2NE1 Park Bom Makeup Tutorial feat. Martina (Eat Your Kimchi)

7:28 PM

Let me start out by saying that this is one of my favorite collaborations I've done! It's been quite a long time since I did a Kpop makeup tutorial for you guys but the stars aligned when my friends Simon and Martina of Eat Your Kimchi (fabulous Youtube channel about Kpop and Korean culture and food) came to LA and stayed with us for a few days.

What is that you said? A Youtuber in my home who loves girly things, makeup, Kpop, and PINK was having an extended sleepover? Ooooh, you know that means we had to do record a tutorial. ;)

It just so happens that both our favorite Kpop bands is the same: 2NE1. May I present to you a Park Bom makeup look. Vid and more below!

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:

bb cream | Kiehls BB Cream
eyeshadow primer | Too Faced Shadow Insurance
sparkling pencil | Etude House Play 101 Pencil
bronzer/blush | NARSissist Cheek Kit

If you don't know who Bom is, she is the doll-faced power singer in 2NE1 known for her giant, round eyes and bunny-like features. Here is her signature look we were going for:

And here is the look executed on Martina. We were lucky enough that Martina had somewhat similarly shaped eyes, however eyeliner and shadow has a huge part in creating this puppy dog-eye by enhancing the outer corners with a drooping shadow shape. This creates a rounder, innocent look versus a more angular cat eye.

Huge thanks to Martina (and Simon! No, I didn't forget about you supportively playing Nintendo Wii in the background) for letting me paint your face and spending awesome girly fran' time with you!

We also recorded a video on the EYK channel about my experience growing up Korean in the US and Martina's experience being Canadian living in Korea, which hopefully some of you might relate to in some ways. I personally found it to be a really interesting to talk about and I haven't seen many people share that kind of experience before.

Make sure you guys subscribe to their Youtube channel and check out the Eat Your Kimchi blog!

Readers, what makeup tutorial would you like to see next? Are you multi-cultural or have you visited/lived somewhere with a different cultural experience? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hi Jen,
This is unrelated, but I hope you answer anyway- I am a huge fan!

So I wear waterproof mascara everyday, but my eyelashes have started falling out/becoming brittle when I take it off at the end of the day. I usually use Maybelline Full 'N Soft and Neutrogena eye make up remover and use q-tips. I was wondering how you take off your eye make up while protecting your lashes or whether you have a better waterproof/non-waterproof mascara since I've heard waterproof isn't normally made for everyday wear.

    Thank you so much!

    1. Maybelline has a newer dual-phase (oil/water) waterproof makeup remover that is excellent! I use a cotton pad and press it against my eye (don't rub hard) so the makeup melts, then gently wipe from the underside of my lashes where I applied the mascara. I wear very waterproof formulas and I haven't had a problem with this routine!

    2. Just wanted to chime in because I dealt with this and found a solution :-)

My lashes were brittle after using Waterproof mascara on holiday - so when I came back - I started applying Castor Oil every night with a q-tip before bed. It grew my lashes back and keeps them soft & thick no matter what mascara I use. ( my technique here: http://ellaprettyblog.blogspot.ca/2014/01/five-beauty-tips-sparkling-teeth-soft.html )

And for removing mascara, I like Clinique's Take the Day Off Balm. It's my facial cleanser but for my eyes I take a tiny bit in my hand - mix it with water to make a paste and gently massage it onto my eyes - rinse it off and repeat as necessary - I then wipe my eye area with a wet cotton pad to pick up any grease/mascara residue.

    3. I use olive oil (extra virgin olive oil) to remove my makeup. It works like a miracle and lengthen and thicken my eyelashes.
After that I just use face-wash to remove the residual.
