Valentine's Day Sexy Smoky Eye Makeup
6:53 PM
Hello ladies and gents. I'm not sure why I'm drawn to do tutorials for Valentine's Day more than other holidays, but this is actually one where I did a look last year as well as this year. I think it's mostly because it gives me an excuse to wear hot pink eyeshadow (yay!) which might otherwise look--shall we say--less than demure. A lot of girls seem to think that it will make them look sickly or like they got punched in the face, which is obviously not what one wants to give the impression of on the big day of love.
Personally, I think it's all about the secondary color you use to hug the hot pink. Pretty Valentine's Day appropriate, no?
Products used:
Skin79 Hot Pink bb cream (not shown)Urban Decay Primer Potion
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean
NYX Single Eyeshadow in Hot Pink
Wet & Wild Color Icon Palette in Night Elf (matte black and white shimmer)
NYX Single Eyeshadow in Wildflower
Eyeko Graffiti Eyeliner in black
FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen Mascara
Darkness lashes in VXA
Lioele Artist Auto Eyebrow pencil in Grey Black
Rock & Republic Contrived Pressed Blush in Kinky
Lioele Real Vivid Matte Lipstick in 6 Sandy Beige
Dior Addict Ultragloss in 517
Here are some pics of the final look. My apologies that the colors make it look like I'm wearing purple and brown (the video is more true-to-life) but at least you can see the glowiness that you get from layering the base and shadow. Still testing out lighting for both video and photos and it's a work in progress. :)
Can I just mention that I'm a little in love with my Lioele Real Vivid Matte lipstick in Sandy Beige? It is such a cute peachy nude on me, and a lot more wearable than my brown-nude NYX Round Lipsticks in Circe or Rea.
This is my sexy face (see video at 0:18). Basically, this is how I turn the guys on. (Bwahahah, duck lips.)
Obviously, this isn't the most complicated look but it works with any other color as your basic colored smokey-eye. It's not too difficult for those experimenting with doing smokey eyes for the first time as well. To get a more wearable Valentine's Day look, check out my video from last year. ^_^
Happy pre-Valetine's Day to those in relationships, and for those not in a relationship, you can do a green or blue smokey eye in protest. Angst!
Hope that was helpful and have fun practicing. Let me know in the comments your Valentine's Day plans are and whether they are pink or blue. ;)

ReplyDeleteThis look is absolutely gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteLove the makeup thank you
ReplyDeleteHey Jen how do you like your bb cream (hot pink). I cant decide which bb creams to choose since there are a lot. My skin is fair during the cold seasons but I also tan easily during the summer. I have tried one bb cream from misha before but thought the color was pretty light for me. it's weird bc my forehead is a bit tanned compared to my face.
ReplyDeleteI have watched your bb cream tutorials but still can't figure out which one in color would suit me.

ReplyDeleteHi, Jen! Thank u so much for the tutorial! I will definitely try this! Here in Brazil, Valentines day is June 12th, but I will use your look as inspiration tomorrow, for the wedding of a very dear friend of mine... it's going to be at night, so I think I need a romantic but fierce look, just like that! =D

ReplyDeletegorgeous look!
ReplyDeleteAs always, you loOk beautiful like an actress!
ReplyDeleteYou're my beauty makeup guru inspiration, Jen :)
Love the earrings, is it crown on top of pearl? Can't see in detail.
Maryann: I like the hot pink bb cream, but it really doesn't work in some lights. Sometimes it washes me out before it settles in after an hour or so. I like the formula and coverage a lot though.
ReplyDeleteJenny: It's actually a dress that my mom randomly got me several years ago! It looks frumpy and babyish by itself but cute with a cardi over. ^_^
Amanda: I got the pink brushes from Sedona Lace. :)
Noniek: Yes, it's a pearl wearing a crown! :D Lisa from He Qi Crystal Designs send them to me.
I tried this look a while ago and I'm loving it soooo much! Even my officemate noticed the eyemake up she liked it too! =)

