Deer Makeup Tutorial | Halloween 2013

Hey guys! Today I have another Halloween tutorial to share with you. I wanted to do a look this year that could be created versus store-bought since a lot of us think of costumes at the last minute and don't want to be the same thing as everyone else. You guys know I love doing cute and realistic versions of animal makeup so I thought it would be super fun to make-up like Bambi put my "buck" on a deer tutorial. (Oh lawdy, the puns!)

In case you are looking for a DIY costume, here is my interpretation of deer makeup. Check out the video & more pics below.

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation in 06 Natural Beige
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
Dior Bronzer in Spicy Tan (discontinued) current version
Sugarpill eyeshadow in Tako
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack
NYX Slide-On Pencil in Pure White
Shiseido Eyelash Curler
Maybelline The Falsies Black Drama Waterproof Mascara
Paperself antler false eyelashes
Benefit Hydra-Smooth Lip Color in Air Kiss
Anastasia Brow Duo in Dark Brown

ON ME:

DIY Antler headband
Nails - Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers (Mani Monday)

This is the reference photo I used:

Bambi, can I please have your long lashes?

And here is my final look. As you can see, a lot of the contouring and basic shapes were inspired by the actual creature. Pretty easy to make this one a "cute" look when the original animal is so adorable to begin with. :)

This headband was a DIY project I came up with by combining a decorative garland with a headband using suede ribbon. I then used felt to create the ears. I braided a few strands of hair as well and used it to create a faux headband which seemed appropriately natural-boho for the earthy costume.

Time to party and have fawn!

Hope you enjoyed this animal-inspired tutorial. Let me know if you try out this makeup for Halloween and link me any photos you take to my Twitter or Facebook pages. I absolutely love seeing when others test out my tutorials in real life!

In case anyone is planning on being a vampire this year, I'm squeezing in one last tutorial before Halloween. Check back in the next couple of days to see it. :)

Readers, have you ever been an animal for Halloween? If so, what animal? What do you plan on going as for Halloween this year? Let me know in the comments!

    1. Maybe I'll do a DIY tutorial on the headband sometime? I used suede lacing and wrapped the garland around the headband, then tied it off and hot glued it down to make sure it was secure. I tried fabric glue as well, but hot glue is just so much quicker and easier to work with in my opinion!
