February 2012 Beauty Favorites!

9:33 PM

Hey guys! March is upon us again and it's time to share my monthly favorites from the past 4 weeks. This month, I found a new favorite lip product and rediscovered a few older items that I used nearly everyday!

Check out the video and product list below...

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:

Aquaphor ointment
Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum
Lioele Blooming Pop Cherry Tint
Wet & Wild Gel Liner
Sigma Mr. Bunny Synthetic Brush Set
Dora Addict Eyelash Glue
OPI Gel Polish in Princess Rule!

ON ME:

Forever 21 sweatshirt
Jami Rodriguez Fortune Cookie earrings via Hautelook invite
J.Crew watch strap (similar/similar)

So I mentioned this in the video a little bit but I am a really huge fan of the gradient lip using lip stains (like the Lioele one I talked about) which I've actually been doing for years (also herehere, here, here). I know it's because of influences from Korea that I think it's a completely ordinary look but I noticed youtube comments being totally put off by it.

What do you guys think? Is it a cute twist on your typical lip color or does it look like you are a vampire that just had a nice snack?

Also, I did want to talk a little more in-depth into my Gel polish'd nails. Here's how my nails are right now after 3 weeks:

You can compare that to when I first got it done here which I posted on Twitter.

Basically, gel polish is like a polish/acrylic hybrid which must be cured with a UV light. The amazing thing is that, as you can see here, the polish lasts and lasts without chipping or peeling for at least 2 weeks. I had mine done at a salon but I've heard of at-home kits that you can buy as well. Additionally, you can apply regular polish on top of gel polish if you get bored with the color with no ill effects since polish remover will only remove the regular polish on top.

I got mine done so that my peeling, thin nails could grow out a bit and I think it's worked splendidly for this. It's a little expensive (mine was around $25-$30) but I recommend it for the occasional nail-lift!

Hope you guys enjoyed reading/watching! Let me know in the comments if there's anything here you've tried as well, or if there are any products you'd like for me to try for the future. :)

  1. I like the idea of the gradient lip but I don't really like it when the outer area is a concealer nude. I can't believe the nail polish is 3 weeks old!! It still looks perfect!

  2. I love gradient lip!!! whenever i feel like i don't wanna wear lipstick, i do use lip stain (I have lioele too but in different color >_<//) but what I also like to do is to get a bright lipstick and use it as a lip stain and it works really gorgeous +A+!! lately i've got Nicki Minaj lipstick from Mac and used it for the gradient and i got so many compliments!! I tend to get a lot of bright lipsticks heehee ~~
I have a question, whenever I wear lipsticks either it's moisturizing or matte and lipglosses, a white line forms
inside part of the lips.. if you know what I mean.. do you know how to prevent it?
    I do moisturize my lips....;_;

    1. Have you tried exfoliating your lips beforehand? It might just be excess skin that is reacting with the lip product.

  3. I think the gradient lip looks really neat. You could either use the nude for a more subtle look or a full color gradient for a bit more pop. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect nude, but when I do find it, I'm totally going to try the gradient look.
The nails look great! I've been debating about doing gel nails - while I prefer doing my own nails, the gel nails may hold up and protect my nails better (my nails are a bit weak at the moment).

  4. I have yet to try the gradient lip - but I think it's a great modern look. I need to pick up a nude lipstick to give it a try :)

    1. I believe they recommend you to go to a salon to soak them off, but I plan on just filing them down and putting polish on top until they grow out. :)

  8. Just bought my first order on prettyandcute from watching your videos. Thank you so much for sharing some great products, especially the gradient lip! I forgot I used to do that too... years ago! Nice to bring it back :) Excited to try Dora Addict Eyelash Glue... the duo glue makes my eyes gooey after a few hours and starts to irritate the eyes. Hope this is better.

  14. i'm so glad you brought up the lip thing. i didn't want to mention it in your last video because i thought it would be rude but i'm really not digging the lip gradient like that at all. it just looks off to me personally when the outer color has no color and then the inner is bright red.

  17. I think the the lip stain / gradient lip color is a really cool concept and can look really good if done right. The matte finish and especially the incorporation of certain nude shades just makes it look like your lips are severely chapped (sorry). Perhaps going for a pinkier nude shade or overall shinier finish would achieve the gradient effect w/o the look of painfully dry lips.

  21. Love the lip stain and would love to try it but can't use any lip products because they arebsuper sensitive to everything. Did you use eyelid tape on your tutorial? If you did what kind did you use? And i will definitely have to get the lioele blush too. It looks so nice .

  23. hmm...not a huge fan of the gradient lip...kinda looks like the majority of lipstick just wore off or something, vs a purposeful look. Maybe if it were glossier?

  24. I like the way you did the gradient lip in this video. Did you go over it with a clear gloss? And Aquaphor...... I LOVE that stuff! I got my boyfriend using it on his dry, cracked hands too!

  30. Your gel polished nails look so nice and pretty! Ive heard that gel polish is a lot better for your nails than acrylics so I was thinking about doing that instead, the next time I want to get them done! :)
