Miss A "Touch" MV Makeup Tutorial

One of the things I love most about doing Youtube is that I get to share a part of my past and culture with other people. Kpop is something I've loved since I was a little girl listening to 룰라 (I was as obsessed with 비밀은없어 as I was with Ace of Base's The Sign) while dancing in my living room, so I of course think it's so amazing that new Korean music is sent to me through e-mail, youtube, and twitter messages requesting tutorials for the latest songs.

Lately, I've had a flood of requests for Miss A's "Touch" and when I queued up the video, I immediately saw why...

Here is Miss A's video:

And here is my tutorial:

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:
Makeup Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ in 40
MAC Select Cover-up in NC30
Urban Decay Primer Potion
NYX Slide-On Pencil in Gunmetal
Urban Decay Mariposa Palette (Gunmetal)
Wet n Wild Gel liner in black
Shiseido Eyelash Curler
Urban Decay Cannonball mascara
Nail art rhinestones
Tony Moly Tear Glitter Eye Powder
Josie Maran bronzer in Beach #1
NYX Round Lipstick in Circe
Urban Decay Super-Saturated lip color in Crush
Lioele Auto-Eyebrow Pencil

For reference, I took a few screencaps. As you can see, the feel of this video is very edgy and almost gothic with sharp winged eyeliner, crystals adorning the eyes, and babydoll stained lips.

For my version, I chose to do a monolid version using a charcoal grey wing and spidery lower lashes. The crystals right beneath the eyes add interest while the rest of the face is kept relatively plain to keep focus on the eyes and lips.

One of the biggest highlights of this look are the stained lips. This type of gradient lip is quite popular in Asia since it gives the appearance of a smaller, babydoll mouth.

Here you can see the straight line from the outer corner of the wing to the middle of my eyelid. This photo also shows the soft double wing on the lower lash line as well as the bronzer used to contour my nose and cheeks.

Overall, I feel like this is a sharp look for going out on the weekend. It's not your typical smokey eye and nude lip but it still gives the same sort of edgy feeling.

I hope you guys enjoyed watching and let me know in the comments what you'd like to see for future tutorials!

  8. I love how you shaped the eyeshadow! Such a beautiful look for monolids! :) I like the ombre effect of the lip but the nude outer shade is just a little too stark/skin like.

  9. ahh finally tonymoly product!! Even though I only tried their eyeliner and one lipstick,
I love that brand! Their eyeliner is known for Kim Yuna's eyeliner and dupe for Bobbi Brown's gel liner.
I have very super duper oily lids and BB's liner didn't survive at all but TM did!!!!! I'm so happy that it did!!
and their lipsticks are gorgeous! pigmented and moisturizing!
they have several types for lipsticks and i've tried kisslover in #3 i guess..
and it's pretty nude color! >A<//

  14. I was hoping you were going to do a tutorial for this MV! The make up was the first thing I noticed when I saw the MV for the first time (I also really like the song). Looking at the screen caps, I can now see the gradient effect of the stain lips. Awesome tutorial!

  21. Hey Jen! Love your hair in the tutorial, what curling iron did you use? Or did you use straight iron? Thanks :)

    1. I used a straight iron! I have an older tutorial for how I curl with a flat iron but it wasn't very good... maybe I'll have to make a newer, better one for the technique I use now. :)

  24. SO pretty! I love this look! The first time I ever saw a stained lip like this was on Angelina Jolie in one of her first movies. I can't remember off the top of my head right now which movie it was, but it was an orange stain which made it look like she had just eaten a orange popsicle. Of course, paired with her famous lips, I was in love. :) I love how you recreated because I've always wondered how it could be achieved.

  28. I love how you used the bronzer as a blush. When I use such a natural colored blush as such on my cheeks, it often makes me look even more pale or the colors don't distribute evenly on my cheeks.

  29. I think you look prettier than the pop star! Btw I have purchased some of the products you have featured on your site...love them! Thanks!

  30. Hey Jen,

I am a long-time fan! <3 From one Korean-American girl to another: my boyfriend of 8 years really wants my family's approval for marriage, but he is not Korean and my family is against it. Do you have any suggestions to help my family come around? We are really right for each other, but I can't seem to get my family to understand that. I don't know anyone personally who has this situation, and I would really appreciate your input! Thank you so much~ you are an inspiration, and thanks for making us smile! ^_^

  31. Jen, Am a big fan of your blog. I watch your blog on the way from work and it makes my over 40 minutes drive fun. Can you please, please, please do a video on how to complete brows? I have short and sparse brows and have trouble making them as nice as yours! AND I'd like to know how I can apply mascara so I don't have dark under eyes in the afternoon from the mascara run. I tried various kinds (expensive to cheap, regular to waterproof) and different methods (applying powder over, arching w/ curlers) but none worked :( THanks!!!

  32. Jen, I loved this look! It's so gorgeous. I always love all of the K-pop makeup tutorials you do. I have a suggestion for a future video, but it's not a tutorial type of video, but I think it's really an important one. Do you think you could do a video on when to dispose of your makeup products? (i.e. mascara, powders, liquid foundations, eyeshadow, etc.) How long do you keep your BB creams before you throw them out???

  33. love your pics!! I would always sing ROO-RA songs at my no-re-bang waaaay back when.... :)

  34. YAY! you finally posted a new tutorial! I love your makeup tutorials... your product reviews are good, but not nearly has helpful as your visual tutorials (because you're Asian like me) :) Keep up the great work I love your blog.
