TUTORIAL: Lorde - "Royals" Inspired Makeup

5:00 PM

Hey everyone! Today I have an eyeliner-based makeup tutorial that I am very much excited to share, mainly because the couple of times I did this look I was completely in love. Ever since I first heard Lorde's "Royals" it has been my favorite pre-Fall jam. There's something about it that is really edgy yet basic, which also reflects this cut-crease winged liner inspired by her look in the music video.

Check out the tutorial and more photos below!

Here is the music video for Lorde - Royals:

And here is my final look. When looking down you can see that I adapted the crease line to fit my own eye shape, which I would recommend if you plan on recreating it. Since I have monolids, I used false eyelashes to push my crease line up first and worked the liner shape into that crease.

The tricky part of the whole effect is getting a simple winged liner look when the eyes are open. It's a very cool effect when you are blinking which I showed in my Instagram video from today.

It may take a few attempts before you get it perfect (I definitely did a test run beforehand and had to work slowly for the tutorial) but the result is more than worth the effort! It helps to keep a makeup wipe on hand as well as a couple of cotton buds to clean up any imperfections as you go.

The good thing is that since there isn't too much shadow with this look, it actually lasts very well throughout the day and has an unexpectedly wearable yet fashion-forward appeal. If you try this out, please send me photos on Twitter and Facebook! I'd love to see how it looks on you. :)

Readers, will you be trying this look? Do you experiment with your eyeliner or keep it the same everyday? Let me know in the comments!

    1. I actually layered 2 pairs of lashes (1 thin criss-cross and 1 natural wispy ones) which is what makes it look so natural. You should try it!
