SNSD "Run Devil Run" Taeyeon Inspired Makeup Tutorial

Hello lovelies! Today I have another Kpop-inspired look, since it's been a while since I posted my last one. This is inspired from a SNSD (aka Girl's Generation or 소녀시대) video from last year called "Run Devil Run" and is the makeup that the leader of the group Taeyeon wears.

So to preface this video, I just want to note how much a pain in the butt this tutorial was to create!

While I was recording, the sun quickly went down making the video coloring really dark and off. Then, several times throughout recording I had issues with application. My Dolly Wink liner was drying out and caused a bunch of wing attempts to look bad, which is why I switched over to the Eyeko liner later on. The first crystal I used was too large and I had to switch. Then, after applying the lashes my eyes decided to become uneven with one double-lid and one monolid. Even with editing the video, I finished editing in Windows Movie Maker and it wouldn't export due to an error (omg hours of work gone)! Had to completely reformat each raw video to work in iMovie and re-edit completely. >_<

Please forgive any weirdness going on here because it took a lot to get here and I debated not uploading it at all! -_-;;;

Anyway, here's the video. Hope you enjoy it~

If you've never heard of Girl's Generation then definitely check out their leggy, 9-girl awesomeness below. They are basically the most popular girl group in South Korea and watching their videos is like virtually playing with Barbie dolls. They are pretty, sing well, and have catchy, synchronized dance moves. Definitely eye candy for sure! ^_^

Here are some screen caps I took of Taeyeon's makeup from the video. The basic concept is a clean lid with heavy black eyeliner which is winged twice, and crystals at the outer eye corners. She also has a clean, glowy complexion and thick brows.

Products mentioned:

Urban Decay Primer Potion
Urban Decay Naked Palette (Naked, Virgin)
Dolly Wink Liquid Liner
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack
Eyeko Graffiti Pen Liner

criss-cross 3/4 lashes (I think it's Darkness brand?)
Nail art crystals
Urban Decay lash glue
NYX Mosaic powder in #1 Highlighter
MAC Spaced Out blush
Anastasia Brows In Bloom palette
Lioele Real Vivid Matte lipstick in Sandy Beige
Dior Addict Ultra Gloss in 517

Circle lenses are Neo Vision Queen Grey lenses from Pinky Paradise.
Use code FRMHEADTOTOE for a free beauty gift w/ each pair of circle lenses purchased.

And my facey face:

I wanted to show my hair but it's kind of a fail since I have a ton of baby hairs at the front-sides of my face so it doesn't look good on me! T^T
Obligatory smile cause that's how I roll.

One last attempt at looking angsty like I am angry at a devil 정말 bad boy.

I also recorded a look on IU for her "Real" album cover look recently so you can look forward to that as the next Kpop tutorial I have coming up.

Just for kicks, let me know in the comments who your favorite Girl's Generation member is! Not gonna lie, I do love Taeyeon but Tiffany is SUPER super adorable as well and happens to be Korean-American. Gotta rep my Korean-Americans! ;)

OOTD: Suspender Tights

Hello everyone! I hope you are seeing clearer skies than I am at the moment. We are stuck in some drizzly, druzzly, freezing rain/snow/sleet action and once again I am using my previously recorded photos and videos to live vicariously through my prior experiences. Warm and happy forever, I say!

Because of this glorious excuse, I am posting an outfit of the day from when we had a few short days of Spring preview weather. I'm quite sick of winter so as soon as it hit the 70's, my House of Holland suspender tights flew onto my legs (Literally, they flew across the room onto my legs. You should've seen it.) and I flew across my living room to set up my new tripod. See? I'm getting better! I finally used a tripod to record an "outfit of the day". *curtsy*

If you follow me on Twitter, you will know that the day I actually wore this outfit I had on my black Theory Gratti blazer which is a cuter, more cropped fit than what I'm wearing in this video but it's currently at the tailors being altered. As I rarely wear any outfit more than once, I wanted to record this outfit concept before it flew (Again? What's with all the flying?) out of my mind completely so please forgive the slouchy boyfriend-ish fit here!

