigmented lipsticks which I recently reviewed. On me, this is another cooler rose pink but it doesn't have any purple undertones. It's one of my more opaque MLBBs as well and has a bit of longer lasting power than the others. I can see this shade looking great on every skintone.

Benefit Nice 'n Teasy has been my go-to purse lipstick as of late and it's definitely because it's one of the most balmy lipsticks I own. There's no need to carry a separate lip balm in my purse since this one makes my lips feel so hydrated. The color itself is on the warmer side with a slight brown base so it will look especially wonderful on those with yellow-based undertones.

Maybelline Color Whisper lipstick in Rose of Attraction is my favorite drugstore MLBB and gives a great brightening effect to the face. As the name implies, this one is a rosy raspberry shade that is pigmented enough to give a pop of color but has a sheerness to it that makes it look quite natural. LOVE it!

Finally, Spice Spice Baby from Too Faced is hands-down my #1 MLBB because the color is literally closest to my natural lip color and truly fulfills everything I look for in an MLBB. The formula is plush and creamy, the look is glossy and hydrating, and the overall effect is natural yet pulled-together. Too Faced, you hit the ball out of the park with this one!

I hope this was helpful for those of you looking for a new MLBB or wanting a few suggestions of where to start finding the MLBB that works best for you. If you didn't watch the video, make sure you check it out since sometimes makeup in motion is more telling than a still photo! Thanks so much for reading!

Readers, what is your favorite MLBB? What would you like to see in my next product roundup? Let me know in the comments!

  6. My current favorite MLBB lipstick is Korres Mango Butter Lipstick in Natural Rose. So lucky I found this one--my super-sensitive lips can't even tolerate most lip balms but my lips love these!

It's the balmy-kind of lipstick with a slight sheen and sheer finish. No masking fragrance but there's a faint whiff of mango from the mango butter.

I have a couple of Maybelline Color Whispers but for some reason, despite the hydration, chapped lips make a reappearance as soon as I wear these regularly again--even with a good lip balm underneath.

Thanks for mentioning the NYX Black Label lipstick and the Benefit one. Will have to give those a try.

  8. Actually just got back from Hong Kong and got Lavshuca Memory Rouge in Pink 4. It's more of a gloss but it's super pigmented and hydrating - my new obsession!

  10. Can you please do one on makeup bags? Travel, daily, etc. and what goes in them. I love your blog! I went from never changing my products (one cleanser, one toner, one lotion) to realizing the variety that's out there. I'm also an MTTO convert because of you. I really appreciate your positive attitude and easy-to-listen-to/watch videos. Also, have you ever heard about antioxidants causing infertility?

    1. I've never heard about the infertility thing before! Antioxidants are in so many foods naturally and I've only heard of the benefits of antioxidants before. Let me know if there's info on it I should check out.

  12. OMG. I absolutely adore Too Faced La Creme in Spice Spice Baby! ^_^
What highlighter have you been using alot? Benefit Moon Beam got pulled from the shelves so I've been on the hunt for something like it... :(

    1. So sad about Moonbeam leaving! :( Sometimes it's hard to find a really nice pink-tinted liquid illuminator but I actually really love the original HIgh Beam as well. For powder highlighters, Too Faced Candlelight highlighter is lovely with a golden glow!

  13. Hi Jen,

I haven't tried Too Faced's Spice Spice Baby, but how does it compare to Urban Decay's Naked Lipstick (the old one)?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The old Naked was a shade or two lighter than Spice Spice Baby. I actually prefer the Too Faced MLBB to my old fav, but I haven't tried out the new Naked a ton yet so it might be similar!

  15. I bought the Spice Spice Baby by Too Faced based on your reco, and I really love it! It is definitely MLBB. My other go-to for this category is Beauty by Clinique. Very similar to, but slightly warmer than Spice Spice Baby. I am going to try the Maybelline Rose of Attraction that you mentioned here as well.I am always looking for good things to try from the drugstore, and without the ability to swatch anything, I always shy away from purchasing. Thanks again for another awesome review!

  20. Hi Jen! Your tutorials are so helpful!
Can you do one video like that for you favorite concealers, foundations, powders, blushes...?
    thank you

  21. Hey Jen, great tutorials. I was wondering, you must have tons and tons of makeup and brushes and I was wondering how you organize it all. I find it hard to keep the stuff I have neat and orderly. I often lose things are find things later that I've forgotten about. How do you keep it all straight??

  22. Hello. Love your blog and tutorials. Anyway, I have a question about the Too Faced La Creme lipsticks - do they melt easily? I've had issues with Revlon Lip Butters turning into mush and am on the hunt for other balm-like lipsticks that don't have the same problem. Thanks!

  23. My go-to MLBB lipsticks are the Maybelline Color Whisper in Mocha Muse and the Revlon Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya. I like that both these lines are sheer and have a glossy finish.

I'm super curious about the UD lipstick! This color looks great on you!

  27. Jen,
I just purchased Spice Spice Baby. I am so glad you recommended this product. I have been using Mac lippies for years, and it is great I tried something new. I also got the Tarte Exposed and I love it! -Nina

  28. Please do an updated MLBB! I have used up one tube of almost every color you recommended here and they all worked. But some of them are hard to come across anymore. So if you can do an updated version with more recent products, it would be very helpful! Thanks!
