Romantic Violet Makeup Tutorial

10:40 PM

Valentine's Day (or Single Awareness Day, as some might say) is right around the corner and as I was thinking of what makeup to do this year, I came back to an old color favorite of mine, purple.

In my humble opinion, if you are going to wear a color but still want to look classy the easiest colors to reach for are purple and green. One just happens to be a little more romantic than the other and therefore became the inspiration of today's look!

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:

Skin79 VIP Gold BB Cream
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation in 60
Tarte Smooth Operator Powder
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Trucco Holographic Color Collection Palette
NYX Eyeshadow in Purple
L'Oreal HIP Duo in Electrified (plum)
MAC Shroom Eyeshadow
Wet n Wild Gel Eyeliner
Stila Kajal Pencil in Topaz
NYX Jumbo Pencil in Cottage Cheese
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
Urban Decay Cannonball mascara
NARS Danmari Palette (Desire)
Dior Shimmer Powder in Amber Diamonds
Lioele Blooming Pop Cherry Tint
NYX Round Lipstick in Circe

Here are the pics of the final look!

See what I mean about purple not being too flashy? I think it's actually really flattering for daytime wear, especially if you have brown eyes. :)

You can also see the lips better in this image. Layering the nude lipstick on top of the red lip stick gives a soft milky pink look. These gradient lips are done frequently in Korean videos and dramas and I think it's a fun way to gracefully wear red on your lips without looking over-the-top.

Here you can see the glow of the holographic eyeshadow. It has a really lovely energy to it when you see it in person.

And in the spirit of Valentine's Day, here's a heart for you, my dear readers! I love you dearly and I'm thankful for you everyday!

Thank you so much for reading and even if you are alone this February 14th, I want to send lots of warmth and love in your direction. Love isn't always just romance and candy hearts, it's reaching out to others, appreciating your friends and family, and sharing hope and happiness.

I know it's impossible for me to physically touch all of you through my little computer screen, but just know that if I could, I would hug you. I appreciate you and you give me hope on days where I do feel lost and alone.

Now lets all spread that love like a virus! Fighting!

  36. this tutorial came pretty opportune since i've been trying out different purple looks for tomorrow! even though the products I have are really different in terms of color and stuff, I loved the lower lash winged eyeliner tip! and the holographic palette is pretty cool, but since I didn't have that -- I did a purple eyeliner as base, then grey-silver on top of that before adding light purple/light pink eyeshadow!!! :)

  42. This is such a cute look! Thanks for sharing!

I have a question though. When my eyes are open it looks like I have no crease, but they are just folded inside and completely hidden (does that make sense?). So because of all the hidden eyelid skin, most of the eyeliner and eyeshadow gets hidden. Once, I tried to see how much liner I'd need to have the liner show up for that eye widening effect, and boy did it look a train wreck with more than half my eyelid black and STILL almost nothing showing when I open my eyes. So I was wondering if you have any tips for monolids like mine??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Your eyes are what they say in Korean is a "inner/hidden" crease. The crease is there but when the eyes are open it looks like a monolid. I find that the best way to apply eye makeup is similar to a traditional monolid for eyeliner. Thicker but not so crazy thick it goes above the crease. Just enough so it gets emphasis when you look down or blink. If you then feather the eyeshadow color up in a gradient it should look flattering. :)

  44. Hi Jen
I noticed that in your older posts, you wear eyelid tape.
But do you still wear them these days?

I have heard that you can 'train' your eyelid to open in a certain way if you wear tape for a period of time.
After that, you don't need the tape.
    Is this true?

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I haven't worn tapes in a long time! Usually if I want to have a crease I just put on false lashes instead. Wearing tape regularly can create a permanent crease in some people though. It really depends on that person's eye shape. :)

  51. Hey Jen! I'm a 19 y.o girl. And I just wanna ask you a few question. Since you'vebeen together with your man for quite a long time (the dating + marriage) do you ever felt like your relationship is flat and you can't tell if you still have feelings for him? And if you have felt like this before, can you tell me how to deal with it? I know this question is silly, not to mention very personal :( thanks anw Jen. Keep rocking! :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think every relationship has its ups and downs but one way to avoid the "flat" slump is to figure out what fills up your significant other's love bank. If it's compliments or little notes or just a hug, if you mutually do these things to keep each other feeling appreciated then the relationship tends to be much smoother. It's all about communicating your love and appreciation. :)

  55. Hi Jen! This is my first time commenting, and I want to thank you for your posts and videos! I do have a question for you: my eyes are rather widely spaced apart (I'm asian), but many of your tutorials have eye makeup that accentuate the outer corners of the eyes which make my eyes look even wider. Is there a way to avoid that but still keep the amazing looks that you show us? Thanks a bunch! Hope you can reply. :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Like you said, I would avoid using too much dark color on the outer corners of your eyes and instead use black liner on the inner corners. Also, for the brighter color that you may put on the center of your lids, apply it slightly closer to the inner part of your eyes instead of exactly center. Hope that helps!
