Natural Beachy Olsen Waves! Remington Air Wave Review
10:01 PMHello everyone! Today I have a hair tutorial to share with you. To give a little background on my hair, when I was younger (before puberty) I had crazy long, stick-straight hair. I'm talking butt-length pigtails hanging down from the sides of my head at age 9. It was incredibly stubborn to curl and I did manage to do that a couple times with hairspray-crunchy locks which looked like giant black sausages. SEXY! Okay, maybe that's a little inappropriate as 9-year olds should not be sexy, nor attempt to be sexy but I do assure you that my hair was the opposite of sexy. I could go further into this but long story short, I know what it's like to have hair that just won't seem to keep a curl.
After I got into my teens my hair started doing this weird straight-wavy thing where it couldn't make up its mind until it finally settled into my current inconsistent waves. Thank goodness it did since I am terribly low-maintenance when it comes to my hair, but I just wish it could do the gorgeous beachy look naturally! Because of this tendency to not take a ton of effort to style my hair most days, I happen to adore the product I'm about to share with you because it's a no-brainer. Perfect beachy Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen waves that I've always wanted? Check. Easy learning curve? Check.
Here's my video showing you how to use the Remington Air Wave, a product that Hannah told me about. It's totally as awesome as she said it was!
So here's the low-down on the pros and cons:
The Good
- inexpensive (around $23 on Amazon)
- easy to use
- works pretty well as a regular hairdryer
- AWESOME waves that are difficult to achieve otherwise
- works well for hair that is stubborn to curl
- looks really nice on those with non-layered hair especially
- curl lasts days or until I shower next
The Bad
- a tad bit noisier than other more expensive dryers
- takes up extra storage space
- can make your hair frizzy from air-waving it
All in all, I was highly impressed. I thought only people with naturally perfectly wavy hair could get this hairstyle but look Om-ma! It's not so difficult after all. ^o^
Here's some pics
View from the back. I kind of love this picture. Don't mind my bizarre sweatpants outfit. ;D
And just because she's a charm to end with, here's a little more Mary-Kate Olsen because I adore her. <3 <3
Tell me what you think in the comments! Are you going to pick one up? Have you heard of this before? Do you have naturally perfectly wavy hair that I might want to cut off your hair and make a wig for myself (eww)? Until next time~
UPDATE: I heard people are having difficulty finding the Airwave! I guess it sold out on Amazon. I asked Remington's customer service and they said you can purchase it at Walmart but I'd call and check before you go.

pretty nice product, I like the result hihi, ur hair is beautiful ^^!
ReplyDeleteJen! Are you still using your wonder tape in this post or just using you falsies to create the double lids?
ReplyDeleteI love the Wavy hair!! One of those looks that I can't get in a permanent perm. Will try and give it a go!
=*
Mayumi: I'm wearing just falsies in this post. ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, it makes me wish I had naturally straight hair, it would be impossible for me to do this without ironing all my hair first =( I think the more you brush it out the better it looks too, really wavy in the middle then straight at the ends.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I'll definitely look into the product~! Thanks Jen. :)
ReplyDeleteomg its gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteive ALWAYS wanted that beachy wavy hair!

ReplyDeletehey jen! do you think the air wave would work/look good on on shoulder length hair?
ReplyDeleteI love the wavy look on you! I have a really old waver that is about to break:(
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!
are you still using skin79 hot pink?
ReplyDeleteWow, that's pretty cool! *o* Great review! Do you think you can achieve Japanese style curls through this product as well?
ReplyDeleteI'm a curly girl, but I think this hair dryer would do some really interesting things to my hair too! I kinda want to try it. Thanks for the vid. :)
ReplyDeleteMy hair's pretty easy to manipulate and I hand twirl it just in halves to wave it.. but I'm definitely thinking about ordering one of these. They're just so much more efficient x_x .. Very helpful review, Jen! I always end up wanting to buy everything.
ReplyDeletei missed your posts, jen! nice hair gadget...wish there's one available here in the Philippines... =)
ReplyDeleteZoooooomg that's perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour hair is beautiful too, doesn't seem dried or damaged at all~
Sadly I don't think I will buy this, because I wash my hair the night before and let it air dry (aka. I am beyond this level of laziness to the point where I don't even blowdry my hair)
Interesting hairdryer ^^. You look pretty as usual
ReplyDeletewow!! that's amaaaazing!!! being the lazy person that I am & someone who doesn't really know how to use a curling iron, I so need that in my life.. LOL... I have short hair though, do you think that'll work with short hair?? your hair looks so purrty! thanks for sharing sweetie!
ReplyDeleteIts pretty look. I love it.
ReplyDeleteWow its really a pretty wavy look.Where did you get it? I checked Amazon but I guess they sold out!!

