St. Patrick's Day: Green Winged Eyeshadow Tutorial

10:43 PM

Hi guys! St. Patrick's Day is only a week away and the last few years I've been wanting to do a green St. Patty's Day tutorial. I've always said that green and purple are the easiest colors to introduce into your daily eyeshadow routine but somehow the day slipped by in the past. Not this year!

Since I already did a very vibrant look using green in my Turquatic Inspired Look, I decided to do something a little bit different. One of my favorite ways to wear eyeshadow lately has been to do a smudgey winged line so I thought I would translate that into a vibrant kelly green befitting the holiday.

See the video (with a cameo by Cherry, my chihuahua) and more photos below!

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:
Skin79 VIP Gold BB Cream
Tarte Smooth Operator Powder
NARS Stick Concealer in Custard
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Estee Lauder ShadowCreme in Precious Jade
Maybelline Sunbaked Neutrals palette
Sugarpill eyeshadow in Midori
Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
Urban Decay Cannonball mascara
False lashes (I mixed 2 criss-cross types)
Lioele Auto-Eyebrow Pencil
MAC Spaced Out blush (similar Bobbi Brown/NYX/NARS)
Holika Holika Heartful Moisture Lipstick in Sweet Coral

ON ME:
T-shirt is from Forever 21 (similar/similar/similar)
Necklace is Kimora Lee Simmons x Hello Kitty (similar/similar/similar)

You can see here that although there is bold color used, this is a quite wearable look since the green doesn't go up high on the eyelid. I'm a perpetual sucker for winged eyeliner as well. After seeing Academy Awards red carpet pics, I'm convinced that winged eyeliner is a trend that is sticking around for a while.

With eyes closed you can see the strips of colors lightly blended from black to green to the golden-olive shimmer. Also, the wing of the shadow is a visual mirror image to the shape of my eyebrows. The juicy peach lips and cheeks balances the warmer tones of the golden lid.

One warning I will say though is to make sure you exfoliate your lips well before trying out milky orange shades! This lipstick (and other milky lipsticks I've tried in general) really brings out any dry flakes, wrinkles, and imperfections. Still, the final look is definitely worth it! I'm all about peach lips for Spring!

And one last winky photo for silly times. :)

Remember that you can translate this into any other bright shade you would like. I could see it being especially pretty in purple or turquoise, while navy blue would be a sexy twist for going out. If you try it out, please let me know or share it on the From Head To Toe Facebook page. :)

Let me know what other looks you'd like to see in the comments. Happy weekend!

    1. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to ombre it again or go back to traditional highlights. Maybe I should make a Facebook poll or something? :p

  19. Hi Jen, the look looks absolutely awesome! And I love your hair. Just wondering if you had your hair permanently permed at a hair saloon or if you curled it yourself? It looks great!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I curled it! Usually if I just let it air dry, it turns into very loose waves but these tighter waves are with my Remington Air Wave dryer... It's now called the 3-in-1. I have a post on it here: http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.frmheadtotoe.com/2010/07/natural-beachy-olsen-waves-remington.html&sa=U&ei=JU5cT86MFNSftwf-j-2FDA&ved=0CAQQFjAA&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNGHe3TpveNpZrYWUP1z43GgAn-WGw

  37. Hey Jen,

I was wondering if you have ever tried e.l.f. makeup or brushes. I've heard good things but the prices seem too good to be true. I've seen them at Target and they have a better selection online. Just wondering... And Cherry is so cute!

    1. Honestly, I haven't tried a ton of their stuff but the brushes that I tried I wasn't impressed with... I'm not a brush snob by any means but maybe I got a dud scratchy brush! If you want to go drugstore I recommend Sonia Kashuk instead. As for makeup, I haven't tried it so I can't say either way but I've heard some good things too. :)

    2. i've tried elf's high definition powder which resembles MUFE HD powder and Tarte's smooth operater.
I think all of them perform the same. why pay more just go with elf's powder :D

      Delete
    3. Stella, I've heard Elf's HD powder is great but you do get a tiny amount for such a small container. My MUFE HD dupe is 100% silica powder from TKB Trading. It comes in a baggy which you can depot into a loose powder container. I think MUFE HD is overpriced for sure so if you want to refill your ELF, get the loose powder from TKB!

  48. Hi there, I'm glad I came across your blog. Your makeup tips are so helpful! I'm confused about one thing...pigmented lips. I'd consider yours to be neutral, not too pink or red. I think my natural lip colour is neutral. Some lipsticks show up true to colour on me except for some nudes, peaches and pale pink. For example I tried Nars Barberella (warm peach pink) and loved the colour in the tube but once on I looked weird. Almost washed me out. I'm NC25-30 in Mac and light in Stila.

Anyways I digress...are your lips pigmented pink, red or neutral?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I consider myself to have pigmented lips, although to do change colors sometimes. Having neutral lips doesn't necessarily mean lipsticks show true-to-color (that usually depends on the amount of the pigment in the lipstick itself) but any lipstick will be affected by your own coloring.

Since my lips are pigmented, some medium pinks look milky or nude on me while milky pink lipsticks just look awful! Since my skin color runs warm/yellow undertone, I can pull off peaches and oranges better than those with a pink undertone since the colors don't clash.

  53. Hi Jen, The peachy lipstick looks so yummy on you! Seeing the product on you revived my love of peachy lips and blush that I pointed out to my aunt from an ad in the metro while I was in HK. My aunt supplied me with my first makeup items that I still have years later and was overjoyed to teach me anything about choosing and applying makeup that would flatter me. My collection hasn't grown much since then because I only wear makeup for dance, but I was wondering whether I could pull off a color similar to Holika Holika's Sweet Coral. I think my aunt told me that I might not be fair enough to pull off peach, so she bought me a bright pink blush. For reference, my natural lip color is very close to DHC Lip Creation C-PK01. Are any of the Revlon Lip Butters close to the Sweet Coral? Your review made me very curious about them. Thanks!
