awards and a little bit about me...

10:52 AM

I know I've had a few awards and tags and I'm so sorry if I missed one of you but I am so incredibly grateful! Just totally humbled that you guys would think of my blog. Thank you so much, especially to Diane, Yinmei, and Alicia.

Just because I (am/was) on my lunch break at work and haven't updated in a few days (crazy, busy and fun memorial day weekend!) I thought I would fill in a little survey that I saw on one of my favorite nail blogs, Gettin' Nailed from the self-proclaimed "The Asian Girl". Not only did I learn from her blog that May is the official Asian Pacific American Heritage Month for the US, but I love her commentary and nail swatches. :)

Rules:

1. Respond and rework: Answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.

2. Tag eight other people.

What is your current obsession? Blushes and Lipsticks. I used to be a gloss-only girl but maybe I am getting older or something. Strange!

What is your weirdest obsession? Weirdest...probably my insatiable love of sparkly, shiny things only because I am so easily distracted. Maybe that isn't so weird though, so how about that I own maybe 20+ pairs of jeans. I LOVE jeans. You can never, ever have too many.

What are you wearing today? A blue nautical-ish cotton blazer by BB Dakota, pink eyelet-detailed tee from Delia's, Solana dark wash skinnies from Pac Sun, and white studded gladiators by Michael Kors kids

What's your favorite comfort food? jjajangmyun (Korean noodle dish with black bean sauce, veggies, and pork or seafood)

What would make today special? If the sun is shining by the time I leave work, and not thunderstorming!

What would you like to learn to do? I would love to learn a bit of photography eventually, and also how to alter clothing like a pro

What's the last thing you bought? Estee Lauder lipgloss and Smashbox blush and lipgloss from beautyticket.com (take10 code for 10% off!)

What are you listening to right now? my computer whirring (psycho machine at work) and Loveline on my ipod

What is your favorite weather? Springtime in the high 70's. Warm enough for shorts and sandals but not hot enough to sweat.

What is your most challenging goal right now? Working on my portfolio and finding a stable design job

What do you think about the person who tagged you? I wasn't actually tagged, but I think The Asian Girl seems like a ton of fun.

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would it be? Oh man. Such a difficult question. Probably here at home so that even if I am not here, I could gift it to my family or people I care about.

If you could swap lives with anyone for one day who would it be and why? I think it would be really interesting to see what life is like behind Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan just because their lives are so chaotic. I think I would learn a lot and appreciate my own life too... as long as I could switch back!

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go? I would love to be scuba diving off the beaches of Australia! I think coral reefs are beautiful.

What would you like to have in your hands right now? my husband's hands :)

Which language do you wanna learn? Mandarin

What do you look for in a friend? A good sense of humor and trustworthiness

Who do you want to meet in person? I know it's silly, but I would love to meet the band Hanson. I've been a longtime fan and am quite inspired by their talent and musicality. :)

What's your favorite type of music? I have a huge range of things I listen to from Nine Inch Nails to BoA to French electronic to latin music/reggaeton to Britney Spears. Muse is one of my favorite bands of all time. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Family Force 5 and Kpop. I have a soft spot for the Postal Service and Imogen Heap. I just love anything catchy with a good beat. That can be rock, pop, alternative, indie, electronic, vocal... I don't discriminate and I'm open-minded when it comes to music.

What's your dream job? I would loooove to work in toy or shoe design!

If you had $100 now what would you spend it on? Oh dang, maybe a new purse? Or I'd put it toward a new digital camera I think.

Things you wish you could change in the past? I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that what you have gone through points to where you are now. I'm happy with who I am now and I wouldn't want to change that.

Fashion Pet Peeve? Tribal prints. I know "world prints" are really popular right now, but I think it's a bit tacky and busy.

Do you admire anyone's style? I really love how Rachel Bilson dresses. She really knows how to flatter her petite frame.

Describe your personal style. I would say I am pretty fashion-forward for the midwest. I dress with a lot of layers and love accessories, and a good pair of jeans. The biggest thing is balance and proportion. I also tend to dress how I feel that particular day. If I feel scrubby I don't dress up and sometimes, I get dressy for the heck of it. I love trying unique things and gravitate toward detail and color. In a few words, youthful, classy, and put-together whether I am dressed up or down.