ReplyDeletei miss doing my hair..yours look pretty :) wish it didn't damage our hair though.
ReplyDeletethat is so cool. thanking for sharing that. i'm so sick of using hair curler to achieve that look. I might invest in one of those.
ReplyDeleteyour hair curls look so great!
ReplyDeleteI love the effect from the straightener
That's an amazing hairdryer! My sister and me are totally converting to this dryer haha XD I just need to wait until my hair gets a little longer...can't wait to see more tutorials and things~ :D
ReplyDeleteI picked this up a while ago and it's really useful for casual waves! It's nice that it's an attachment so you can take it off if you don't want to use it all the time.
ReplyDeleteI love this look on you. ^^
ReplyDeleteBtw, where did you get that sweater? It's really cute.
grow your bangs and it'll look even cuter when everything's curled!
ReplyDeletehow long did it take to do your whole head? i guess time would be my biggest factor...
Woah, this is so cool! :)
ReplyDeletehehe , now i want it .
Wow I love the curls! So pretty! I may have to get this... :X Another thing to add to my list.. hehe.

ReplyDeleteYour hair story sounds exactly like mine! I used to have pin-straight hair too.. up until the 7th grade and then it started curling like crazy. My mom couldn't understand why. That's awesome to hear that I wasn't the only one who went through that.
ReplyDeletelove the curls!
ReplyDeletevery nice =D it looks a bit scary (because the "tunnel" is so huge) at first but the outcome is gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteomigosh that is so cool! I'm gettin' one! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhoa how trippy! I've never seen anything like that before! Definitely very cool... now I want to go get one :) I wish they sell it as a stand-alone attachment so that I don't have an extra dryer laying around though.
ReplyDeleteJen.. this product has been discontinued. I contacted Remington and they said they don't make it anymore :*(
ReplyDeleteDo you know is there's a similiar product out there?
ReplyDeleteJen, you look gorgeous! Your tutorial has convinced me to buy this product. Unfortunately, after MUCH searching, I can't find this anywhere in Canada or online that ships here. But for you lucky U.S. residents out there, the Remington 3-in-1 Styler Hair dryer has the "beach wave" attachment. It's available on Amazon.com, Target and Wal-Mart.
ReplyDeleteYay...THANK YOU SYLVIA!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I'm gonna go hunt for it now. =)
ReplyDeletenice hair do!
ReplyDeletewow, i would love to trade my wavy hair for your straight hair!! =)
ReplyDeletelol
I can't find the remington airwave blow dryer anywhere :( your hair looks amazing! My hair is the type that will not curl very well with a curling iron. I was hoping this would work. Thanks for the tutorial, Jen!
ReplyDeletehey jen!
ReplyDeletei was wondering if you can post the link where you purchased the airwave from please!
thanks so much ;]
The Remington 3 in 1 Styler is a fab substitute, it was on sale for 26.45 + tax=28 dollars at Target!
ReplyDeleteWoah, your hair looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteAhhh! Why didn't I know about these things when I had long hair!! I'm so clumsy with curlers & irons but this really looks like something even I could have done LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh well. I guess I'm just not made for long hair lol...
Your hair looks so gorgeous! I dont think I could pull a look like that off. I don't seem to have the right attire or facial structure... it'd make me look to round for my taste lol O.o.
ReplyDeleteactually remington now makes a hair dryer that is a 3in1 style with three hook on pieces that you can interchange pertty neat...Target and amazon.com all have them runs about $25-30...
ReplyDeletei don't know what you're talking about.. you'd make a great rasta! hahahaa (;
ReplyDeleteafter seeing this review, i looked everywhere online, amazon and walmart were both out. :(
ReplyDeletebut then i went shopping today at target, and found a 3 in 1 remington and the airwave part is also included :) loooove it ! i spent a total of $29.xx. including tax hehe =]

