Hello Kitty Konad Nail Art Tutorial

10:32 PM

I made a Konad tutorial tonight with the infamous Hello Kitty fauxnad (GCOCL A02) plate that I won from Polish Pixie. After going back and forth with the lovely Inge through e-mail, I have also commissioned her to buy me some L'Oreal Star Magnet polishes.

I don't know if you guys have heard of this before but it is the same concept as the Lancome Le Magnetique polishes that create a star-pattern using a magnet that reacts with the polish while wet. One of my favorite nail blogs, The Nailphile, has a couple awesome swatches of these and they are just gorgeous!

Anyway, getting back to the task at hand (literally), here is the youtube video uploaded and embedded for your pleasure.

For the tutorial I used my Zoya polish in Stephanie with Sally Hansen Chrome "nail makeup" polish in Pink Pearl. Did I mention that Inge snuck that polish in with my plates sent all the way from Denmark? It is a beautiful pink metallic that looks SO GOOD konaded. I keep staring at my nails, not just because adorable Helly Kitty is on them but because the contrast of the cream polish and metallic design is beautiful. It makes me so dang happy.

Anyway, here are my photos:

My cute new plates. The non-kitty plates have mirror-image designs which should be awesome for my anal-design tendencies.

With all new plates, you MUST peel the plastic layer off. This killed me the first time I tried Konading and failed miserably. I didn't take the plastic off!

I won't lie. The formula for Stephanie sucks. I needed 5 thin coats for opacity! But gosh, isn't it beautiful? I need a good recommendation for a truly opaque pale pink/off white cream. Anyone? Bueller?

And finally, my Hello Kittycure.

I love how the light hits that metallic pink.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I absolutely love Seche Vite top coat. Seche clear base + big 3 free polish + Seche Vite top coat = no chipping. Super shiny, hard nails that dry quickly. I'm amazed.

I didn't realize how late it got. Off to bed I go but please let me know what you thought of my vid! Love you guys. :)

XOXO

  6. Loved the video and the music oozed with playfulness. You would have otherwise gotten me sold if my nails weren't so small and short!

I wish I knew a more opaque pale pink polish. All the ones that I have tried always required a few coats :( Hopefully someone will be able to help you out!

  9. hey ive got a question if u dun mind :)

u know the stamper? wouldn't it already have nailpolish on it from stamping one design? cuz i would have thought the nailpolish would "soak" into the stamper..so would'nt the "leftover nailpolish" on that pink stamper sorta make it not useable for stamping ur other fingers?

or is it that u wipe down the stamper each time to make it clean to use for the next nail?

..i hope my question made sense xD

    thank you!

  12. Kim: I bought all of my Konad-type stuff on ebay. Look up "nail stamp" or "konad." There are also a few places you can buy them online.

IchigoBunny: The stamp is rubber so the design sits on top of the stamp, not soaking in. When you stamp it on your nail it transfers off. If there are little polish flakes that missed, I remove it with polish remover. :)

Crystal: I bought them from ebay.

  25. Really like the HelloKitty design, so cute using chrome against the pale pink polish. Too bad it took 5 coats for Zoya Stephanie to be opaque!!! I know I can never wait that long for a 5 coats mani :P I look forward to Konad adding this design soon. Hope to see more of your Konad pics and tutorials. P.S. Please post when you find an alternative to Zoya Stephanie. Thanks.

  29. I just got my konad set! but unfortunately, it doesn't work well with the polish I have....need to buy some new polish now..even my opi didn't work well. Are the fauxnad plates any better? Do you think it is the plate or the nail polish?

    Anyway, thanks so much Jen!

  30. Jojo: I definitely recommend picking up the Konad brand Special Polish in at least white and black, which is intended just for stamping. It's thicker and more opaque than regular polish and it stamps best. You can find regular polishes that work, but only the most opaque regular polishes do the trick and they dry quicker than Konad's Special polish so you have less time to work.

  33. Hi, I like your nail design in the photo where you are showing everyone to take the plastic off the plates. Is that nail art from a salon, stickers, or something else? Thanks.