 BCX blazer in XS
Pink blouse from Marshall's in S (similar here and here)
Mossimo white tank from Target in XS
Forever 21 dress shorts in XS (similar here)
Nine West peep-toe booties in 4 (nearly identical from Nine West here)
Silver rings from ebay and double-knuckle ring by Erica Anenberg

So there's also a bit of a story about this outfit. I was obviously feeling a bit self-conscious because I tend to be pretty conservative and not wear anything this risqué to work although I work in a creative department that can "get away" with wearing more fashiony or casual wear. On my way to lunch, I passed one of the directors who I saw give me an eye and then the Vice President of my department walked past as well while I was going up the stairs. Inside I was like OH NO DID I WEAR THE WRONG THING but shrugged it off and got in line for my food.

A couple minutes later I felt a tap on my shoulder from the VP.

He stopped me and said, "Can I just say--thank you. THANK YOU! You look fabulous today. Thank you. Thank you."

Needless to say, I was thoroughly embarrassed and flustered and flattered and had a big grin on my face for the next two hours. XD He even went to my manager and talked about my outfit and that he probably embarrassed me. Eeeeeeeeeee~

A couple more just 'cause. Here I am showcasing my grump face. I was having camera troubles. Lol.

And an example of why remotes are way better than camera timers, especially when you can only find the 2-second setting. MEGA FAIL!

Anyway, I hope you guys have a lovely day filled with people giving you lots of compliments that you can accept a little more gracefully than I was able to. Hermmm. Ahem. >_<

NYX Black Label Lipsticks - Review & Swatches

Hey-ey girls and boys. Today's post is about one of my favorite new lipsticks that I only recently tried and fell in love with: NYX Black Label Lipsticks (currently retails for $7.50 at If you are a regular follower of my blog you probably already know how in heart with NYX I am, and that I have a pretty sizable Round Lipstick (retails for $4) collection. I have some swatches of Rounds here but I've gotten so many more since that post. I always thought about trying out the higher-end Black Labels but were pretty happy with the Rounds that I never really checked them out.

Silly me, why had I never tried these before? XD

Here are my reviews and swatches in video form:

Products mentioned:
NYX Black Label Lipstick in
191 Bling
108 Dusty Rose
114 Diva
116 Orchid
105 Cherry

As I stated in the video, I am so in love with these lippies. They are more of what I like in lipsticks (moisturizing) without sacrificing gorgeous color. Compared to the NYX Round Lipsticks, they are slightly less opaque so you have to layer them on more to get the same intensity but I personally would rather have the added moisture. Not to mention, they smell so yummy! In the video I said they smell like Dimetapp but they also remind me of grape flavored Big League Chew gum. Wonderfully sweet, artificial grape flavoring. :D In comparison, the Round lippies are unscented which is better if you are sensitive to that sort of thing.

Pics of the lippies. They look MUCH more high-end than the Round lipsticks which are made of pretty cheap plastic and these have a cute black lace pattern as well. As with the rounds, the actual color is encapsulated in the bottom which is great for storage.

Here are some pics of my face and close-ups so you can see how they look on. I think you can't ever really just tell how they look from only close-ups so I hope this is helpful. I'd say they are more opaque than Maybelline Moisture Extreme lipstick but still as moisturizing.

NYX Black Label Lipstick - 191 Bling

NYX Black Label Lipstick - 108 Dusty Rose

NYX Black Label Lipstick - 114 Diva

NYX Black Label Lipstick - 116 Orchid

NYX Black Label Lipstick - 105 Cherry

And here are some hand swatches so you can get a fair comparison of the shades with each other.

indirect natural light

direct sunlight

All in all, I think that the lower-end Round lipsticks are fab for the makeup kit since there are so many colors and they are inexpensive for good quality but for my own daily wear, the Black Label lipsticks have bumped waaaaaaay up to the top of my list. I'm pretty picky about the dryness of lipsticks and I won't wear one that dries my lips out so these are the perfect balance for me.

