Bridal Makeup Video Tutorial
2:32 PM
I know tons of you ladies have been asking for this so, as promised, I recorded a bridal makeup tutorial video for you all! It is very, very similar to how I did my makeup for my wedding last year. I just had better skin and I think the brow-highlight color was probably less intense for the wedding, since I used a different brush.
I've mentioned it before, but I will say it again, here are a few tips to keep in mind for makeup during your wedding:
* Photography is so important and will last longer than the day itself, so keep in mind how your makeup will look behind the lens
* Avoid anything that is too reflective like makeup/lotions with spf (including mineral makeup), and avoid glitters and shimmers if possible
* Use a matte brow bone highlight color and matte blush (you want the shine in your eyes, not your brow bone)
* A classic makeup look is always going to look good in photos, now and in the future
* Avoid anything that makes you too uncomfortable (eg. lenses if you don't wear them daily, eyelid tape if you aren't used to it, brand new untested foundation, etc)
* PRACTICE ahead of time, especially if you are doing your own makeup. With a makeup artist, set up a practice run before the wedding day to make sure you are going to get what you want.
* Use a new tube of WATERPROOF mascara!
* Long-wear lipcolor (I like Maybelline Superstay Gloss) can be really useful for not giving your husband a lipstick smear! ;)
I recorded this a couple days ago when I wasn't feeling well and was home sick, so please forgive the less-than-perfect skin. New cam records in HD!! Scary!! If you like the video, please comment, rate, and subscribe to my Youtube channel.
Here's a rundown of everything I used:
Face
- Graftobian concealer and hi-def foundation
- Everyday Minerals blush in Apple
- NYX Mosaic Powder in Highlighter
- MAC blot powder
Eyes
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Clinique Brush-On Cream Liner in Deep Brown (as a base over the tape and blending into skin)
- Covergirl Lash Exact waterproof mascara
- MAC fluidline in blacktrack (lining both top and bottom lashlines)
- Criss-cross and tapering style false lashes
- Nyx single shadows in dark brown and white
- Revlon 12-hour eyeshadow quad in Copper Spice
Lips
- Maybelline Superstay Gloss in #160 Glass Rose
A few pics of the finished product:
And a bit further away to get the overall effect.
Hope it is helpful to you brides-to-be out there! Let me know if you have any wedding-specific questions and I will try to answer them to the best of my ability. I am doing makeup for a wedding in just a few weeks, so this was a fun little refresher for me. :)
I also wanted to add a little reminder that the Mineral Magic Cosmetics Giveaway is going on RIGHT NOW so please be sure to enter! I'm stoked to share some of their brushes with you because I really love the ones I own.
Okay, hopefully my cam battery is charged enough that I can take pics of these Ben Nye swatches on my arm. Haha. See you guys next time~

Lisa: You should!!! It would be so special! Maybe you can do special-requests for weddings. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty Jen! hehe, i'd seen the video on YT before but just HAD to read the blog post!

Beyond beautiful Jen! I also watched the video you first posted on youtube, and glad you did a personal blog about it too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous look - thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteyou're so beautiful!! great tutorial!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video! Is there any finishing powder that you recommend for pictures? I bought the Dio Airflash foundation and they told me to use Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Fresh Powder Makeup as a finishing powder, but it's a mineral powder with an spf 10. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteOhemgee, you look freakin' beautiful! I just watched your Bridal Makeup Tutorial and I must say I love the HD-ness! I just wish you had recorded putting on the foundation, concealer, powder, all that stuff, since you literally look like you have amazingly perfect skin! (although you say you have bad skin here, you look flawless to me.) I loved the video nevertheless; you work so fast, too. I'm so jealous of you in many ways! Keep up the great work and hope to hear from you soon~ :)
ReplyDeleteSOOO PRETTY! I am going to save your tutorial and try something similar for my wedding in the future :)
ReplyDeletenice tutorial jen...
ReplyDeleteand beautiful as always....!
the necklace that you worn, is that from the dsk jewelry?
Wow..this is really beautiful^^love ur tutorial~
ReplyDeleteHow is the MAC blot powder as a finishing powder?
ReplyDeleteyou look so elegant =D
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: Like I said, rules are meant to be broken. What I would do is put on your foundation, try out the Dior powder at the store and then go outside and have someone take a photo of you. If your face seems whiter or looks odd, look for something else. Generally, products within the same brand work together well so it might be fine. :)
ReplyDeletedaisy: Haha, it looks like I worked fast because I cut out a lot of footage. >.< Thank you thank you though, I will do more HD vids in the future!
La coruna: Yes, it is the Bubbi's Moonlight necklace from DSK... I will do a post on it soon!
Anonymous: Blot powder doesn't work with all foundations and all skintypes, but it is really great for oily skin types. I have an oily t-zone which gets worse with foundation so it is great for me!
Thank you so much for this! I love your blog, it's so much help for this fellow petite asian. Could you do more posts about fashion, like more about where you shop? I love your style!
ReplyDeleteHi! i'm new to this whole blog thing, could you please tell me how to customize my blogspot page with html or layouts or whatever it is? thanks so so much if you can.
ReplyDeleteI DO!!!! I LOVE RAIN!!! OMGGGGG
ReplyDelete<3
you are so gorgeous!!! and your complexion is amazing. Love the nail polish you're wearing... what is it?
ReplyDeletehi jen! could you tell me what foundation color you are for the graftobian foundation? I'm NC30 and not sure what i would be in this foundation...also do you like the coverage? and how does it wear through out the day? thanks so much! :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: Of course I can do more posts on fashion! I do try to list where I got everything when I post my outfits, so look out for that.
ReplyDeleteMy Little Nail Book: I'm not that good at web design! There's lots of tutorials on the internet now, so just try to learn as much html/css as you can and do trial and error. That's what I did. :)
DSK: I thought it would be appropriate for a wedding-related tutorial! I had the DJ play the song at my wedding too. Haha.
Jackie: I was wearing Zoya Posh. It is a matte red shimmer and it's GORGEOUS!!
Anonymous: I am also NC30 and I'm not sure exactly what I used because I used the foundation palette which has 60 colors! But it was the warm palette, if that helps. It's a cream foundation so coverage is very good. Probably a bit too heavy for me since I get pretty oily in the summer though. It does look very nice on normal or drier complexions and you can thin it out with your moisturizer. Just make sure you really let it soak in before you add a finishing powder. :)
Jen you look fabbbbbbb! I like how you put UDPP into the lil pen, how can you do that? Tutoriallllllll :]
ReplyDeletebeautiful look!

