Manicure Monday: Deborah Lippmann Build Me Up Buttercup

4:18 PM

Happy Monday Today I wanted to share a pastel yellow polish from Deborah Lippmann's Spring Reveries collection which is this buttery shade called Build Me Up Buttercup. With the ever-warming weather, this color reminds me of laying out on a sunny beach while sipping a lemonade.

For some reason I used to be afraid of wearing yellow. I had been told in the past that yellow would clash with the yellow undertones in my skin and make me look sallow, but I've actually found the opposite to be true. Yellow clothing and yes,  polish, seems to give a brighter and more youthful appearance and who doesn't want to look brighter and younger? ;)

Here I applied a base of OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, 3 coats of Build Me Up Buttercup, and a topcoat of Seche Vite. Not sure if it's my topcoat being tinted by past red polishes, but the color did get a sliiiiight hint of orange to it after applying the topcoat taking it from a neutral pastel yellow to more of a buttery hue. Either way, it's a very flattering shade on the hands.

Overall, this is a great yellow for those of you wanting a lift in your polish wardrobe but are too timid to get a brighter lemony color. This applied easily (unusual for notoriously fussy yellow polishes) and didn't have any streaking or opacity problems.

If you are in a pastel mood, you can find my past reviews of the Deborah Lippmann Spring collection here, here, here, and here.

Readers, what is your favorite yellow polish? Are yellows tricky to apply for you too or is it just me? Let me know your experience in the comments!

  1. I remember trying a really yellow color from Essie called Shorty Pants and it was just too bright and it didn't blend in with my skin tone too well but this color seems to be just the right shade of yellow to wear on your nails. It's creamy and not too bright but still beautiful for the summer.

  3. Such a cute pale yellow color! I am not sure how this would look on tanned hands though! These colors tend to look a little off usually! Look great on you :-)

  11. Every time I see your nail posts I just want to go paint some on or go buy some! Definitely going to check out Deborah Lippmann's line at Nordstrom next week and maybe buy during double points! I have trouble finding good yellows (unless their super bright) but for the more muted ones, they always seem to turn gross on my nails--like the shading changes to something darker or dirty looking. Maybe I just need to use a better top coat? Even though I use Seche Vite... not sure why I have this issue, but i'll def swatch this whole line when I am at the mall =P