I will actually apologize for giving these such high praises because I can't think of anything bad to say about them. Maybe you won't like them if you don't like artificial grape flavoring or if you want the opaquest color in one swipe. Personally, I'm 100% for sure going to add more colors to my new collection! I can't wait to try more colors. :D

So have you tried these before? Do you have color recommendations? Which color do you think looks best on me? Give me some feedback in the comments!

Disclaimer: NYX asked to send some things (because they saw how obsessed I am with them already...ha) and I chose the black label lipsticks to review. I was not paid in any way nor required to do a review for the samples. All my reviews, as always, are 100% my honest opinion. :)

Valentine's Day Sexy Smoky Eye Makeup

Hello ladies and gents. I'm not sure why I'm drawn to do tutorials for Valentine's Day more than other holidays, but this is actually one where I did a look last year as well as this year. I think it's mostly because it gives me an excuse to wear hot pink eyeshadow (yay!) which might otherwise look--shall we say--less than demure. A lot of girls seem to think that it will make them look sickly or like they got punched in the face, which is obviously not what one wants to give the impression of on the big day of love.

Personally, I think it's all about the secondary color you use to hug the hot pink. Pretty Valentine's Day appropriate, no?

Products used:
Skin79 Hot Pink bb cream (not shown)
Urban Decay Primer Potion
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean
NYX Single Eyeshadow in Hot Pink
Wet & Wild Color Icon Palette in Night Elf (matte black and white shimmer)
NYX Single Eyeshadow in Wildflower
Eyeko Graffiti Eyeliner in black
FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen Mascara
Darkness lashes in VXA
Lioele Artist Auto Eyebrow pencil in Grey Black
Rock & Republic Contrived Pressed Blush in Kinky
Lioele Real Vivid Matte Lipstick in 6 Sandy Beige
Dior Addict Ultragloss in 517

Here are some pics of the final look. My apologies that the colors make it look like I'm wearing purple and brown (the video is more true-to-life) but at least you can see the glowiness that you get from layering the base and shadow. Still testing out lighting for both video and photos and it's a work in progress. :)

Can I just mention that I'm a little in love with my Lioele Real Vivid Matte lipstick in Sandy Beige? It is such a cute peachy nude on me, and a lot more wearable than my brown-nude NYX Round Lipsticks in Circe or Rea.

This is my sexy face (see video at 0:18). Basically, this is how I turn the guys on. (Bwahahah, duck lips.)

Obviously, this isn't the most complicated look but it works with any other color as your basic colored smokey-eye. It's not too difficult for those experimenting with doing smokey eyes for the first time as well. To get a more wearable Valentine's Day look, check out my video from last year. ^_^

Happy pre-Valetine's Day to those in relationships, and for those not in a relationship, you can do a green or blue smokey eye in protest. Angst!

Hope that was helpful and have fun practicing. Let me know in the comments your Valentine's Day plans are and whether they are pink or blue. ;)

FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen Mascara Review & Comparison

Hi everyone! As many of you already know, I really love trying out different Japanese and Korean cosmetics, especially mascaras. I find that my Asian lashes pretty much hate 90% of American mascaras because they don't seem to do much for my downward-pointing, stick-straight lashes. In contrast, many Japanese mascaras have seemed to perform significantly better at giving me a long-lash look.

This is why I was super SUPER excited when I was told that FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen mascara is coming to Sephora on February 10th! Finally, would we be able to find a cute, reliable Japanese mascara in the US?

Here are some photos of the product itself. This is a screencap from the video of the brush, which is a unique 3-puff fibrous brush in an arched shape which is intended to hug your lashes and curl them. There are also fibers in this water-resistant mascara to help lengthen lashes.

The fancy-pants packaging. Super duper cute and over the top. ^_^

FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen vs. FAIRYDROPS original mascara

Just in case it's helpful, here's the bottom sticker

Size comparison to my hand

Size comparison to Covergirl Lash Exact mascara. It's shorter and slightly fatter,
but Scandal Queen has 7.2 ml while Covergirl Lash Exact has only 4 ml.