Hi Jen
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let u know my sister found this site from the korean websites. I have been totally addicted to this site! I love the way you show step by step application, product close ups, and listing of all the products used! Esp the monolid and double eyelid tutorials! U have totally revamped my love for makeup again, as i was going thru a 'cant b bothered' phase.
I have put my order in for urban decay eyeliners from usa to australia, and too faced eyelid primer after watching all ur tutorials!
Itvwld b great to know more things abt u... What u do, if u are a professional makup artist, where u buy ur products etc!
My gfs are totally loving this blog and even the hair tutorials here in australia, u r doing koreans proud! Well sone and keep blogging!
jane lee from down under!
have you tried double eyelid FIBER? just curious how it is compared to the tape...
ReplyDeletehave you every tried double eyelid fiber? just curious how it compares to the tape...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, as always Jen! Are you going to do another K-Pop tutorial again soon??
ReplyDeleteI love the look Jen!
ReplyDeleteI saw this new tokidoki blush brush at Sephora, and I thought you might like it since it matches your other ones:
http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P279612&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5971
Also, I thought you might be interested in Birchbox, which is a company that does monthly cosmetic samples. It's really a great way to try new products. I wrote about it on my blog:
http://cloudies.blogspot.com/
As a response to Caroline, I've tried the Mezaik fiber for double eyelids, and I love it! I used to use single sided tape, but that was really ugly and noticeable. However, after a few hours of wearing the tape, if I take it off, my double eyelids will stay for the rest of the day. I started wearing the Wonder eyelid after I heard about it from you (thanks!), and I love it but the only thing is if I take off the tape, the double eyelid doesn't stay. However, Mezaik kind of combines the best of both worlds. It's super thin and un-noticeable, and it keeps my double eyelids. The downside is it takes some practice to get it working well, and it's sometimes kind of hard to remove since it's so thin. Overall, great product though, and I think you should try it out.
ReplyDeleteReally gorgeous look! Pretty dress and ur earrings are lovely! I love ur sense of style and fashion!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! I love your videos/blog!! This question doesn't have anything to do with this particular video but I was just wondering what you thought of mineral oil. I hear it's not good for you and all that but it's in (almost) everythingggg so I figured it can't be TOO bad if it hasn't been banned....right?
ReplyDeleteKinda proud of myself, last night I decided to use a UD red & the Naked palette to create a look based off this video. <3 Thanks BeautyJen!
ReplyDeleteHey Jen, I love you and your blog! I tried to use the code for a free princess mirror for spending $35 on prettyandcute.com, but they're saying I'd have to spend $48 for it! Why is this? :(
ReplyDeletefirst time here at yr blog! its awesome!
ReplyDeletetotally love the look and will definitely try it out. You look gorgeous as always. thanks!
ReplyDeleteCaroline: I haven't tried the fiber but it sounds interesting. I'll have to look into it. :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: Yes, I actually have 2 kpop vids already recorded that I still need to edit. They will be up soon, in the next month.
Mimi: I am not one way or the other about mineral oil. The biggest thing is to avoid it if you are allergic. I will use products with mineral oil on my body but not on my face since I'm prone to face breakouts.
Anonymous: They are saying you need that amount because to get the free item you need to add it to your cart first. ;) Your total purchase amt will still be $35.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteI just want to let you know that I tagged you or "rewarded" you with the versatile blogger award that's been going around! =)

This is a beautiful look! I love how smoldering your eyes look with the smokey effect :)
ReplyDeletelove the makeup! gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love this look~ (:
ReplyDeleteYou're amazing Jen! Btw, did you just pull your bangs back for this look? It looks nice. ahha. (:
I really enjoy your tutorials. I wanted to know your opinion of this product: Urban Decay Naked Palette ? Is this too much for the beginner like myself?
ReplyDeleteWow, did you use double eyelid tape for the finished product? Your before and after is completely different! It triples your eye size as well. Is it all eye makeup and false lashes that give the illusion?
ReplyDeletehautelook.com - R&R beauty gear!!! woot!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! I absolutely love reading your posts. I find your knowledge so helpful and informative. Your genuine self definitely shines through in your videos and that’s just one of the reasons why you‘re one of my favorite gurus on Youtube. You’ve inspired me to embrace what I was born with! Furthermore, I was just wondering if you can recommend a pair of false lashes that deliver a natural look that is suitable for everyday-use. I’m new to using falsies and that would be a lot of help. Thanks so much and keep up the great work, Jen!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! I was wondering where you can buy the NYX lipstick that you refer to. Can you buy it at a drugstore like Walgreen's or RiteAid or CVS? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey Jen I love your top!!! I really want to purchase it for myself. Can you tell me where did you buy your top? thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! I've been following you for ages. Me being a huge tomboy turn somewhat girly have a very stupid question for you...haha. my friends recently bought me NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils in different colours. I was wondering...how the heck do you sharpen these?...=S haha. so embarassing lol

ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI loved the colors in the Valentine's Day Sexy Smokey Eye Makeup tutorial. Thank you.
I have been having problems with eyeliners smearing. I've tried Urban Decay's 24/7 and that smeared; it was worst with primer. What do you recommend? Also, I love the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean. Does either of the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean or Eyeko Graffiti Eyeliner in black smear?
Thanks...
Vik
Vikki: I definitely recommend that you use a gel eyeliner like MAC Fluidline instead of pencil liners or a liquid liner. I personally do love Eyeko Graffiti liner! It doesn't smear on me but it will fade of water hits it so be wary of that if your eyes water a lot and you rub them.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen :) Again, I love your hair in this tutorial...how did you pin your hair up in the front and what kind of barrel did you use? do you curl one direction or both? thanks :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, with R&R blush discontinued, can you please recommend a blush which is similar to R&R Kinky?
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot :)
