August Favorite Products

It's that time of the month again (I saved period jokes for the bloopers in the video) and to be honest, this month has been particularly burdensome on my skin with the heat and hormonal acne. For those of you who have frequent breakouts around the chin and jawline, it usually stems from hormones which can definitely peek its ugly head around when Aunt Flo visits.

One of the go-to products that I've been using to combat this is Clinique's Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel which is a slightly-minty clear gel which I've been putting on my face after my nightly skincare routine. It's a gentler Salicylic Acid acne medication compared to Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and since it's clear instead of chalky pink, you can use it during the daytime under your makeup as well as at night. It's helped a few of my bumps to heal quicker than without anything.

As you can see, I've also been really into my lipsticks this month and I think the reason is that Fall is right around the corner. Have you seen all the beautiful swatches of the Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks? Ugh. I can't wait to bust out Shame, Anarchy, and F-Bomb!

Also this Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick Kiss of Life lipstick is literally to die for. I wore it in my New Media Rockstars interview and I can vouch that it has a beautiful satin finish that doesn't feel over-drying. The smell is like watermelon jolly ranchers which I love! Highly recommend this and I'll probably go back and pick up more from the line.

Readers, what is your favorite beauty product this month? Is there a shade of lipstick you are dying to wear for Fall? Let me know in the comments!

  5. I've been dying to pull off a retro-vintage inspired look as we move from Winter to Spring here. So, I've been hunting for matte red lipsticks everywhere. I started with Cherry Bomb supermoist lipstick by Yardley, which is great, but more of a geisha red, then retro red. Moved on to Amway's 24k Ruby in Gold, which is hydrating with gold flecks. Ruby in Gold is a beautiful red, but the gold flecks make it harder to do a true vintage bomb shell look.

I have kinda been hoping you'd do a review of Kate Moss' red lipstick range, since there are a few of them, and I didn't know which one would be a good choice. My hopes have been realised!! Stunning red, and now I'm kinda tempted to get my own.

I recently got The Body Shop's colourburst (the new one, silver bottom, pink-red lid) red, in shade 101. And I am in LOVE with it. It's hydrating like a lip butter, the pigmentation is pretty good for a hydrating lipstick, and the colour is just a beautiful in your face, I am retro hear me roar, sort of red.

  11. Hello, I am Yun, Hyeon-Jeong from Korea. (Not North!!) I have a blog named ‘Korac’ It’s mainly about Nail Art & Polish. (You can visit it! http://blog.naver.com/korac) There are a lot of Korean fans of you, and I really looooove your posts as well. Unfortunately, there may be some people who don’t know about your blog yet or are not good at English. So! I want to to translate your posts to Korean and introduce your blog and posts to nail-art-loving Koreans. If you want, I can show you a sample. Will it be okay?

I heard you talking about milia in it and I wonder how (if you got any) did you get rid of them ? :) (Some under eye from Chanel made me have a ton of it)

  13. Hi Jen! I love using Elta MD Skincare sunscreen. It's the UV Clear Broad-Spectrum sunscreen with SPF 46 and is great for acne prone skin types. And as a fair skinned redhead sunscreen is a must!

  14. Hi Jen! My HG Sunscreen is Laneige Sensitive UV Protector SPF31 PA++ It's absolutely great for sensitive and acne prone skin (: It doesn't have a greasy feel and it is a cream type sunscreen. I personally don't like liquid sunscreens cause they wear off much faster.

It comes in a mint green tube. It looks like this http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4133/5017183426_baa724ebfa.jpg

  16. Hi Jen, Love your blog!!!!! It's one of two makeup blogs I read. Your reviews and tutorials are so hopeful! I plan on trying the Michael Todd products as I have very oily acne prone skin! I have a question. You said you are very acne prone so I has wondering what your morning and evening face cleansing routine is and what products you cleanse your face with?

    1. I'll try to do an updated skincare routine soon! I went through a recent bout of breakouts so I'll wait until my skin settles. Right now it's just very basic and uninteresting!

  17. my favorite sunscreen is the live live & organic natural sunscreen with msm in the orange scent. i order it from iherb.com it's spf 30 with physical instead of chemical blockers which clogs the pores less (counter intuitive, i know!) all the ingredients are organic and the orange smell is very pleasant. i also have really sensitive & acne prone skin and it's given me no problems. everyone i've introduced it to has loved it. the whiteish cast you get is very minimal, it sinks into the skin quickly (it wears well under makeup) and feels weightless (unlike a lot of sunscreens that feel like a coat sitting on top of your skin) but strong enough to handle 2-3hr hikes.

your blog and videos have made a huge difference in my life. i've gotten many compliments from friends saying how much better my skills have gotten and how the looks have increased in sophistication so i wanted to say thank you!

i was also wondering which of your MLBB lipsticks do you find to be most hydrating between the benefit and too faced? or another brand all together?

    1. Benefit is definitely the most balm-like and hydrating while Too Faced is more creamy and opaque. They are both amazing but it just depends on if I want a glossy (Benefit) or lipsticky (Too Faced) look!

  18. Hi Jen (‐^▽^‐)!
I love your videos + blog so much! You look so pretty in your videos and they are always so helpful! I'm definitely going to try some of these products : ) Also I have one double eyelid and one single eyelid, so I've been trying to use the Wonder Eyelid Tape, which I saw that you've used before, and I was wondering if you experienced any negative effects from it? I just want to be careful, since the eyelid skin is so fragile! Thanks Jen!!

    1. Hi Emily! I did use tapes a couple years ago but I stopped when my eyelid skin began to stretch. Like you, I got very nervous about it because I didn't want premature wrinkling. Now when I want double lids or the look of more even lids (sometimes mono sometimes not) I just use false lashes since it's not as aggressive as using tape and is much more comfortable to wear. I'm not necessarily discouraging using tape, just use it here and there and with some awareness of potential lid stretching. ;)

  19. Thanks for your thorough review. I've had milia around my eyes for several years, but recently I noticed that they're getting bigger. My dermatologist recommended a laser treatment that would cost $100 per dot, but I can't afford to spend $800-$900. Do you have any recommendations for reducing or removing milia?

  20. I can always count on your blogs to pick me up. I appreciate your honest, down to earth comments, and insightful thoughts. Of course, I find your makeup advice and reviews helpful. I'm sure you have a lot going on in your personal life, but you always protray yourself so professionally yet still so personable. You are so mature beyond your age!
In other thoughts, I started using Coola Classic cucumber facial sunscreen. It has a lot of natural ingredients that do not make me oily or make my makeup flake. Plus, it smells amazing and goes on clear.

  23. Aaah! I love the nail polish! Sadly, I don't really have nails, so... I do sometimes use nail polish to paint other things, though. ^_^

I really liked the Kate colours! I found the PERFECT nude shade! My only complaint is the uneven wear, and how quickly it comes off. But... but... the PERFECT shade! If I wear it over foundation as a base, it's fine, though.

I have so many reds now... have you tried Rimmel's Rouge? It's the red shade in the purple/silver bullet, another perfect true red.