To break it down, here's what each mascara claims to do:

Original: Waterproof, volumizing, curls
Scandal Queen: Water-resistant, lengthening with fibers, volumizing, curls

Sorry about the no-makeup photos here but I really wanted to show a fair evaluation of the mascara's performance on its own. There's really no better way than to wear no makeup in my opinion. Just ignore the end-of-the-day deathliness. ;)

No mascara, curled lashes only. Pretty sad-looking to be honest. XD

1 coat of mascara
Scandal Queen on the left / Original on the right

2 coats of mascara
Scandal Queen on the left / Original on the right
I want to note here that you can really see the lengthening properties of the Scandal queen on my lower lashes on the left here. They look as long as my top lashes on the right!

2 coats of mascara
Original at an angle

2 coats of mascara
Scandal Queen at an angle

In actuality, my upper lashes are longer with the Scandal Queen mascara (you can tell in the blurry background of the "Original at an angle" photo) but the curl-holding ability isn't awesome enough to show it at this angle. It doesn't suck 100% since I do have 75% of the curl in the first image, but not dramatic enough to be what I would go for personally.

In contrast, check out the Original's mega curl-holding abilities in both photos! Very impressive, which is why I love it so much. Overall, I have to say that the Original is still the big winner in my book which I think is pretty obvious in the photos. Not perfect, since it gets a bit clumpy and doesn't lengthen as much as I'd love, but still a good go-to mascara.

I give the Scandal Queen a 7/10 because it's performance is not bad as it does lengthen and volumize as promised, but it's only medium on the curling front. It does keep lashes soft and pliable though, and is probably better for your lash health than a waterproof mascara. It's also removed easily with my regular face wash.

The original I give an 8.5/10 since it holds curl and volumizes but it doesn't lengthen much and it gets clumpy if you're not careful. It's also difficult to remove and you really need a good waterproof eye-makeup remover to get it off.

I hope that was helpful for those interested. Maybe some of you with longer lashes than me will get better results. I'm actually going to test it more to see if it will work well as a second-step over other mascaras to help lengthen and volumize my more "clean" mascaras like Covergirl Lash Exact. Also, I've been talking with the rep for FAIRYDROPS and he said he's trying to get the waterproof version over as well if the first goes well so if you'd like that, give them feedback!

Valentine's Day look from this video coming soon. :) Let me know if you plan on picking it up, and let me know what you thought of it!

Disclaimer: A rep from FAIRYDROPS send me the Scandal Queen mascara for consideration. I purchased the Original version myself. All my reviews, as always, are my 100% honest opinion. :)

OOTD: Autumn colors

Just wanted to post another quick outfit of the day. This is a very, very typical daily outfit for me but this time the colors are what really make the outfit. The combo of burgundy and gold seem really retro and current at the same time, which I love. Nothing too fancy. The components make up the basics of my "must have" closet items which go as follows:
  1. Cardigan
  2. Interesting top
  3. Some layers underneath (since I'm always cold)
  4. Skinny jeans or leggings
  5. Boots

J. Crew merino chiffon-placket cardigan size XXS (similar herehere and here)
Loft satin shell with faux necklace (similar here and here)
Random black lace panel tank top (similar here, here and here)
Seven For All Mankind kids jeans (similar here, womens here)
Franco Sarto "Track" Riding Boots (similar here and here)
He Qi Crystal Designs earrings

I wanted to show the back of the outfit because I hand washed the cardigan in hot water to shrink it. You can see it fits very well now! Before, it was a bit baggier on the torso but now it's perfect.

Here's a close-up of the top. I LOVE this top from LOFT because the color and material look so classy, and the built-in necklace really makes it special. Since I wear cardigans almost daily, I love adding something embellished underneath to catch the eye. I also adore the pretty flower attached to the shoulder. :)

That's it for the outfit! I hope you enjoyed it this time and let me know in the comments what colors you have been leaning toward this season. I'm so looking forward to mint green and coral for the upcoming Spring (which is funny as we are buried under snow at the moment). ;)