ReplyDeletehaha.. that's awesome! i'm def intrigued! =D

ReplyDeleteit's also in the remington 3 in 1 styler...
the airwave is one styler that comes in the set of three!
it's my 1st time to have seen such a blow dryer! what is it called? i love the outcome of the curls it looks really good on you! :)
ReplyDelete어...예쁜다!
ReplyDeleteHey Jen, I loved the look so I went out and bought one. Yes it is sold out in Amazon but I actually found it at Target. It's called REMINGTON style. It has the eco setting. This has 3 attachments, the volumizer, sleek hair, and the beach waver attachment. I wanted to ask you though if it made a difference if your hair is thick or thin as to how thick the strand of hair you put in should be. You said two or more and at the highest setting. I am filipina and my hair is pretty thick.
ReplyDeletehi jen! just wondering what foundation you're currently using? it looks so natural on you!!
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time finding this product too under the Air Wave (or Airwave) name but thanks to the comments on here I was about to find the 3 in 1 styler on Amazon: Remington 3-in-1 Styler
ReplyDeleteThe Remington Airwave is still out of stock at Amazon, so do you know where else I could get this cool hair dryer?
ReplyDeleteit's available on amazon again! i just ordered one, can't wait to try it!

ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where you can find it? @_____________@ i've been going in circles looking for one! S.O.S pleaseeeee >_<;; thanks! <3
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to get this look and my super straight hair dont stay and i hate spending my time curling with a curl iron.. Im so going to get it tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI really want this! But it's not available on Amazon and it says it's discontinued by the manufacturer :( Do you know where I can still find it?
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! I finally received mine from ebay and did a review from my blog! Thanks so much for sharing this eheheh love it!
ReplyDeletehi, where can i buy this product now? seems to be unavailable anywhere. pls advise. thanks!
ReplyDeletewalmart has it again! around $19.xx!
ReplyDeleteI checked and Target, Walmart, and Amazon do NOT have these in stock. I then contacted customer service at Remington and they told me that both the Airwave and the Remington 3 in 1 styler have been discontinued and they had no remaining stock.
ReplyDeleteI happened to find a 3 in 1 online at http://www.farmandfleet.com/products/661467-3_in_1_styler_dryer.html?source=googleps but now it looks like it's only available in store, and they only have shops in IL, IA, and WI.
Hmm, they have this available on Amazon UK marketed as the "Spin Curl" but I suppose it would require a power converter: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Remington-D1001-Spin-Curl-Dryer/dp/B002C1AYB0
ReplyDeleteI tried to buy the Remington Spin Curl from the Amazon UK site, but they do not ship to the U.s. I did find the Remington 3-in-1 Styler at Target tonight, and it has the beachwave attachement!!! Can't wait to try this out!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it only work on wet hair or also in dry hair?
ReplyDeleteHey, just curious - I jsut stumbled upon your blog and was wondering if there is any product you've found comparable to this. Unfortunately I think it's out of production :(((
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS, btw.
I found this at target the other day! It is the remington 3 in 1. So it may be discontinue online but still in stores. I snatched it up! Still playing with it, but I love it. Time saving way to get waves :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, just want to let you and your readers know that I found a dupe for this dryer. It’s another model from Remington that has the funnel attachment.

ReplyDeleteThat's what my hair just looks like when it has airdried--but with a side of extra frizz. Believe me, you can get tired of hair that always wants to look like you just left the beach.
ReplyDeletenice, looks amazing, thanks for the tips, I personally prefer the Karmin Salon Pro Professional Hair Dryer which keeps my hair smooth , shiny and with volume. :D
