Natural Beach Copper Coral Monolid Makeup Tutorial

4:48 PM

Hello everyone! I had a looot of requests to do a summer makeup look that will especially work for hot and humid weather so I recorded this while I was at the lake on vacation. The key points to this look are sunscreen, cream + powder blush combo, and waterproof or water-resistent eye makeup. I also used items that would be easy to pack up and travel with. ^.^

This one is a look for monolidders (or those with single eyelids, AKA lids with no visible crease) since I didn't want to use any tape, glue, or lashes when I knew I'd be getting into water. It's a really natural look so the shadow would be appropriate for wearing everyday.

****Oh, before I get to the video I also wanted to note that the From Head To Toe shop is now officially open! I'm selling Wonder Eyelid Tape [click here for previous post + application video] so if you were interested in it please feel free to check it out.****

Products used:

Lancome Photogenic Concealer in Camee *discontinued product, sorry guys :(
NYX Cream Blush in Rose Petal
NYX Mosaic Powder in Dare
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Revlon Colorstay Quad in Copper Spice
DollyWink Liquid Liner
Shiseido Eyelash Curler
Lioele Up & Down Waterproof Mascara
Strawberry Rosebud Lipbalm
Shu Uemura Tsumori Chisato Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in Jupiter Brown
Smashbox Lipgloss in Cactus Flower

If you'll notice, I used the Revlon Colorstay eyeshadow quad which I absolutely love and have used in the past here, here, and here. Actually, if you click "neutral looks" under the labels on the bar at the right, I use it in about half. It was one of my first staple eyeshadows that I wore everyday and I still use it occasionally when I don't want to think too hard about what shadow combos to wear. It's very flattering on Asian skintones and I'm still looking for a high-end dupe to the copper shade! I know, silly right? I'm looking for a high-end dupe to a drugstore product. What's wrong with me?! ;D

But anyway, it's a pretty simple look and I did indeed wear it out to play in the lake that day. ^.^

Just a couple pics of the final look:

And I know it looks the same, but OMG look how tan I look with flash. I wore so much sunscreen and I got so tan already. O.O

Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed this look. I know it's really very basic but I think those suffering in the sweltering weather lately like me will maybe appreciate it. On that note, I have a question that I'll pose for the comments: What is your best makeup tip for hot, sweaty, humid weather?

My answer:

Eucerin Everyday Protection face lotion with spf 30. It's oil-free, non-greasy, and doesn't break me out. I've been wearing it every single morning! It's my perfect summer day moisturizer.

Ok now your turn to share your tips.......GO!

  2. I like this look a lot - very natural. And you do look quite tan with the flash. I use the eucerin face lotion as well (I also have about 5 other moisturizing products from them) and I really like it.

  4. I really like the shiseido spf 55 face sunscreen because I have oily skin and it keeps shine away for a whole day, but good to know about the eucerin face lotion in the winter time when my skin is a little drier. I also like your more natural looks... seems more do-able for a make-up newbie like me :)

  6. very nice look for hot, sweltering days! :) i like kanebo sunscreens because they offer high spf plus the sunscreens are lightweight and have no sunscreen smell to them. :)

    cute brushes! :)

  7. I love it :) it looks extremely nautral and light, although I don't think any makeup can hold up to sea water or pool water for long, it won't make you look disgusting since it isn't thick black mascara/eyeliner :p

  8. You look great and all happy in this vid! like PetiteXXS, I also use Shiseido SPF 50 because it isn't oily and feels really light on my skin, but it does have a scent to it... which is not like shiseiso's typical fragrance :P I'm wondering, did your eyeliner smudge once you were in the water? I'm always scared to wear eyeliner when I go to the beach because even if it is waterproof, I feel like it will smudge and make my look horrible x)

  14. my HG product for keeping me protected under the sun WITHOUT being greasy and with makeup running down my face is Mentholatum ACNES Acnes Medicated UV Tinted Milk SPF 50 PA++. I got it from Sasa.com and it has really blown me away. It's a very lightly tinted/runny milkish substance with high spf and it doesn't break me out! It's supposedly medicated and made especially for acne prone skin (which is what piqued my interest in the first place). These types of spf tints/milk products are popular in Asia and I really can't find anything comparable to the texture and what this product is capable of delivering here in the US. I rarely plug consumer products but this is a must have. It's also great as a makeup base...it's runny and very light, yet it's also a bix waxy/tacky, so everything just holds and stays put. and it's SO non-greasy. it really keeps the grease away <-and I am such a grease ball! Especially in humid, hot, sticky weather.

Here's the link with more info: http://www.sasa.com/SasaWeb/eng/product/viewProductDetail.jspa?itemno=102485904001

    Hope that helps!

  15. Jen i love how your trying to not misspell your blog and twitter at the end of the video ^.^ I like the natural look on you. I am using the Aveno spf 30..it's not bad.

  16. I really prefer non-eyelid tape, false-eyelash-free looks. I feel like it's more appreciative of the natural Asian face.

In any case, I must get my hands on that Eucerin lotion now. Also my tip: I mix tinted moisturizer with foundation and set with a loose powder. Then I finish with Jurlique Citrus spray. It creates a natural, flawless finish plus it keeps oil at bay (which is a problem during the summer months for me).

  17. Love love love this tutorial. I'm actually getting ready to use it in a couple hours (: Would you be able to recommend a concealer that's as good as the discontinued Lancome one you used?

  18. love this tutorial. you know, i've looked for revlon in copper spice and that thing is always sold out! I guess everyone else really likes it too. I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock in spf 70+. I really like it, and for such a high spf, it's doesn't leave you looking like a geisha either. Not oily either.

  19. once again, i luv this tutorial :) thanks!

i just wanted to ask.. what alternatives are there for the lancome concealer in came?

    ReplyDelete
  20. bethyb00sh and Adrianna: I haven't found a good dupe for the consistency of the Lancome one, but as far as concealers in general go, I do like MAC select cover-up concealer. It's really great for undereyes especially and is a really intense liquid concealer.

  31. great blog, jen! I was just wondering about the solotica contact lenses you posted about a while back, do you think natural colors or hidrocors or hidrocharmes are more realistic on dark brown eyes?

I have the cors, but they make my eyes look more of a blue color. thanks!