What's your favorite ice cream flavor? Cookies and cream, and green tea when I can find it (although I can't have too much since I don't usually drink/eat caffeine)

What's your favorite makeup brand? Low-end, NYX. Higher end, Mac and Urban Decay are on my love list.

What makeup do you use a lot? Urban Decay Primer Potion, nearly everyday, and MAC fluidline in Blacktrack

Do you get enough beauty sleep? Yes or no? Why? Probably not! I stay up too late for having to wake up when I do. I used to do consecutive days on 3-4 hours during school but now if I get less than 8 I am a tired mess!

Why did you start your (beauty) blog? Someone on the Soompi forums suggested that I do after I did a couple of makeup tutorials for the boards.

What do you think is the best feature about yourself? I'm very genuine. What you see is what you get... online, in person, whatever. I'm very bad at being fake and I'm just more comfortable being myself.

What is your favorite vacation spot? Florida! Sweet, sweet sunshine, dolphins, the beach, and Disney. :D

What do you like least about yourself? Perpetually 15 minutes late. T.T

How many pairs of shoes do you own? Oh geez. TOO MANY. Probably at least 40 pairs. Hello, shoe sale! I need to get rid of a few pairs!

I tag... I am going to tag a random few of my favorite girlies who are frequent commenters on my posts! Gotta give some of that love back.

In no particular order:
Catherine
IchigoBunnie
innerchild
Caroline :]
AbcGrrrL
CHOMSIRI
Askmewhats
izumi

Also, if you read all of this I think I pretty much love you to bits. You are now tagged for this survey and for the award.

  1. :) I liked reading the bits and pieces for the about you part, I was just wondering why you would like to learn the language Mandarin in particular? =O Its an interesting language too, and I've tried learning but could only get a grasp of it since I mainly speak cantonese! xD I really love your style! It's so simple and chic, and I have a question to ask- here in Canada, our weather changes CONSTANTLY so one minute it may be sunny.. the next rainy- right now rainy. :X

But I really want to wear skirts even when its cold out! >< I know you tend to layer alot in your clothing, do you have any tips? O_O Cause my black leggings seem too short/ or thin and my black like jean like material pants seem too... it looks kind of weird. :X

  3. PrincessBoa: Oh, I don't know. Mandarin seems like a good language to know! There are soooo many people in China and a lot of business is done there so I think it would be beneficial and interesting. I love learning about different cultures too. I'd also love to learn Japanese. I already know Korean and a bit of Spanish, so I'd love to learn something really different and potentially significant in my life.

As for cold-weather skirts, definitely try to find a good pair of long black leggings. I have a normal pair from Target and a bit nicer and sturdier material ones that are Anne Klein petites. You want it to be totally opaque, even when your knees are bent. I am actually wearing them + a skirt today! You should also try opaque tights for a classier look. A neutral outfit with colored tights is cute. For REALLY cold weather, I even layer my leggings.

Chomsiri and izumi: Ahh, you are very welcome :)

  4. Hehe, interesting survey. xD I like your style. I would like to learn Mandarin as well. ^^

Aiy: I wear size 4 womens heels. Tiny feet, and shoes are hard to find!!!

I've been told that I wear size 4 in womens heels but I don't own a pair. I need to get some soon but I have to order online and I'm not sure if I'd fit it. How long in inches for feet would fit a size 4? Sorry for asking so many questions.

Mandarin would be a great language to learn, I totally agree. As for altering & designing clothes, I watch Project Runway in total jealousy-- oh the beautiful clothes!! If only I could sew.

  10. I LOL'ed when I read about you being a Hanson fan (I totally am, as well... my husband laughed when I read that bit out loud)... also quite funny about the shoes and jeans and being late all the time, LOL. I think you're great, Jen, and it's so refreshing to find that there's someone like me out there!

Please keep updating! I love your blog and videos!! My hubby is helping me learn video editing so that I might be able to try doing tutorials as well.