ReplyDeleteabsolutely gorgeous! =)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen!
ReplyDeleteI have some questions on eyelid tape and I didn't know which post I should comment on.
I was wondering how you remove your double eyelid tape because I heard if you just take it off then your eyelids will become saggy.
I also left a message on your soompi account but I don't think you go on soompi as much as your own blog. :]

you are very beautiful...i hope you know that. you have such a classic, sophisticated face.
ReplyDeleteand i do not say that very often =)
you make it look so easy~!! my eyeshadows are mostly shimmery so I gotta find matte ones now.. thanks for the tip ~
ReplyDeleteyour skin is so gorgeous! I was absolutely mesmerized by how beautiful, flawless, and glowing it was!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jen!
ReplyDeleteMy wedding is in October and I was freaking out about my make-up, I needed someone to do it whom I trust completely and after watching your video I realised that person is me with your assistance! Thank you!
BTW you are so beautiful. :)
Blaire.
I love this look, very prettY!
ReplyDeleteowh my
ReplyDeletehow beautiful.
so innocent and pure looking. :)
BELLA! u have got excellent skin
ReplyDeleteHeh, it's me again. I think I should post the second part of my comment here, as it seems more suitable for this post. I am sorry, I don't really mean to flood your blog with my comments ^^ Please don't ban me ^^
ReplyDeleteI am actually only looking for make up for my upcoming wedding next summer, which will be in a hot and humid weather, with my oily skin... and some large pores... and some fine lines on the eye contours (<- result of me staying up late at night and never had sunscreen for the eye before. I do now) :(( That is the reason why I sweat so much over what kind of foundation I should use... silly me :">
I have taken down note of the product you actually used in your wedding, in which you used the Everyday Mineral make up. But here you used the Gradtobian foundation, and in a moment I had hoped this was a better version for oily skin, but maybe this is for dry and normal skin type?
After following your blog, based on your suggestion, I have been able to save a lot in make up stuff. With my little experience I just plan to buy the... brand name make up. I really love that your suggestion is affordable for students ^^ Even though if I do sum up everything, it is about the price if I hire someone to do my face for one time, but be able to do everything by myself is... a great feeling... am I right? ^^ And I can still use these make up later on...

ReplyDeleteWhat skin colors did you use for the Graftobian concealer and hi-def foundation? Did you use the Neutral, warm, or cool? Are most Asians cool toned? I can't find the perfect foundation for my light asian skintone!
ReplyDeleteIs there a special brand of lashes that you used? Thanks in advance! Great vid btw!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for being random, but this video seems to have been removed.. X: .. I was wondering if you could by chance re-upload this video? The result is gorgeous and I don't know the first thing about applying make up, really v_v;;
ReplyDeleteif im not mistaken,u mentioned in the video dat clear lip gloss is applied over the glass rose's one..wouldnt it be smudged then??
ReplyDeletetenkiu for ur lovely tutorial =)
Hi Jen, is a makeup primer for the face necessary in bridal makeup? I'm wondering if a primer for the face can be used on the eye area too.
ReplyDeleteomg, u look gorgeous, make me want to get married and have a wedding lol
ReplyDeleteJen, do you have a picture of your hair on your wedding day? Was it professionally done or did you do it yourself? If so, please do a tutorial. I love the look you achieved & would like to reuse it :)
ReplyDeleteHi, your idea for make up is excellent.

ReplyDeleteHi Jen! I love your bridal makeup! You look perfect! What shade of the HD foundation did you use? Also, what brush did you use to put the black track eyeliner on? I'm getting married in a month and would really like to have this look for my wedding date. Thank you so much!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Jessica! If it's not too late, the eyeliner brush she used is the Sonia Kashuk bent eyeliner brush. Congrats on your wedding!
